I'm a computer engineering student in 100 lvl and the first semester results were released, I was shocked to see a 3.82 with D in 2 courses, both 3 units.

I can swear I wrote nothing less than a 4.2, pls help me I'm so confused right now. I've cried and cried but my result remains same.

There's no way you're graduating with a First Class if you continue like this. having two Ds in 3 units courses at this early stage. You never see anything. My Advice for you is Too much of Nairaland is affecting your Brain. First Class in Engineering no be Beans. that's not how we Take off. if you no get 4.5 in your 100 level CGPA then I'll kindly advise you to forget about First class in your life Ever again. but if hopefully you learn your mistakes and humble yourself. Then I can gladly tell say you can make it.

NUC Approved New Grade System For Universities

The National Universities Commission,
NUC is no longer using a scale of 5, the new system is based on a scale of 4.

First Class is 3.5 – 4.
Second Class is 3 – 3.49.
Second Class Lower is 2.0 – 2.99.

According to NUC Chairman, Professor Shehu Galadanchi released to all Nigerian Universities.

THE NEWLY APPROVED GRADING SYSTEM FOR UNIVERSITIES

Under the new Four (4)- point Grading Scale, grades to be used for students who have satisfactorily completed the course of study are as follows:

Letter grade: Marks grade point

A (70 and above) 4
B (60-69%) 3
C (50-59%) 2
D (45-49%) 1
E (40-44%) 0

CGPA Ranges under the new Four (4)-
point Grading Scale for Classification of Degrees:

3.5 - 4.00 – First Class Honours
3.0 - 3.49 – Second Class Honours (Upper Division)
2.0 - 2.99 – Second Class Honours (Lower Division)
1.0 - 1.99 – Third Class Honours

No student whose CGPA is less than 1.0 shall be awarded a degree.

Deans of Faculties and Heads of Departments are enjoined to ensure compliance and commencement of the new regulations with the intakes of 2017/2018 Session, while the old regulations remain applicable to students admitted before the 2017/2018 Session.

What ever the reason, you sha go polytechnic. If your dad is really wealthy or has the connection like you said you wouldn't have to go through Poly. Also be realistic, you can't get a first class cos you've been through higher institution before so you are suppose to know how the system works. I don't consider you a fresher... You don old for the system bt you dey yearn like say you just comot secondary school. Just make sure you keep up your grades, you can do better but don't drop

thats just first semester GPA. I think with serious studying it's possible

Someone posted something similar to yours I think yesterday or so and I'll repeat what I told him... It's not too late, this is just 1 out of 10 semesters.. you still have 9 more semesters left to make up for this. Sometimes your result may not turn out the way you expect it to be, it shouldn't make you give up....It should only motivate you to work harder. Always aim for a 5.0 so even if you don't get it, you'll get something close to it

In 100level I got B in both. Some of my colleagues had A in both. Practical grades are just luck. Sometimes you see someone who copied from you has an A yet you might have a B. Just put in your best and leave the rest. Since you have no command over Practicals, endeavor to do excellently well in your written courses. Should the practical grades come out weak, an excellent grade in other courses would cover up the deficiency at least to some extent.

Year 1 is like high school
You become an engineering student totally in year 2
You do need a good mentor to help you get at least 2.1
I helped mentor like 2 guys who are serving now, they both had upper division
You just have to be street smart as well
