Vega f1 fruiting. Fertilizer or Organic mulch always needed as it is a heavy feeder. 1 Like 1 Share

All six plants counting from previous page. Those close to more water are larger but will try to use mulch to preserve water for others. 20 litres used every 2/3 days per plant Fertlizer used monthly was npk 20:10:10 but will use expired Haifa NPK bonus (foliar fertilizer) which i bought and stored many years ago. Mulching done with kitchen scrap and lots of dried grasses including poultry manure Moringa solution used as fertilizer/spray too. 1 Like

Oga Emma.... weldon, pls can you update us about the marketing of commercial papaya (current market price) thanks |
Re: ... by Nobody: 11:25am On Nov 09, 2018 |
akorcy:Market price as at Tuesday was average of N100-N200 to wholesalers depending on size. They have not had supply for a long time this year from Edo state. I guess most farmers use the local variety and others don't irrigate the farms. Meaning one can decide to sell even higher during the raining season when there will be no supply. 1 Like |

Idemujoseph:That's about 3.5 hectares of land required and irrigation will be the biggest cost. 1 Like |

EMMAACHILE:Wow congrats so the journey from February has reached a point of harvest thank you for sharing this golden information, as in if i no plant this f1 next year i go vex for my self. is there a way one can control harvest so that one will not be in a hurry to sellof all at once? i was thinking of maybe spaced planting e.g plant 100 this week then plant another 100 next week so that when it comes to harvest it will be weekly instead of all at once?? 1 Like 1 Share |

EMMAACHILE: I think borehole or a well would be useful here |

EMMAACHILE:Slice am make we see inside na, is it sweet? |
Re: ... by Nobody: 5:12pm On Nov 10, 2018 |
abilityC:Hahaha. Agric looks like the next best thing to make money outside the Fulani menace. No job pays like a large hybrid improved farm. Other crops to consider include Wambugu apple, Moringa imported seedling or even a Plantain plantation. The fruits can stay fresh on the tree for two weeks or more if not plugged. From my observation, the 13 plugged so far ripen faster when on ground and will stay fresh for up to 10 days. Its advisable to plug when you see sign of yellow colouration on the fruit. The taste is super sweet with some not having seeds at all. Its a little firm from the outside but very soft on the inside. 3 Likes 1 Share |

abilityC:If its your own land, borehole will serve with a drip irrigation system but if there is a water source close by, you can use a raingun installation for the farm. The papaya plantation I learnt can be intercroped with pepper, onion or cabbage or plants that like shade like bitter leaf or Curry plant. 1 Like |

Some observations with the Vega f1 during the dry season in central Nigeria 1. If I don't wet the ground everyday, it will abort fruits meaning it will be needing a lot of water and plenty mulching to avoid this. 2. The leaves tend to burn during the dry season due to the sun furnace in the day especially days I don't water. 3. The production is superb as I even had to sell some because the production is average of 3 fruits per tree per week. 2 Likes |

Hello! I would like to make an inquiry about developing a pawpaw orchard on 1 hectare of Land. The idea is to be able to process the pawpaw leaves and produce as an anti-cancer substitute while also selling the fruits. Can you please give me an idea of 1) how and where the pawpaw seedlings can be obtained. 2) the kinds of machinery needed for the papaya leaves processing and its related cost and 3) how the farm can be set up and sustained. Thank you very much |
Re: ... by Nobody: 9:57pm On Dec 11, 2018 |
UncleSaka:1. You can get from Seedworld 2. No idea 3. Spacing is 2*2m and approximately 2000 per hectare. You may need to tile the ground for ease of planting the seedlings from the nursery. |

abilityC: You will need multiple boreholes or wells for that size of land |

EMMAACHILE:Thank you Mr Emma for this info, very kind of you. My Malaysian 1foot papaya seeds have arrived from the person whose contact you gave me. My concern now is would there be any problem planting then in this harmattan season considering our lower temperature in Bauchi used to drop to 15 degree celcius. Will they germinate in this temperature? |

EMMAACHILE: Like I told you before boss... Today we are going to pay for the land we leased in IMO state, it's supposed to be 20 hectares minimum but my surveyors would tell us the exact number I want to go with Lady Red but this vega is impressive with its number of fruits... Would definitely love to consult you even if it's paying Looking at irrigation pipes at allibaba, being a mechanical engineer ...im really looking for a way to do the irrigation at the cheapest cost... Would really love to work with u on this 1 Like 1 Share |
