arinzeejikonye:These estates look cool and moderately spaced out. I also hope there are dedicated green areas and parks. @Oremi. Do you have a snapshot of the Goshen Estate and the faulty design you spoke about? I spent sometime at Goshen Estate last Xmas and i didn't take any particular note of any defect in the layout. I may be wrong. Please enlighten us more. |

Honestly after looking at these beautiful pictures, I have understood how extremely important City planning is. This used to be a Lower ranked issue for me but it’s now one of the top issues we should bring to the attention of our governors. No matter how beautiful the houses are, if the city is not well planned, it ends up diminishing the beauty. 7 Likes 1 Share |

Despite the fact that at intermittent instances, Owelle falls hands like wrist break when it comes to longevity of structural integrity of some projects, however he is still futuristic with the imo centenary towers. Credit channelstv, Rytegate. 4 Likes

Another thing that projects the beauty of Enugu City is the tarring of inner roads. Just imagine how ugly it would have looked if the inner roads weren’t tarred. I have asked this question before and I will ask again: How come Enugu was able to afford to tar most of their inner streets roads when other south east states don’t do the same? 4 Likes |

horsepower101: Ofcourse, the ONLY reason an average American town looks better than equivalent European city is that they took time to plan every city, then plant LOTS of trees and flowers. The reason new owerri looks better than regular Owerri town is that the entire area was well planned. The reason Enugu looks better and more habitable than other Equivalent sized cities in the SE is that it is well planned while the others aren't Infact, if you looked at just buildings, other SE states will totally defeat Enugu. But since these beautiful houses are in largely unplanned or poorly planned estates, even basic building in well planned estates appear a lot better! 7 Likes |

horsepower101: Using the housing estates model to develop is actually a good thing. But Planting trees and flowers must be taken seriously in Nigeria. Recently, Nigerian estates look like Agadez where no single plan is found and everything is just concrete and sand. A culture of planting flowers and trees must be incorporated into our culture. Even currently built up areas must be impressed upon to plant trees and flowers. It makes all the difference between Nigerian estates that look terrible and unhabitable to even Ghanaian estates that look clean and inviting. See pictures below. 1st picture Nigeria 2nd picture Ghana 6 Likes 1 Share

Enugu state, one day Ebonyi state will look exactly or even more like you, we already have the master-plan waiting for visionary leaders and fund to execute. If you see better tin and praise it, surly better better tin will come calling. We already have the trees, grasses and a solid soil to build anything we can afford. God continue to bless our hustle and Igboland forever. Amen 12 Likes 2 Shares |

OreMI22: I remember when the guy who built the one in the first picture was promoting the estate on nairaland, he was seriously criticized by everyone for lack of flowers, gardens or trees. I respect the humility of that guy because he went back and tried his best to create space for flowers. Unfortunately the space was too small because it wasn’t part of the original plan but I am sure that the next estate he will build, he will make sure that trees and flowers are planted. 1 Like |

arinzeejikonye: See how beautiful these are and yet, the white man still made us believe Rome is more beautiful than our cities. We must advertise Enugu city to the world ASAP. Pompeii in Itayi is today a tourist city where people come to play at some beaches and some Enugu areas match up to Pompeii in beauty that is why we must advertise this city through any means possible because Enugu has what it takes. 6 Likes 2 Shares |

horsepower101:Visionary leaders and goodwill, some leaders are just pure wicked, others are handicapped With what they met on ground, if the said Streets is already haphazardly build up it will be very difficult to reconstruct and no matter how you you to reshape it, it's beauty is already gone. It is better an area is being planned before building anything... From there houses will not be dragging Road with vehicles. Enugu got it right. 7 Likes 1 Share |

OreMI22: Other reasons why European and American cities look more beautiful than ours are cleanliness, neat and painted houses and covered drainage/gutter. If you visit Okorocha's family estate, it looks like entering Burnham in UK due to the clean roads, new houses, covered gutters and many, many and many shrubs and flowers everywhere. Enugu state can achieve European look in no due time once we close all gutters and turn them to side walks and continue our tree planting. 3 Likes 1 Share |

AnambraDota: What you have said will make sense ONLY on one condition. 1. THEY WILL PLAN THE AREA AND RESTRICT DEVELOPMENT TO ONLY HOTELS AND BUSINESS DISTRICTS LIKE EKO-ATLANTIC PROJECT. If that vital area is opened up for residential houses, it will be better to leave it as the arable farmland it is now. Let the residential houses be built in Oba, Obosi or Nkwelle. 5 Likes 1 Share

OreMI22: Estate model is not the best. I prefer layouts, the way we built Independence, New Haven, Uwani, etc. Where areas connect to the central grid by interconnected roads, so, traffic can be averted. Those dead end collection of houses called Estates that lead to know where don't cut it for me. Which estate is better than Independence layout or Trans Ekulu in Enugu? 6 Likes 1 Share |

OreMI22:Your points above confirm my constant assertion on this thread that until we run governance strictly on business principles and logic of free market,we may never attain our best. Anambra shoreline remains largely untapped,un-utilized and a wasting gold mine. Given the industrial and commercial depth of the State, something akin to Broadway or Eko Atlantic is long overdue here. The entire River Niger coast is prime for such up scale development. I still wonder why all the big businesses in Anambra and environs have their administrative offices in Lagos when we can replicate the structures right on our coast and use every business trick in the book to attract them home. Before Dr Maduka built his iconic hospital and other structures,no one thought it possible. Today,it is a reality. His courage alone ought to kick-start a revolution. I wish! He just threw a challenge which I wish the government of the day can key into by developing upscale business parks and structures either along the coast or someone else with a pristine outlook. 8 Likes 1 Share |

horsepower101: The quality of leadership in Enugu as well as the relative stability governance in the state has enjoyed since 1999 should be a major factor. All it's governors since 1999 have either been medical doctors or lawyers (i stand to be corrected), and most if not all of them have come from wealthy families that made their names right from the 60s and 70s. You may have all the money in the world, but you can't buy class and refinement! 5 Likes 1 Share |
