Hope the interview is not as soon as November? Because you still have a lot of loopholes to cover up. Ain't a guru but I know when you are getting it wrong from personal experience garnered so far.

I know others will also contribute, but take this little piece along with what ever they add.

What happened to Why USA?

Why Nursing?

Also, the response to the question, "What's your study plan?" You are not to even say "depending on my GPA", who says that? I mean the VO might not wait for another second before handing over the blue paper to you. It definitely shows you ain't brilliant enough to study Medicine or whichever course it could be. Haba!! You must be convincing enough to show you are gonna make it top of the class, which I believe you can.

Also, how dare you say "depending on my guardian's opinion" ? If you can graduate top of the class, then you need not ask for your guardian's consent to continue, s/he will be glad to give his/her best to ensure you continue your studies, although I may not be fully right with this, but that remains my own opinion.

Why did you choose Baltimore?
Uhmmmm, any reputable institution will do what you just mentioned, I have seen several times 100kobo and Lagosismyhome, mentioning that you should try to be program specific when giving reasons for choosing a particular school. It shows you have done your research.

When did you finish secondary school?
Don't mention your parents' inability to make available what you think you need to succeed academically, that doesn't sound right to me, although it's a personal decision. But when did you write your A level exams? Will you be presenting it at the interview? Then, it means you were working at your uncle's hospital, spending some time to learn the basics of Nursing before taking your A level prior to applying to a school in the US. Isn't it?

Vo: So you intend going for an associate degree then you will transfer ?
Me: Yes sir

This last statement counters what you mentioned earlier, as you said you are not sure of your next move after graduation.
So, you need to be careful of what your responses as VOs try to play pranks on interviewees.

I ask again, hope you ain't going for the interview as soon as November, if yes, you need a lot of reformation and practice to get the visa issued, well, I just remembered you never mentioned "Who will be sponsoring you?

Success. I long to see your visa issued transcript.

Thanks for the observations, please look through this again and let me know where potholes are....Thanks for your time
Vo: Good morning
Me: Good morning ma( with a smile)
Vo: What your study plan ?
Me: I plan to acquire an associate degree in nursing of which it a 70 credit course at a period of 2 year's of which I will be taking course's such as Human Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology,Psychology and the likes prior to my graduation
Vo: Why associate degree?
Me : I choose associate degree because it is the most affordable for me and my guardian for now and would give me an in depth knowledge of what I actually wanted within this period
Vo: Why did you choose to study in the US ?
Me: It a known fact that a certificate in nursing in the united states is well respected and highly ranked and accepted anywhere in this competitive world, therefore I see a foundational degree in the US to be a very good decision
Vo : Why did u choose bccc ?
Me : I chose Baltimore city community college because of the standard and content of education they offer and the fact that they give helping hands to their students to achieve their goal's
Vo: Why Nursing?
Me: I chose to study nursing as a career because I got passion to care and to help save life's and help to comfort those in pain's
Vo: As a nurse what are your goal's?
Me : To respond to emergencies, care for patient and the likes
Vo : What are your plan's after graduation?
Me : I plan in transferring my 70 credit course to a University to acquire more knowledge that would certify me with a bachelor's degree to compete with my co-colleague when I return to my home country, I plan coming back to the health sector for health restructuring with the knowledge I would have acquired
Vo: When did you finished sec school?
Me : 2009
Vo: What have you been doing since then ?
Me : I have been going to tutorials and later applied for an A'level program and I have been in my Uncle's hospital getting familiar with nursing duties
Vo: What other school did you apply to ?
Me : Houston community college
Vo : So you intend going for an associate degree then you will transfer ?
Me : Yes sir
Vo; I will be approving your visa, pick it up in the ....

Please look through this again

So many potholes, not one, not two. I wouldn't know when you wish to apply. I would rather you're not in a hurry to do so. Concentrate more on compiled Transcripts and watch you spot the "potholes" yourself. This Thread is such a blessing and repository. It's a pity many have elected not to take the time to rummage through it.

Yours is still work in progress and with a little more effort, you'll get it right.

Thanks

Hi gurus,
I have been on this thread for a while now and somehow I don't know how to post or relate with people here. I just created my account and I am excited to be able to post this here.

Firstly, I have gained admission to WIU and I have full funding with monthly stipends. I have registered for my visa appointment and I made mistake in my Ds-160 I put Jan 2019 - December 2019 but my I-20 shows January 2019 - dec 2020.

Secondly, my appointment is close and I need gurus that can help to scrutinize my prepared transcript. I have written out likely questions and I have provided my answers. Pls I need help and anyone willing can pls contact me through my mail at opeyemisodiq92@gmail.com as I don't know how it works here yet. I look forward to your favourable response.

*Visa Interview Oreientation at the Walter Carrington Victoria Island Lagos*

2 female consular(The black american lady that denied me on Monday lol and one other white American lady)

Don't get nervous,Most students are denied because they look nervous like they crammed the whole thing in their head.Be yourself and lets have a chit chat.
Talk to us like you talking to a friend, don't get nervous because it's not gonna do you any good.We are humans like you.
Learn about your school, your course of study, where you gonna stay, your city.Talk like a geniue student.Studying in the U.S. is not easy,so you gat prove to us that you deserve it.
Each consular has the way of asking questions.
The normal interview questions are...

Which school are you going to in the US?
Why you choosed the school?
How did you get to know about the school?
Your study plan?
Why the course and what will the course do do you,Its the same as what will this degree do for you?
Talk about your academic background?
What's your intent after study??(home ties)
Your sponsor and what he does??

Questions and Answers

Ques_Can applying to one school be the reason for denial?

Ans_No,just give us reason why you applied to one school that's all, there should be some unique reasons why you picked the school and not just because your friend is there or their anty is in that city or the ransom reasons students give to us.No,give us genieu reasons why you choosed the school and how you got to know about the school.

Ques_Can one get denied because you choosed a low ranked school or school that is not ranked?

Ans_You can choose any school that suits you,in as much it's accredited. The ranking doesn't really matter.Just tell us about the school, your major and why you choosed the school. That's all...
You should talk like a credible and qualified student that deserves to get a visa.

Que_Can dressing be a reason for refusal?

Ans_No,You can wear what suits you.It doesn't count.Your responses does.

Que_If the amount on your i-20 you used in processing the school is lesser than your recent bank statment. Is that a problem?

Ans_Not at all,in as much the amount on your i-20 can take care of your first and second year not necessarily the whole amount needed to finish your study!
Que_If your school included a test waiver,Is it bad to talk about it on your interview day?

Ans_Why not,in as much you can talk to us about it,Its not a problem...(but in my mind some consular don't find it funny, depending on who is interviewing you lol)

Que_When can I book for my interview ?

Ans_Don't book interview more than 120days to your resumption date .

Que_Is bank statment a requirement ?

Ans_No,Its not required by law to collect BS but you can use that to convince us that you can afford it. We might ask tho depending on who interviews you.Sometimes we ask and sometimes we don't.

Ques_what are the requirements for a successful visa interview?

Ans_Make sure you are a credible and qualified student
_ Preparation for course of study
_ Intent and ties to your home country

Ques_How can I show ties and proof to my country?

Ans_We don't need any proof just tell us what and what you want to do when you return,if you are gonna work or return to your work and say it confidently and if you are engaged or married let us know. They are also part of ties to your home country.

Okay. Here it is...........
V.O: I can see you are going to UNCG for a masters in peace and conflict studies?
Me: Yes,i am.
V.O: Why UNCG
Me: the major things i looked out for when applying was a school that offers my course,an affordable state, and the school's reputation. UNCG offers my course and an area that best fits my interest (negotiations and mediation), and its also one of the most prestigious US state owned universities and the students to faculty ratio is 18.1,which for me is a very good academic standard. North carolina on its own is one of the most affordable states in the country, and the standard of living there is great. And so for me, UNCG ticked of all my boxes in those areas.
V.O: did you apply to other schools , and where you accepted by all?
Me: answered in the affirmative.
V.O: Who is your sponsor?
Me: my dad and my maternal uncle.
V.O: What do they do?
Me: (explained to her)
V.O: (asks for their statements). She goes through it, and points out the part where my mum transfered a lump sum to my dad 2 days before the statement was printed. She asked who it was, and i explained to her that it was my mum.
V.O: i will be holding on to your passport and financial documents for further validation. You will be contacted in 3days. ( No white slip, no blue slip or even the pink letter)
An hour later i checked my status, and it was REFUSED.

You were only asked one important question "Why UNCG" and you didn't really do justice to the question. You gave a lot of generic points that didn't help to explain why you chose UNCG among all the schools in North Carolina. I guess so many schools in NC are offering your course with negotiations and mediation concentration, there are other affordable states in the US, and there are other prestigious state owned schools. Faculty ratio is a generic response that the VO would have heard a million times and a great standard of living shouldn't really be a determining factor that influences a student to choose a school over several others. At least from a VO point of view.

Why this school is a very common question that is asked at the start of almost all interviews, but sadly applicants give a very generic answer to this question. Response to "Why this school" should focus more on stuffs this school has that would aid you in achieving you academic dream. You should give specific examples too and not just generic response

Visa interview is a very short interview and you would want to create a good impression with the response to your very first/second question.

In my opinion I think your response to the "why UNCG" marred your chances and all other questions were just asked for asking sake. Work on your response to this and refire. hopefully you will get your visa at the next attempt.
Hope this helps, Adios

Hello all,

Please I have submitted my DS-160 form, booked for an appointment which will be on the 5th of December, and I will be attending Touro College New York City.

I have some few questions that are quite disturbing me and I see them as issues that may affect my chances, that's why I want to discuss here with anybody here that is willing give me sound advises.

My parents are old and have retired in the US with my Uncle who is citizen, but my parents don't have papers and are not working there. I want to know if this can affect my chances of getting a student visa?

I am married but with no Child yet. In my application I indicated that my parents are in US but I don't their status. Is this also ok?

Thank you very much.

My transcript is just like the regular ones everybody has read on this platform.

(first interview)

Me: Good morning madam
V.O: Nodded. Pass me your I-20 form and passport pls
Me: did
And every other questions were basically on my statement of account which was retained with the passport, scrutinized and I was told I will be banned for life if it turns out false. To which I was affirmative and said she should go ahead and do the background checks.
VO: she gave me a white form thereafter

Sunday, got a call from the embassy for a re-interview on Monday.
(2nd Interview)

VO: I've checked ur documents and you came out clean. Congratulations. When you get to the US, don't get involved in anything illegal and ensure you maintain your status to avoid troubles.
Me:Thank you Ma.
VO: Issued another white form to me,congratulated me again and wishes me luck.

Conclusion: Honesty and confidence are the keys. Also, pray for God's favour. I made a mistake with my DS160, putting my residential address for my place of birth, but all these never count against me during the interview, although I was going to explain myself truthfully that I made the mistake as a result of using Google autofill in order to avoid consistent running out of session during the registration.

But thanks to this platform for everything they have done to help honest average Nigerians.

Here your responses were sufficient as you initially got through. For some reason your bank statement might have been the issue . I know most embassies dont like lump sum and prefer seeing steady in and out . Not sure how to advice other than maybe go again and hope for the best . Or maybe you should have used your mum bank statment or gone with it

As a direct family member you can't say you don't know their status ...... So prepare for that questions as it might come up.

Actually my reason of stating that I don't know their status is because throughout this year, ever since I got married to my wife, my parents cut contact and relationship with me. They were never in support of the woman I married, thus that's why I have only done intro, and court marriage.

Secondly, before they decided not to return back to Nigeria, my Uncle who's a citizen have agreed to file for them a green card. I don't know what status I will call them considering the fact that I have not been in communication with them for a while now, and I don't know how things are going for them there.

Do you think this genuine reason is enough for the V.O? This is the only reason I have.
