My good doctor I don't agree, why on earth did we have a world cup break? I am sure Enyimba were not going to miss Ezenwa that much that a whole league should be shutdown. Now they are telling us that the league has ended because bla bla bla and all of it amounts to utter stewpidity and incompetence. We have till October 15 then why not shorten the amounts of games you need to play instead of embarrassing us like this? There are people like myself who actually spend their time and money to support these clubs and this is a slap on all our faces. If this judgment stands I will find it hard to take Nigerian football serious again but I am sure it wont with one Ifeanyi Ubah FC part of the relegated sides.

I agree with you. The world cup break was unnecessary. Other leagues didn't stop so why did we? For a player who was unlikely to feature anyway?
I'm not defending them just trying to understand. If they had planned better from the start we wouldn't be in this situation but they didn't. However I think they've made the best decision they could have made under the circumstances (Giwa, Dalung, etc). If they played a few more games it still wouldn't be up to 38 before the deadline. I think that's the reason for this decision. I hope they remain open to suggestions because fans will likely not favor this. It makes them look unserious I agree and it's discouraging for those who follow the league.
I hope they make the best of it. We might as well resume a new league in a few weeks since we've been three months out. There's talk about 24 teams next season playing in two different divisions like the NNL so I don't think anyone will be relegated.
I have also read that there was a vote and the margin was 16-4 in favor of ending the league right now.

See Basco I don't think you are a follower of the league like I used to.

Do you know I used to embark on over an hour interstate journey from Akwa-Ibom to Aba to be with Enyimba each time they were playing at home?

Such was my passion. I even became a volunteer among the back room staff, and was later placed on stipends. I attended trainings. That was how close I was to Enyimba and the NPFL.That was the era of Coach Ikhana and Okey Emordi. That was the glory years of the indomitable Enyimba with Enyeama and Ayenugba as our top men in between the sticks, players like Romanus Ojinta, Muri Ogunbiyi, Ndidi Anumunu, Onyekachi Okonkwo, Obinna Nwaneri, Emeka Nwanna, Okemiri Ogbonna, Joetex Frimpong, Michael Ochei, just to name some.

Also that period Julius Berger was also doing very well. Dolphins also stepped up to challenge Enyimba's dominance. Rangers and Iwuanyawu were also ever present as potential spoilers.

Sunday 4pm was "all roads lead to the Aba Township stadium". All jam packed especially for those continental matches.

But all those fun fair is gone!

Even my Enyimba went on a downward spiral. Gradually my interest faded away, also because I am into something else entirely now.

Even if I watch any NPFL game now it can only be the one involving Enyimba. I would rather my TV be on cartoon Network than to Watch a game like Wikki Tourist vs Go round FC.

CAF have recently taken away two continental tickets from us and giving them to Mozambique! Mozambique!! of all countries!

The NPFL has been on a downward spiral but I think this is the trough of it all.

I finally give up on them.

I'm I the only one that think travel arrangements caused 50% of this joke.

Imagine if it was fluid from that world cup break nonsense till now, at least they would have been playing 4 games in 10-12days. Gosh!!

When people are saying all angles must be effectively dealt with, these old cargoes don't always reason. They reason with their tummies called experience in a wacky era and expect that such experience would birth excellence. SMH.

Well it wouldn't be the first time in history that a league will be shortened but it is not great to hear this type of stuff.
Well if nobody gets relegated their is not much to complain about apart from the champion. I agree that the new season should start and the regional thing is not a bad idea because it will lessen the traveling load on the clubs.

The NPFL right now is the best that Nigeria has ever seen boss. How can u call a league that 10 goals get you a golden boot something to write home about. The league is more competitive than ever and we were actually getting things together until this issue.

When have Nigerian clubs ever had a sustained dominance on the continent? How many matches like Heartland Vs Pillars have we had in our history? Can u compare that to Zamalek and Al Ahly or even TP Mazembe and AS Vita? These clubs are parading National team players but we can barely keep a lad for 1 month so he can play CHAN. Then our clubs are ran by some people who only want to put money in pocket, Mozambique have players from so many countries in their league but we barely go past Ghana and Benin Republic in search of players.

Say whaaaat? Heartland that just got promoted is now Liverpool?

It would be more like Aston Villa returning to the EPL and getting relegated.

why not get the top 6 teams to slug it out in a neutral venue.. using the same format as the Belgian Jupiler League after their regular season, where they all start with the points they have amassed so far? It would take them only about a couple weeks to bring it to a conclusion.

DrLikita12:

I think you should blame Giwa. The NPFL needs to submit the names of the teams participating in CAF competitions by October 15th. Even playing two matches a week there's no way they can meet up. I would have suggested they play a few more games, but it still would not add up to 38.
They also had a meeting with all the teams so I think majority of them must have agreed with this decision.
Someone here essentially called Giwa a hero, look what the hero has done.
Going forward they might as well finish the Aieto Cup and start a new season in a few weeks. At least our calendar will be better aligned to most of Europe.

we are not serious as a people. i've been saying it.

Icon4s:

Now the issue still is why would they always start the league late all the time. Serious leagues all over the world end before the Summer break.

OK watch out and see, rather than to start a new season in earnest they will remain inactive till February next year.

And what happens to the NNL? Are they also going to end abruptly so that they can immediately promote the top 4 teams in case the NPFL would want to start a new season immediately? Cos the new NPFL season cannot start without the newly promoted teams from the NNL.

I really feel sorry for those 4 teams that will be relegated. They probably thought they had 14 games to fight for and remain in contention.

This is a record breaking mess. Unheard of anywhere in the world.

And as for that man called Giwa and his scout master Dalung. May the God of Nigerian soccer judge them both.

Initially I rate Amaju led NFF highly but with closer look they are bunch of jokers.

Apart from our WC participation, this present NFF has failed woefully regards football development.

I don't know what was discussed but I doubt the other 14 teams would have agreed to that- especially the bottom four. Like I said earlier I am not defending them. The world cup break was unnecessary but even with that the league was scheduled to end in September. Giwa and his selfishness just worsened the situation because the calender was already tight. They had a meeting and team owners voted. I don't know the details. I only read that 16 teams were in favor of ending the league now.
