A senator can take home a minimum of 20m naira a month yet a worker can’t earn a measly 24k a month. Where is fairness here |

MallamJackson: Then they should down size their workforce to manageable levels just as any private sector operators would or preferrably right size by commercializing as many government functions as possible so that revenue generating agencies absorb part or all the departmental wage bill. What we lack in Nigeria is ideas. Politicians are elected to make a difference. They are elected not to continue the failed systems of their predecessors but to generate new ideas for the betterment of the society that empowers them. I think the National Assembly needs to pass legislation obliging all Federating units, both state and local government to set aside a fraction of their budget to invest in revenue earning enterprises with the aim of augmenting income from the Federation account and ensure milestone targets are achieved towards total financial independence over the medium to long term. I cannot see how the gap between earnings from Federal coffers and the wage bill will not continue to expand within the structure we presently operate as the nation's population continues to increase and the economy remains largely moribund. States should be compelled to invest, to partner the private sector and be shareholders in enterprise. 2 Likes |

All those states that can not generate revenue to pay their workers should be collapsed back to the former state they used to be as I see no reason for creating a state without plans of generating its funds to run it...God go also punish those governors...how much is ur monthly pay that u can not collect less to pay 24k... All these old men that have refused to let d youths grow or develop what we have...na we youths cause am,we never ready to take it but force or by violence 1 Like |

rottennaija:you really expatiated everything to the brim, I keep asking myself where Nigeria would become good is coming from exactly. Because these people called our politicians would rather run the country aground than review their sumptuous lifestyles to the betterment of plebeian Nigerians. Till this moment, we still don't know how much is the budget for our senate house. Nigeria issue is beyond perception and assimilation to me. |
Re: Minimum Wage: We Can’t Pay N24, 000 – NGF by Reference(m): 9:53am On Oct 19, 2018 |
Mordson: It is true that most of them cannot pay. It is easy to say 24,000 is small but the truth is that when you multiply that by say 200,000 workers and factor in various grade levels you will be talking about several billions, then the civil service as we know is filled with all manner of incidental expenses that further bloats this figure. The fact is that the amounts donot really matter. What is important in expenditure is what you get back from it. It becomes very burdensome when you spend without a visible, tangible return as in social expenditure, but when you expend in investment you recieveall manner ofsupport and encouragement. I think the narrative and outlook of our public service has to change from one of pure expenditure to one about investment expenditure. I think we need to radically reform the way government works. Every year hundreds of thousands across the country retire and jump on the pension bandwagon. If we cannot set aside pension funds for example and properly invest them to leverage then we will get to a point whereby the 5 percent (by population) of the civil service consumes 100 percent of the annual budget and national revenues. Nigeria needs to up its productivity and generate new ideas to pay its workers. This system is unsustainable and will lead to increasing crises sooner than later. 4 Likes |

Anyad231:well said bro but the divisive nature with which Nigerians do things is the major reasons why "doing it by force or violence will not work" because you will always see some bunch of youths on the side of these "old cargoes" because of Little change they've been given. at these points it's the mercy of God that will see us through. 1 Like |

900warriorz:my brother I undastand ur view but the truth is will their be a country called Nigeria after another four year with the present government. We are not there yet but I think Nigerians are beginning to reason well when it comes to elections. If the present government is not working no need trying further. And who said Atiku must stay for 8 year.if Buhari that his crew said is a religion and a god is finding it difficult now who won't. |

I prefer a government that will share its loot with the poor to a government that will keep the loot within their family and friends only. The present polithiefcians are stealing as much as PDP goons, but they are just more selfish and more daring. Wicked lot. |
