Osimhen is preferable to Isaaac Success as a lone striker.

He really troubled the Ugandan defence.

Chukwueze and Kalu will now compete fo r the RW position.

On his(Chukwueze's) debut he had a man of the match performance. He created more scoring chances than Kalu, more of a team player and very good with right corner kicks.

Rohr does not rate Henry as we do here.

Our attack is ok for now. Ighalo, Success, Iheanacho Osimhen in that order can serve us for now.
We are also spoilt with options too on the flanks. Musa, Simon Moses, Kalu, Henry, Chukwueze in that order too.

Our defense is okay for now. I don't see us having a problem if they are all fit. Balogun, Ekong, Omuero, Awaziem, Ajayi, Ebuehi, Collins, Aina, Idowu. We are well covered here too.

Areas that need urgent fixing are
GOALKEEPING DEPARTMENT.
A young 3rd choice Goalkeeper is needed. Shouldn't be older than 24years.

MIDFIELD DEPARTMENT.
We need to recruit solid midfielders to be a backup to these guys. (Suggestions in the bracket)
Iwobi(Eze)
Ndidi(Philip Billing)
Mikel(will be hard to replace - Rohr and his scouts should widen their net)
Ogu-desent but aged
Etebo-epileptic player(today he is good, tomorrow he is a passenger)

The following players should either sit up or be excused from the team.
Iheanacho
Etebo
Idowu

Excusing them might do them a lot of good as they will see more reasons to sit up. Pampering them by handing them callups based on ancient time performance will not bring the best out of them.

It is so sad that these guys see the national team as their birthright. This will not only affect their international football output but it will turn them to lazy players at their respective clubs too. Imagine Rohr dropping Nacho. That boy will do anything possible to find his mojo back so as not to miss AFCON 19.

But Baba Rohr no de reason like that. He is a loyalist. Idowu's goal and performance against Argentina last year November is still the reason he is invited.

The National team should be competitive in all areas and no player should be indispensable. The 3named players have been given enough time and repetitive chances to redeem themselves but they have failed to do the needful and they don't seem worried.

I enjoyed the first half better than the second.

Ajayi and Ogu's pairing was OK. Akpeyi had nothing to do, not even a cross troubled him. His kits need not to be washed before he puts them on next time.

Ekong's introduction spoilt the buildup from the back we were enjoying while Ajayi and Ogu paired.

Standout performances.

Ajayi

Agu

Chukwueze

Kalu.

Nairaland Nigerian players awards, 2018.

Good evening house, now that we have seen all the matches for this year it is time to roll out nominees for various award categories.

Once again here are the elected nomination committee members: Tbaba1234, Icon4s, Forgiveness, Komekn, TheSuperNerd, Chriskels and Joebie.

Please house note that the discussions on the selection process would be strictly amongst these 7 monikers.

First off Committee members, do we discuss on this thread or create a separate thread for the selection process?
Let's get this sorted out first then we commence the players selection process.

Committee members we need your quick responses.

Although still public, a separate thread is a good idea to reduce distractions.

Osimhen provided a very solid aerial threat. I have not seen that for a while with the super eagles. I think both Chuwkueze and Osimhen showed that they have something to offer. I would like to see them against Seychelles.

The weakest part of the team is the midfield in my opinion.

Ogu needs to be converted to CB permanently for the SE. He can read the game well, is calm and composed on the ball, and can string decent passes. Plus he has a strong physique which may come in handy against hardy and tough African "jam body" teams.

At CB, most of his flaws including his slow pace, lack of flair and dribbling abilities, slow turning etc will be effectively masked.

Add to that the fact that we sorely need a left-footed CB to play in our 3 man defence formation (Omeruo has largely underwhelmed in that role), and you'd see my point.

Rohr really needs to reexamine his tactics. This idea of making unending aimless and ineffectual long passes from defence should be left for NPFL teams. If we are to achieve anything in the near future, that nonsense must stop.

Playing the ball out from the back shouldn't be such a big deal for us, especially considering the fact that many our defenders play in decent tactical teams in Europe. We need ball playing CB's. Ekong is particularly deficient in this aspect.

We will be playing highly tactical teams at the AFCON, the likes of Egypt, Tunisia and Senegal. Kicking balls high in the air aimlessly isn't gonna do us any good.

We finished the game with Success, Kalu, Onyekuru, Simon Moses and Iheanacho all on the field....

The only midfielder on the field when the whistle blew was Mikel Agu.

Abeg, what formation was that? Lol...

formation 4-1-4-1

Let us be honest, the Ugandan coach came here with a plan and executed it perfectly. Why the long balls from Nigeria still beats my imagination. The Ugandans are taller and more physical but yet we keep lobbing them high. The first half was better as there was some good build up play. I honestly would like to avoid this Ugandan side in the Nations cup for the following reasons
1. They are quite physical and will injure our players
2. They are really disciplined and very hard to score.
3. They know how to move the ball forward and if it happens during a counter attack then we might be hit hard.

That being said, I must say I lost touch with our pattern and plan in the second half to be honest. Kalu tried to take on his man but no support from his right back so he ends up with 3 defender. Ekong kept lobbing the ball to who I don't know. We need to really improve our short passes. Nations cup will really test our strength. This I will like to see.

Oh! Least I forget. Agu and the left footed kid put in a decent shift today. Better games to come

the Ugandan team came out as one of the best team in the Afcon qualifier .... they play 5-4-1 kind formation , i believe in a proper competition we will beat them , cos they will get red card with their style . those guys were too rough

I won't play both, you need a blend of attributes and both are ball hugging in style of play.
A direct musa type of winger n combination with a ball hugging winger on the other side will be ideal in my own opinion.
