AutoReportNG:
In 1997-1998, Apapa was adjudged as the golden local government in Lagos. This is due to the fact that the area and its environs are always neat and timely but now, Apapa LGA may rank as one of the dirtiest in the state.

For everyone who has been in Lagos for quite some time, Ijora-Badia won't be a new name to your hearings as you may at a point in time pass through this area either by car or by bus. For those who are not in Lagos, permit us to do a quick introduction of this area. Ijora-Badia is a rural area in Apapa-Iganmu LCDA, it has close boundaries with Apapa, Ajegunle, Oyingbo, Orile Iganmu and of course Amukoko.

Ijora used to be a bobbling city with lots of industries in its hay day. Industries like Michelin Tyres, Emel, Total, Mitsubishi Motors, also the headquarters of the 7up bottling company is sited at this area also around these areas.

Badia is a rural area and its estimated to have a population of 500,000 people living in this area but we can report that most of these areas in this city are mostly slums. A visit to areas like Abete, Arewa Street, and Lane among others, you can't but weep when you see the living condition of these people. It's so bad that these people live basically on dirt. Imagine going to visit someone and your host live in a canal. The house was made of plank, the plank was constructed on a canal (a slumpy area) and people built their houses over this canal neglecting the dangers thereof. There is a particular place called Ganganre and you can't but shed some tears when you see the human conditions of these folks. Imagine the kids playing around in these sort of environment.

AutoReportNG was at Obale Road. Obale is in Badia, it is closer to Church Street and it is one of the most densely populated area in Badia. We took a trip towards Railway popularly called "Oju Irin". Oju Irin, if you are coming from Gaskiya Road, can lead you towards National Theatre in Iganmu and also you can find your way in Nigeria Brewery office. We decided to pass through Obale Road to pass through the Railway leading to Iganmu but what we saw is a tearful event. We saw the conditions of Nigerians who live like destitute in their father's land.

We are privileged to have a guide along as we are going and according to our host, Oju Irin is notorious for cheap sex, drugs, and crime of all sort. The ladies are ever ready for any customer irrespective of the time and your fees. During our inspection tour, we noticed all series of activities in this slum, for example, we saw a woman cooking close to the canal and the food is not covered, we saw a young lady of about 13-14 years who was smoking her life away, she didn't even care if someone looks or not after all, that's their way of life.

Another thing is their makeshift toilet and bathroom, they used old zinc to make their toilet and bathroom but they dumped their waste inside the canal which is closer to them.

Words will fail us if we have to go into details of this area, this is not where you pray your enemies should stay.

As we continue on our trip, many questions were asked like, what is the state government doing to evacuate these people? They are under the Apapa-Iganmu LCDA, what has the chairman done to make life better for these people? This city pay tax at least some doe including the companies around this area, why has the government refused to fix their roads especially the Obale Road that leads to Ijora Oloye road.

While we expect reactions from the state government, we want to appeal for quick and urgent help for the people of this area. This area is nothing but a slum and a dent on the image of Lagos State Government.

For fear of attack and so as not to be noticed, we are unable to take as many pictures as we will love to but these few can help.

to be candid bro...I don't give a hoot anymore about people in Nigeria living like that...Now my reasons...

1) Most of the people living there are able bodied people with ok valid heads upon their shoulders just like me and you..

2) Most of them there crawl out to praise their slave masters, fight, assassinate, thuggery, intimidate and even vote.
3) Most hoodlums and diehard criminals are recruited from such slums..The question now is a politician with all the resources in the world to fix your life which is your fundamental human rights, will come to you recruit you and your wards to go and cause mayhem for peanuts, meanwhile commonsense must have eluded you to ask why..?.

4)As we speak now they are all registered party card carrying according to their slave masters and they are happy...According to them eko oni baje...The state has a blueprint that must not be altered....FYI they will kill u voluntarily if u argue otherwise...Even the OP alluded to that as part of the reason he couldn't grasp alot of pics.

5) The slums in Nigeria can be likened to DENIGRATION SITES OF THE ELITES AND SELF STYLED TECHNOCRATS...By the way even looters now call themselves technocrats no buzzing this is Nigeria!

There's no value for human lives in Nigeria, growing up in Nigeria i loved to help everyone i came across,my mum will even go and gift kids picked up and sent to media houses,we go to churches share clothes,food..,she will bring anyone home to join us,train them,we did what we could..But today i have decided to be selective because I'm wiser and i make my own assessment and judgment..Only vulnerable people out of uncontrollable circumstances can enjoy my benevolence Any be under my tentacles of goodwill.

Imagine in Ireland they don't even call their citizens who are drunk or sick homeless because it's derogatory, they call them rough sleepers. And even on the streets u still see government trying to get them off the street daily..Health workers, charity provides tenths and warm clothes..

Most of the brainwashed delusional zombies here aren't leftout...They see Npower as an employment, some are praying this barbaric horrendous government continues hoping they can save and marry with 30k..Only to end up in slums and u want me to pity them? No No! To be continued got to prepare for the day

never make a mistake of living with a Kwara man, Don't even live in a house you hear say their landlord is from Kwara. Those ppl are something else. I know of a compound where a Yoruba Kwara pour charms on her neighbours threshold so he could step on it. Smh

Some of us, including my humble self stay in upper middle class environs in ikoyi and we are igbo and haven't denigrated our environment. My humble suggestion? Don't be tribalistic, it earns you nothing positive.

Nigeria is not 19yrs Old. PDP and APC is not the cause of infrastructural decay in Nigeria.

However, we need total reformation and transformation standard of living in Nigerian.

Let us carefully select better candidate and avoid sentiments and tribalism as we vote. Thankyou.

"Pray not to..."? Not that simple.

My parents did "pray" not to raise me there but raise me there, they did.

They, however, told me I didn't belong there, that I was only on transit through Badia - one that would last two scores and 4 years; the period of which bàbá mi and màámi put one brick on another every other week until they made me and themselves a house in a place they "prayed" to raise me.

Goes without saying, I haven't lit a cigarette in my 30+ years, 24 of which was spent living in Badia.

Happy for you sir. This is the sort of orientation and motivation parents should work hard to instill in their kids. We should always strive to better our lots.

Did u mean to say 2 decades and 4 yrs which puts it a 24 yrs when u left badia

95% of people living there are from Yoruba tribe in particular (Kwara state). They live there because they don't want to pay rent for a decent accommodation. They have satellite dishes in most of those houses some even work. The place is dirty because the people are very dirty and lazy.

Everybody wants to live in Lagos, as such many will stop at nothing, not minding where they lay their heads at night.

Most times, we're responsible for our problems. How can right thinking persons choose and decide to build and live on a canal and thereby obstruct the free flow of water? How can?

The truth is, people will not stop coming, but the influx can be controlled with a good town planning scheme in place. Alas, this can only work in countries where leadership isn't self-centered and for personal gains.

The part in bold is a very big problem all over the country. We need to enforce our town planning scheme now or we'll end up with very complicated issues in the future. Lagos State government already have their cut out for them in order to put things right but other states still have time to do the right thing before urbanization make people build their houses anyhow and anywhere they want.
