To all those joking about Yakubu's age....please stop.

The average footballer in Nigeria starts playing around 18 years of age. By the time he reaches 25 years....he is broke, poor and owed several months salary. His club has zero good facilites, and not enough decent coaches, and etc.

So, the guy becomes 18 again, wangles his way into a Youth Squad, does well at a tournament....and all of a sudden he is playing for a big European clubside....and in one year earns the amount of money that playing 12 years in the Nigerian league won't reach.

The problem is our league is not well funded. Clubs cannot pay salaries, matches are poorly attended, and stadium and facilites are poor. And matchday fees are kept so low that most clubs canna make a living.

Those of you that are laughing...if you were footballers....you will lie about your age. And you will get that contract with Man Utd.

We need more investment in our footbal....from the rich and from the poor. There is no other way.


(And by the way, until I see evidence...actual evidence...the Yak is 36 years old today. Happy birthday sir. Thanks for your service).
