The Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) of the Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has endorsed Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to pick the party’s governorship ticket for the 2019 election in the state.

Sen. Anthony Adefuye, a member the council, announced the endorsement to party members on Saturday, at a stakeholders’ meeting at the ACME Road state party secretariat.

He said GAC, the highest decision-making body of the chapter, arrived at the endorsement after a meeting, which lasted for several hours.

Adefuye said the meeting was chaired by national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and was attended by other prominent members of the party.

Adefuye listed Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila and Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr Mudashiru Obasa as some of those also at the meeting.

He said that the decision to back Sanwo-Olu, a former Commissioner for Training and Establishment, against the incumbent, Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode, was in the interest of the state and the party.

Adefuye also announced that the governorship primary had been postponed from Sunday to Monday but gave no reason for the shift.

He told the crowd that another aspirant, a former Commissioner for Works, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, had withdrawn from the race and had endorsed Sanwo-Olu.

“There was a GAC meeting held this morning, which was attended by the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker, House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, and others.

“This meeting was chaired by our national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. This is a meeting that we started at 10am. and we couldn’t finish early.

“After the meeting, I have been mandated by the GAC to announce this to you.

“The gubernatorial primary earlier scheduled for tomorrow, September 30th, has been shifted to Monday, October 1.

“Also, the GAC was informed by Dr Obafemi Hamzat of his decision to graciously step down and endorse Jide Sanwoolu.

“GAC has endorsed Babajide Sanwo-Olu as its preferred candidate ahead of the primary,” he added.

If Ambode's performance radiates so well in all sectors of the state, speaking of not endorsing him for the next gubernatorial election wouldn't be discussed.

The lightening almost struck for Fashola but his effort which was a step up from that of Tinubus' bailed him.

Though I frown at the "greedy god father" who wants all tax and levies to be remitted to his pocket but looking at the picture of Lagos now will make one almost shed tears. Apart from the filthy state ( piled refuse/sewage), road condition is deploring everyday, electricity supply is on relegation level, etc.

Even if the Light up, and bus terminus layby are quite good initiative, these doesn't have significant effect on the economic and infrastructural development in the state.

Maybe Jide Sanwo-olu would take up from where Fashola stopped. I'm tired of Ambode honestly. He failed and messed up the antecedents of Lagos growth.

Lalasticlala and Mynd44, what are your views gentlemen?

You got an eye. May God bless you. Ambode is a colossal failure. Very useless as a leader. I wonder what he's coming out to do in the second term.

All hail Fashola, he remains the best governor Nigeria ever produced.

Ambode is a shameless man for even thinking of vying for second term. As incompetent as Buhari.

I guess it's end of the road for Ambode. So sad he got himself into this mess due to arrogance.

Whatever the case, the party should create a level playing field for the two aspirants. The primary should be free, fair and credible so that Ambode won't have any reason to complain after losing.

Very good. All roads are now clear for another party to take over Lagos State in 2019.

These are all media politics. It’s just to sway public interest. Many people thought so highly of Ambode up until this guy came around in the news. And some of the people praising Ambode on NL are now clamouring for his exit.

Media politics can be so devastating. I imagine the primaries will be keenly contested.

#I still think Ambode will win though. At least if APC wants to retain Lagos.
