mendes911: In essence, what stops other banks from making money from investment banking? STANBIC is an investment bank at heart anyway. So they are making money from their area of core competence. |

I'm wondering... Should I sell my fidelity now and wait for people to dump it after the earnings season, then re-enter... Or should I hold it until election bulls take it up in February/March?? currentprice: |

Zenith - longest weekly streak , 6 consecutive higher weekly closures - above 10 wk MA , trend it bullish - testing its 200-ema from below - SP now touching the weekly flat kijun - cud possibly take week rest |
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by mendes911: 1:14pm On Oct 26, 2018 |
bigjay01: Ok. That's why I said the "end justifies the means". But also, there's a reason why the investment banking arm is not stated as the "company" on their financial docs. All in All, Stanbic is making money. That's the ultimate goal. |

Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by onegentleguy: 1:32pm On Oct 26, 2018 |
bigjay01: I do understand ur point. Yes it's possible that the coy (NASCON) can turn things around by YE. The 1st and last quarter of the yr (Q1 and Q4) are usually their period of likely bumper returns. ...due to the perceived Easter and Christmas celebrations when people tend to consume more. So also with most of its peers in the FMCG sector. But remember that the current u-turn in inflation index is likely going to put some strain on the purchasing power of Nigerians and by extension, the earnings drive of coys in the FMCG sector. Again apart from salt produce where NASCON seem to have a clear edge, competition is stiff in their other arms of business. This result is a draw back, but of course options are still open. I still think the management of the coy has a 55% chance to turn things around. However, they will have to deliver an exceptional performance in Q4 though, to get that to happen (YoY growth) Because looking at the result so far, I think it will likely be difficult for them to outperform their revenue and earnings line YoY. ...with most coys in the FMCG sector, margins are contracting. It would be best to adopt a wait and see approach to weigh how they fair by YE before taking a decision. ...just a quick view of things. But due diligence should still remain ur 1st priority !! It is well. 1 Like 1 Share |
