BMedia: Do not despair, but continually improve yourself as you put your faith and trust in God.
Let me share my story - So I and a relative finished from the same faculty some years ago, and due to several factors including a ridiculous uni policy and juvenile deliquency, we only managed to finish with a pass degree. Of course I was disheartened but we went ahead to serve the nation (NYSC). Soon after, my cousin's dad who was in government was able to secure a job for him with an international NGO operating in our state, despite the class of degree, while I went to the U.K to attempt a fresh degree. Few years later I graduated with a 2.1 (Honours) and immediately proceeded for my MSc which I completed with a Merit. All these cost me at least N30 million in tuition and living expenses as this was when the Naira fell as low as N600 to 1 pound.
Well I returned to Nigeria with my 3 degrees expecting to be the toast of employers, but I kept passing aptitude tests and attending interviews but was unable to get a job due to the Nigerian factor (though i must admit I was initially rather choosy considering the magnitude of my investment) until a month ago when I landed an FG job (through connection not merit) which pays next to nothing, but I accepted as a stepping stone to greater heights (if you know how the FG works).
Interestingly while I was bettering myself for the labour market, my cousin had already married, gained significant NGO experience, and only a few weeks ago got a mouth watering (actually an understatement) offer to join their mission in the U.S based on his satisfactory performance on the job over the years. With a pass degree.
Now is this fair? Of course not. Do i regret my choices? Not at all because the exposure, knowledge and experience I gained (worked in insurance for a year during my masters in the UK) has equipped me for greatness and my faith and trust in God assures me that i was only being prepared for the greater exploits, according to his divine purpose, especially as I am working towards establishing a private practice, amidst other entrepreneurial aspirations.
I hesitatingly decided to share this story but I hope it encourages you, with the knowledge that your class of degree does not ultimately determine your altitude in life, but your divine purpose, God's timing and your hunger for success and self improvement. Stop using your friend as a ruler to measure yourself, instead pray & trust in God, think outside the "teaching box" (get relevant professional certifications, attend seminars for networking opportunities, explore entrepreneurship) and you should be fine. Good luck.

shege45: Let me tell you guys a brief story. When i was in secondary school, i was the best student in my class. I was so good that I represented my school in any competition held.
Going to university, i still had that flare. I was still very serious. I read like a mad person , but due to some factors , my gp was really bad in yr 2 and 3. Regardless of the fact that I studied hard. Other years were good but it was unfortunate i came out with a 2.2 degree. If a degrees were to be given according to your level of seriousness, I would have made a first class.
However, i came out of school thinking that atleast its not like 2.2 is a bad result, It’s average. I tried looking for a job, but everywhere says minimum 2.1. I had to settle for a teaching job which i still do now. I have given up on looking for job because everyone says the same thing. 2.2 has made me believe i am no longer intelligent. People in my family, my friends , my colleagues at work all believe that i am intelligent. But my degree tells me otherwise.
Now here is what saddens me. A friend of mine whom i knew i was better than academically back in school posted a picture of a car given to him by his employer. He came out with a 2.1 (p:s he got that job without knowing anyone in the company,he saw it online and applied).Everyone in the department knew how he always passed his exams. Although i am genuinely happy for him, but I am sad for myself. Do employers think that we 2.2 graduates are totally worthless? Coming out with 2.1 is a nice achievement and many people who got it worked really hard for it but many factors can make a bright student come out with 2.2. I have been teaching for three years now and I sometimes ask myself, would I continue like this? I don’t want to be like some of my colleagues who are way older than i am and still teaching. I am 25.
An advice to people in universities. Do any thing you can to come out with a 2.1. Don’t let that no job thing fool you. Read , cheat or buy 2.1, but do whatever it takes to come out with it. Get it first then listen to the no job story because your story can actually change with it. As for 2.2, there is actually no job unless you have somebody somewhere. Mtcheeeeeeewwewwwww You didn't make sense at all. Do you know that in my department for example, 2 of 5 had 3rd class, 2 of 5 had 2.2, 0.9 of 5 had pass and 0.1 of 5 had 2.1. Just like you, out of the 4 2.1 in my class, only 2 deserved it. I knew how everyone got what he had and i can remain proud of what i got even if it doesn't get me a good job with a multi national company. Asíde this i know 3 of my drop out class mates that are doing very well. One is a PhD holder, one works with a multi national. Lastly, you must be grateful for that which you have truely earned. Pray that God gives you what you desire in his ways not by ways of man. 2 Likes |

perezski: @ OP tell me what exactly is wrong with teaching. Only if you know how much we(IGCSE certified teachers) earn in the Metropolis of Abj and also some parts of Lagos, you will appreciate what you have and begin to develop your skills, experience and certifications in the teaching industry. Try find a Cambridge certified school where they write IGCSE and major in the British curriculum and ditch all these archaic and dated private schools with WAEC n NECO orientations. Since u said u are academically sound i want to believe u can teach one or 2 IGCSE subjects with a sound knowledge of these subjects overtime. With these done, big Cambridge schools will definitely require your services with nothing less than 200k or 250k as a starter and with some other juicy packages under your terms of condition of work subject to your negotiating skills. As i write this to you most certified Cambridge schools pay nothing less than 300-400k monthly to someone with mininum of 5yrs teaching experience especially in Abuja(still subject to your negotiating skills). Teaching has swiftly gone beyond the traditonal 9ja black board or white board learning styles to the use of wholistic digital learning tools and other 21st century learning techniques that are fun and creative. All these are easily learnt and acquired if u find ursef in certified cambridge schools. With patience and perseverance you will get there. Do not consume yoursef with the defeatistic mindset that its impossible to get to these schools without connections and pls always tink outside the box. If you are a 2.1 degree holder or 2.2 teaching and earning less than 100k after 4-5 years in the same profession, you definitely have a problem. Today, teaching jobs have lots of opportunities where if you know you know.....when u tap into it u thank me later.... Great comment. Please, I need to discuss an issue with you concerning the points you raised in your post. Can I send a PM to you? 1 Like |

enoconcernme: I hope you get to read this.
My advice is that you should start over. Trust me you are just 25 years old if you do start over in 5 years time you will definitely get your life back in track.
I must point out that starting over in Nigeria is very difficult so here is my advice. Save a little money take GRE/GMAT depending on your area of study. Please study real hard for this exam and consult as many reading materials as possible. Join forums, engage with people that have done it and share their views and experience. With very good grade, good motivation letter and references your chance of getting a scholarship for a master degrees in the states is very high. Many schools in the states will overlook your short comings if your GRE/GMAT is very good couple with a great SOP.
When you get there work really hard and with good grades at the end of your masters you would have reset your life and put yourself back in track. It may sound scary but I know a lot of people that have done it.
NB: Should you succeed in getting admission with full funding please do not fall into the temptation of being distracted by the family drama back home. Please blank everyone and focus on graduating with a very good grade and with a good job thereafter you can pander to their needs. But if you chose to listen to their complaints and whining and get distracted you will wind up with a low grade and that will place you in a very difficult spot. You don't want to experience that again!
Should you have any questions you can always ask me. Good luck in whatever decision you take. Hello please, can you recommend such forums and how to get on one. Please link me up, am planning on taking GMAT but don't know how I can use such to secure scholarships. |

I see people sharing their stories to help motivate you but the truth is you need the knowledge of the word of God in your life. It puts you over every circumstance and situations in life. If we all come to naira land to pen down our problems you will run but when u know that you are a child of God , you know it can only get better. Your Faith is what makes the difference! Your faith is what attracts your blessings to you. U don't know if your friend that got a job used faith for that job, you think life is play play. Life is Spiritual and sometimes you have to take some things by force, including your job. Your life is not in God's hands, your life is in your hand and in your mouth. Wat are you using your mouth for? No job no job but people are employed daily in this same Nigeria. Bro u are 25 and u are still young, wise up!!! Get certifications, get experience as you are doing now, write a good CV, network on LinkedIn and you are good to go. Don't let anyone tell you no job, there is job and even if there is no job, you can start up one, get a skill eg photography, web designing, graphic designing, shoe making, tailoring just anything u have passion for. You are limiting yourself by your words and you should stop thinking negatively. Don't compare yourselves with others, everyone has different destinies.
I don't think you need a new job, you need a new mindset because your next employer will appreciate this new mindset if you decide to get one. 5 Likes |

Where I work, everyone that's a staff had a 2-1 and there are close to 500 of them like that and if I add those other people with 2-1's that I know working with other well paying coys then the number will hit 3000 if not more. Please don't let anyone fool you. Get that 2-1 first before getting to ask whether there are jobs or not.PS:Do not devise dubious or fraudulent means in your pursuit of a 2-1 ehinmowo:
Bro. Some 2:1 and first class are begging for job and can't still find. If some of us begin to open our 'can of worms' to you, you will find succour. But what I have learnt despite all is that, one should NEVER give up as long as you are still breathing. Discovered that when you give up, people and nature begin to give up on you. And it begins to show even in your physical body. When I set a target for a particular year and nothing comes up, I will only be pained for a while. Eventually, I set another one. I don't want to leave this world without knowing that I have exhausted all. 1 Like |

Funds? Is 500k enough to start sth? If given that, wat will u do to up it? We can collabo. No jokes
I asked a couple graduate job seekers that question, no real answer.
we'll set up digital marketing training sessions... Imagine advertising a digital marketing training to people in majorly big churches and charge each person that attends 5k and let's say 50 people attends, that's 250k in just 2 Saturdays oo. The only expense would be fuel for generator, renting projector and paying like 2 facilitators like 10k each... Total profit would be like 200k ... I just need someone to ginger my morale for this idea jare.. |

Don't let life circumstances change your honesty... No Matter how much you study not everyone will pass.
Probably God has a choosen path of success that you have not known yet.
Just pray to God concerning your situation and he will guide you.
Note: It might also be a spiritual problem(battle).
Anyways just pray. Meaning he has not been praying |
