I watched a video where they said the US Delta force has 280 Black hawk helicopters for their operations which is an average of 9 soldiers to one helicopter.... When will we get to that level? 3 Likes |

The question is "How many countries are capable of that?". When people talk about US military they always forget something important. The US economy. When you have a GDP of 18trillion, spending about 700billion on military is easy. When the said military contribute about 2trillion to your economy yearly, well it's easy and f$cking convenient. Look at it this way US manufacturing sector contributes 2.2trillion dollars to its GDP but about 90% of it goes to military related equipments (which is why US still imports machineries and electronics from Japan and China despite its advancement in technology) and only about 40-50billion worth are exported yearly, the rest goes to the US military which is paid for from the said billions. It is a perfect cycle (dod spend hundreds of billions, military complex pumps out trillions) albeit a risky one because the moment DOD stops spending, manufacturing sector goes down which in turn affects the rest of the economy. So yes US can afford it but what of the other countries, not UK or France or even Russia can do that despite all of them having trillion dollar economy and military complex worth billions. China maybe. Remind me again how much Nigerian military contributes to our economy last year? 2 Likes |

ugo4u: The aircraft with the Air Force alone is close to 150 or even more. We've not even talked of navy, police, army and Other paramilitary forces. (I hope you realise the word "aircraft" include several flying ✈ objects and not helicopter alone). Some crazy assumption reduces respect people have for you. 2 Likes |

iblawi:Oga read my post again this time around slowly, i believe you are intelligent enough to spot sarcasm when you read/see one, and also get the drift when such statement is made I even said it was a joke oo because of comments like this. In reality no country in the world can afford the spending on military wares as US does, not even China and Russia combined, or any country in Europe, the economy of California alone is bigger than that of the U.K. |

iblawi:Apologies boss for the late response. We came under attack again as I was responding yesterday and I have boys manning positions. The attacks has been consecutive and we're adapting really fast. There is a heavy casualty right now on multinational troops and we could hear the heavy gunshots from our position showing bokoharam came in with heavy equipments. Still no idea on what's happening there but a friend sent me a message saying they have enough casualty. They tried defending the base but they had little fire power to counter Bokoharam's attack. We've been on high alert here. Our DJI drone has been taking surveillance for us so we have control of our environment for now. 5 Likes |

allexpensive:Sir, dont you think the situation could be better managed when ISR guys position their aircraft on the "skinnies" say around 20,000ft whenever there is an attack and and carefully study their modus operanda and possibly allow them retreat to their base in other to gather intels and strafing their stash. I believe these guys are operating from a secret camp that is equipped with heavy weapons. Being proactive will do us alot of good, as for me the NAF should take a lead role in this whole counter insurgency operations and the Army should invest more in the aviation unit, the era of moving troops enmass(which can result in ambushes and casualties) is gone, I think we should apply the US tactics on the Talibans and Alqeada: Monitor(INTELS), Locate and Straff that way casualties is greatly reduced, even the logitics of moving troops and equipment will be reduced to the barest minimum. I visited army REF hospital(44) last week, the thing my eyes saw is very cruel and gruesome, we are loosing lots of able bodied youngmen to the hands of this ragtags terrorists, some of the amputee soldiers I met haven't even spent up to 1year in service and sadly the media is not reporting this. |

krattoss:That's left for the top tier to decide on. The weather is bad and offensive is the solution. We need to bring our tanks, and artillery forward for an offensive mission to slow down bokoharam's movement to our position. I am also a good advocate of mortars. |

https://www.nairaland.com/4709313/boko-haram-kill-30-nigerian So this is true then, ( judging by Allexpensive's comments) I don't get it. I just about get Bokoharam achieving some success by ambushing military convoys and patrols but not thire successes against military bases at least not after all this time with all our experiences of similar events over the past decade. What exactly is Nigeria playing at? 2 Likes |

Why is it that Bokoharam can attack bases, kill many of our men and not pay a heavy price in the form of the majority of thire fighters dead? ...I don't want to seem bloodthirsty but I find it had to take news such as Nigeria military killed three or four Bokoharam fighters, why aren't we decimating the bastards? Excuse my language. |

people keep talking about Mole in the Army and it is beginning to irritate, as you experts on military matters here may understand, given that I am just a civiy looking on in the hope of reading news of Nigeria army receiving kickass equipment. What does Mole have to do with Bokoharam attacking our bases and murdering our men in such numbers or achieving such emphatic successes? What does Mole sell Bokoharam, do they say something like, ' at 3. O'clock Tuesday, Nigeria army in thire bases will be napping or scratching thire balls, so attack then'. If such is the case then why don't military brasses insist on soldiers being alert all the time?' or do Moles say, ' next week, Nigeria soliders will be going on patrols without bullets in thire guns' I apologise to everyone, i'm just so frustrated about all the negative news and yes I know America suffered setbacks in Iraq. It's just that American failures no longer helps to realign perspectives.... 3 Likes |

Mole is something common. I'm not here to die so I take precautions. I have men under my command and wherever we are even if the area is not under my jurisdiction or control, we maintain surveillance and take position. We scan the area with our drones to guarantee what's happening around us therefore giving us time to contact c2 for air support and if the air support isn't coming any time soon, we will analyze the situation by bokoharam fire power. Can we turn it around ? Bokoharam has a strategy, child and foot soldiers advance towards military position to destabilize us while their gun trucks fire for behind. With no mortar and limited RPG, we can't hit the gun and artillery trucks easily as we are busy with foot soldiers advancing with full speed, shooting sporadically and not minding if they die. Their strategy has been effective so we need mortars and IFVs. |

giles14: It will be well. Mobility is an issue now, should be advancing into that area soon but we're waiting for reinforcement from a naval unit and some elements of 707 SF brigade. ATF has been conducting multiple ISR on bokoharam within the area. There seems to be an influx of several bokoharam in that area. They came in through our bad borders and will possible conduct new attacks very soon so I guess an offensive mission to support existing troops will be conducted. |

allexpensive:very true sir, BHT keep employing guerrilla and non guerrilla tactics in this warfare, those politicians and rednecks in higher hierarchy knows what is needed to effectively flush these scumbags out but because of personal gains and others, dogmatic approach is used. with more IFVs and mortars, handicapping their artillery trucks would be very easy before back up and air support comes as the ground troops engage them. insincerity has been the bane of this war 2 Likes |
