Trust me those VOs are really heartless except for one young lady that stays in window 9 in Abuja embassy.
The man is window 8 uses just 15 seconds to give out pink while the woman in window 9 takes time to listen to you. She gave out to 75% of the people she interviewed while that man gave like 5% only.
My interview was on the 13th of September that's two days ago.
Before 13th other students going for this same competition about 3 that were lucky to go to window 9 were given visa. After the first the two Ddnt even need to talk much immediately they mentioned the competition the woman gave them the white print. Other students that went to window 6,7 and 8 were denied instantly. So Sept 13th we were 15 students from different schools that had interview that day. Lucky a student had gone in very early he was lucky to get window 9 he got his visa. So it was remiaining the 14 of us. We were interviewed around 11. Unluckily the woman in window 9 wasn't on seat anymore. So we were shared to different windows. I was given window 7 which had a black American.

Me: I told her bla bla bla. Told her I was in final year currently working on my final year project (note this is supposed to be something that will bring me back cos a friend of mine got his visa last year because of the project he mentioned he was working on)

Me: prediction of solution gas oil ratio in saturated reservoirs using neural networks.
Vo: can u explain it to me?
Me: I explained everything
Vo: who's sponsoring?
Me: I told her and I handed her the letter from the organization and the bank statement (last year I was rejected after handing the bank statement to the VO in Lagos cos it was as if the money in the account was too small to take care of 15 students that were going last year)

I just received my invitation letter & I want to apply for a B2 usa visa by Sept. 2018 month end. Plan travelling by January 2019 by God grace.

Please advice, can I apply with my int'l passport as it expires by April 2020, and the passport valid time remaining will be less than 2 years by April 2020 ?

Will the VO not say that my int'l passport remaining valid date is less than 2 years & it can't carry the regular 2 years visit visa , please advice?

I never said it was questionable however we need to look at things from the perspective of what is happening as opposed to what things are meant to be like . US visa officers are granted an almost unregulated level of autonomy to decide whether applicants qualify for their visa or not . Thus if they suspect anything they can deny without thinking twice . In addition I guess you are aware that F1 visa is a non-immigrant visa but an intent by the daughter to switch to an immigrant visa was already obvious during the mum’s interview. Daughter went to US on F1 visa (which is usually valid for two years ) and is already married to a US citizen with a US born child . This is a clear case of intending to immigrate and the VO may have suspected that mum may be an intending immigrant . If you’ve noticed during visa interviews the interviewer usually types some form of note as you are answering the questions which may serve as a reference point for the next interviewer. And lastly mothers going to stay with daughters during and after birth is more of an African thing . I don’t hear of it among the whites ( Europeans / Americans ) and I’m guessing the VO is also not so abreased with our African culture . My comment was based on all these facts . There are a lot of intending immigrants in Nigeria at the moment which makes its difficult for these visa officers to clearly identify .

While it’s not crime to switch visas I’m sure you know that visa officers don’t like to hear anything to in line with plans to switch from a non-immigrant visa to an immigrant visa from within the US. On the other hand regarding the validity of F1 visa I repeat that Nigerian passport holders are granted F1 visas with a validity of at most two years . It’s can be renewed thereafter but no Nigerian passport holder gets a B or F visa with a validity of more than two years . Citizens of Kenya get B & F visas with a 5 year validity and citizens of South Africa get B & F visas with a maximum of 10 years validity .
Don’t get me wrong I’m in no way justifying the actions of the visa officer but at the moment visa issuance rate is low in Nigeria , Ghana and some other countries. Only about 40-45 % of applicants are successful with their B visa application . So kindly advise people based on what is happening and not based on what is meant to happen. I won’t advise the Op to reapply immediately.

1. Call your brother and ask him, how he got into the US, did he use a tourist visa and overstay, did he do a sham marriage for a green-card, those are some good questions to ask.

2. How did you meet your husband (to the wife). This might have to do again with your brother's case, maybe he arranged a sham marriage with an American. Again talk with your brother.

3. Your brother in the US, is a tie to the US. So you need greater ties to Nigeria.

4. Again, talk to your brother.

I am not God, but I don't think you will get a visa, until you have some HARD TIES TO NIGERIA. Its not fair to be paying for your brother's sins.
But this is the only way they get to punish defaulters, indirectly.

If I were the VO, I would wonder why the trip is being sponsored by her husband rather than the family she is going to stay with... after all, she is going to help take care of their baby.

Will her husband also be paying for her feeding in the US? Is her son in law not capable of sponsoring her? Will she then be tempted to work?...

I do think that is why she was denied.

When she reapplies let her mention that her son in law will be sponsoring the trip.

Visa for all categories is issued for not more than two years. What I said, was that you can be on an F visa for longer than two years. And FYI, you don’t even need to renew it. Once you’re in good standing and you’ve not fallen out of status,and you have continuous enrollment and a current I-20 you can stay in the US on an expired F visa. The only reason most people renew is because they want to travel out of the US and need a visa to be let back into the country.

PS: lots of people’s relatives have gone to the embassy and told the VOs their relatives got permanent residency or US citizenship through adjustment of status from an F visa and they’ve gotten US visas. Is it not even easy for the person to file a green card straight for her mom instead of going the B visa route? We’re not VOs, so nobody can be sure with all certainty why the woman was denied visas. They never relied on their son/daughter or brother/sister’s possession of a F1/H1B to secure a VO’s approval. The question I asked you is if you being on an F visa at one time or the others affected your relatives chances of a visa. I only corrected your notion of whether or not an F visa and subsequent AOS affects their relatives chances of a visa, because they switched from a non-immigrant visa to an immigrant visa —which you mentioned in the first post I quoted. My relatives got visas based on their own individual ties, but me having being on an F visa at one point and being a subsequent immigrant never hindered my relatives’ chances at a visa. Likewise people that I know that followed the same route. That’s what I am trying to tell you.
