The concept of building BUSINESS PARKS used in many American cities should be adopted in Nigeria.
Ex-Gov. Peter Obi half-heartedly started this important concept in Onitsha, but ended up not building truly imposing buildings in the areas and everything ended up being shoddy. They should learn to engage billionaire entrepreneurs to adopt building a structure in there NOT government alone. Business parks areas around the city designated for building commercial office buildings.

The government and business entrepreneurs are encouraged to build 3 storey office like buildings in the area within 2 -3 years.
Flowers and trees are planted in the area to make them truly modern and conducive for businesses to rent office rooms in the area.

Something like how Ebonyi state built a new areas for it's secretarial complex. The only difference here is that effort is made to make the buildings spectacular and stand out.

If 5 or 6 imposing buildings of just 3 storey height are built in each business park, it will change the landscape of any city where they are located.

I can only say that i personally know these business parks with these buildings in Atlanta Georgia. They are owned by a private developer called Lenox. I wish our people will adopt these good things.

They are easily achievable if ONLY we learn to plan our cities and map them out appropriately. Especially restricting to a minimum of 3 -storey buildings for every structure there.

Sadly, nobody ever thinks of mapping out areas of the city for specialized buildings such as Business parks.

In the video below, they seem serious about building modern structures of similar quality, but you know our people just like to talk sometimes. It's left to be seen if they are serious.

This is the problem i have with our governors in the south east when it comes to building or authorising the building of public buildings! It's either they're being economical with funds, and end up erecting nondescript, boring structures; or they're just not classy, refined, exposed or well-travelled to know any better!

You mentioned the new secretariat area in Abakaliki; a nice concept but ruined by the ugly and 70s-looking three story buildings erected by Elechi? Also, check out the ugly public buildings put up by Peter Obi; the library and state secretariat in particular are two of the ugliest buildings built in the entire south east in living memory!

Funny thing is if you go to the private and country homes of most of these public officials, you'll marvel at the no-expenses-spared and exquisite palatial mansions they put up for themselves, so it's not like they can't build something appealing if they set their mind to it.

The only one that tried small is ex-governor Chime with the state secretariat in Enugu. Also, Dave Umahi seems to have good taste and is doing well so far with the public structures he's putting up in Ebonyi!

Its possible to get at least 20 highrise buildings (15 stories and above ), we only need to locate the busiest, most industrial and commercial state in the east to start the project, and Anambra seems to be the best location, Onitsha to be precised. All the government needs to do is to create available land of not less than 5 sqkm in any community in Onitsha metro, ensure the cost of land per plot is cheap, ensure that land buyers do not build any structure below 15 storeys, government itself should build at least 2 highrise residential buildings to draw in investors. This is what is happening in Banana island. There are places in Banana island where land buyers are not allowed to build any structure below 12 storeys. It usually takes time to fill up the land but, as long as the land is in a commercial area and cost per plot is cheap or moderate, there is hope. Companies can locate their headquarters in this new area, some can come together to erect a single structure office towers or residential towers or hotels and casinos or all of them combined in the same tower just like the towers in Dubai.
Our government should also start making plans to turn our major innovation cities ( Nnewi and Aba ) into our own Silicon valleys were people develop new innovative products that cut across technology, fashion, agriculture etc. Nnewi has Chicason, Innoson, Ngobros, Ibeto etc while Aba has its creative youths that fabricate palm kernel processing machines, soap making machines, water dredgers and other metal products so I feel we should have turned these two innovative cities into our own silicon valleys, thank God for the rapid and increasing growth of ICT and coding literacy in Igboland.

If I were to add anything, i'd suggest that open square space should have been done into a nice park with trees, well-trimmed lawns, winding walkways and a nice fountain in the middle. Somewhere the civil servants can go and relax during lunch break.

Yeah, i was impressed with what i saw of the judicial complex Rochas admin' is building in Owerri! That massive one i think they'll name after Justice Oputa.

The green potentials of this city beats me hands down! Just have a look at that first picture especially the premises of the Conference Centre and parts of Okpara square shown. Just further touches here and there and we have ourselves the prime ecofriendly city in Nigeria. Please keep the drone pictures coming. This also shows the seeds of our greatness are within and around us.

I recall somewhere,either on this thread or the Enugu thread where spyder showed an ICT University or institute being built in Enugu. Oga spyder please help out here. I recall you showing something like that. Any recent update of that institute? Such an institute when completed will certainly draw massive influx of personnel exchange and resources from foreign agencies. There's already full coverage of fibre optic network cable in the whole of Enugu and much of Anambra. I recall they were laid and completed by a certain Korean firm during the time of Chimaroke. Again,i maintain,the seeds of our greatness lie within and with us.

I remember saying a few weeks back that our high-networth sons and daughters need to look for little projects like this to sponsor. The project can be named after them on completion.

Enugu didn't have a headstart that other cities could not achieve. The problem with SE is poor visionary leaders over a long time.

Enugu is a clear indicator of how quality and visionary leadership evaporated from the Southeast.

Enugu was planned even when the funds to build the new city were not available. Yet, they mapped out areas for the city. Today, the average Igbo governor cannot even have a master plan they will follow for a village talkmore a state.

If we had leaders today who mapped out territories of how the master plan of the city / state should be and they maintained it, even when they didn't immediately have the money to build the master plan, we will get there. Unfortunately, we do not have such people who plan for an organized future. How increasingly planless SE cities have become is a testimony to how plan-lessness our SE leaders have become.

I will give some credit to Dave Umahi, Sullivan Chime and Obiano to some degree for taking steps to pull down illegal structures distorting the master plan of their cities. Such practice MUST continue until our people learn the virtue of building in an organized way to stop the rise of slums in our inner cities.

Even in Enugu today, the planlessness of the present generation of leaders can be increasingly noticed.For instance, Goshen estates blocked a key access road into Independence layout phase 2 with their estate gate and forced everybody to drive around their gates to continue beyond Goshen estate to access buildings further in Phase 2 Independence layout. Yet, nobody has said anything about that gate. If you compare the rate of planlessness in Independence layout Phase II that later day Igbo leaders are supervising to the clearly well planned layout of Independence layout Phase I planned in the 1960s, you will understand this drift in visionary leaders.
