How much is it, please?

Good day fam, my visa was delayed in lagos embassy yesterday 19th October, 2018 and below is my transcript.
Please advise and correct my flaws. I'm open to any form cos am already sick. Though, I intend to reapply soonest.

VO' Hi, pass me your i20 and passport
Me- Good morning, here you go
VO- why are you going to the US
Me- In going for my master's degree in Sustainability management at Illinois institute of technology in Chicago
VO- How do you intend to pay for your tuition cos it's expensive
Me- I have been working for 3 years. so I have savings and my uncle who is a successful poultry farmer and also a major distributor of poultry farm products in Ibadan, Oyo State will cater for the rest
VO- even the average American citizen can't foot the bill
Me- told her well, with my uncles sponsorship and my savings, I can afford it. She didn't request for any bank statement or anything. She replied I'm ineligeable for visa.

You shouldn't have mentioned personal savings even if you have $50k in your account. Supposedly you have gotten a GTA that covers your tuition now, na different matter entirely. Pls don't give up, defer the admission and when next you go, mention a strong sponsor other than YOURSELF.

Pls do keep writing....We need to enlighten people. I belong to several GRE and MSINUS groups which are full of Indians and i have made lots of friends along the way. These guys are "go getters" their tenacity is quite infectious.

Infact i have found some study buddies among them and i have improved alot in my GRE study. I was targeting fall 2019 before into some low tier schools because i also have a 9-5 job in a tech firm.

But i have decided to push it to 2020 because most of the top tier schools funding deadlines have either passed or are coming up soon and i wont be able to meet them. Also my course of study isn't really in low tier schools which has to do with Tech Innovation. Another great factor is the time it offers me to be more embedded in more tech and community projects in the next 8 months which would strengthen my application.

My target schools are Boston University for their dual degree, Cornell University, University of Virginia and some other mid tier schools.

One thing i decided to do is to check out their requirements and understand what is required. I have 8 months from now to put my best foot forward. I have also identified some bias that can work on my behalf.

1. African
2. Female
3. In Tech (3 magic words that sells like hot cake right now) grin

Secondly, i have reached out to alumni's in my proposed program on linkedin for tips etc, I found out for Boston University the rate of Africans applying to that course is very low. Infact 2016 set just had 1 African a Sudanese.... Spoke to her and found out she didn't even have the "top notch GRE score needed" Same with a friend who just got into Harvard but diversity, etc played a part.

Indians: What people don't understand is that they are in competition with each other for admit spots. An Indian once told me they are held to a higher standard than others from other countries just because they are too many of them that are just as good. That's why you find an Indian who got 320 in GRE crying and saying how can he get 330 embarassed can you imagine?

Funding: The art of predicting every factor before it happens restrains anything from happening. I believe in taking a step at a time. You never know what can happen.

The inspiring story of how Koye got into INSEAD is a testimony to this among others https://www.bellanaija.com/2018/01/mogbekeloluwa-koye-ladele-shares-inspiring-insead-journey/

Another Great factor is: THE LONG TERM PLAN. Many Nigerians are very short sighted and they don't see the future nor the cycle change of leadership turning. The relationships, networks and pedigree etc can really do wonders for your future.

I am just encouraging people to make the best out of every opportunity that comes your way. Strive for the best as it plays out well in the long run. At least TRY! smiley

Baba please how do I join such groups, my gre is in few weeks time. Please help, thank you

Sire, I disagree; personal savings is not a weakness; a strong sponsor is fine too tho. Good personal statement plus sponsor is not a red flag. What about people that have dependents, some even seek F2 visas for them. Interviews are just too subjective that's all. And the school might be really expensive with no form of funded aid to supplement

No I don't mean it that way. You misconceived my opinion.. Now, let's assume his tuition and fees is $40k and he gets funding of $25k, do you agree that the VO would not question his ability to sort the rest of the cost even by Himself? All am saying is these VOs knows how it is getting a job for an average Nigerian that can cover the cost of thousands of dollars to go pay tuition for America. Are you telling me you have saved up to $40k in the last three years with your work? Then yoh will need to explain your salary breakdown to the even patient VO. In this case the VO doesn't have that quality.

That being said, I don't disagree with you that personal funds is a red flag once you can explain yourself in not too ambiguous manner. But its better to have a sponsor with good statements.. All other funds (personal) will definitely strengthen an application. Thank you

I don't agree with this. He has been working for 3 years. If he mentioned that he has saved up for this program, it is quite in place. I will advice that this candidate gives another shot at the interview and be sure that both statements of account sufficiently covers his i-20 amount with a little extra.

That VO elected to refuse him even without checking his statement to ascertain his readiness. Another VO may be lenient and chose to look at his statements.

GRE is not a few weeks preparation exam. Joining those groups at a time very close to your exam MAY be counter productive. This is just an advice, it's entirely up to you to decide.

You have said it all bro. Some VOs are naturally impatient so why does he have to hope that he meets a lenient one? It would be better if he could mention a strong sponsor as the one covering the tuition while his personal savings will cover his expenses.. How about that?

If only the insane and stupid Nigerians who want to leave through illegal route would just stop and make things easier for we the legal students!

It wasn't like this many years ago, now after a few exchange, you're denied. To enter administrative processing, na war. After entering AP, na still war and prayer.
It'd be well.

I think since the B1/B2 route has been made very draconian to go through, everyone automatically became students; making student applications very high and rejection rates higher, I don't believe everything I read. Although the denial rates are high but they might not be telling the full stories too, some people's application and interview might not be convincing at all even for you as a Nigerian to pity your countrymen and grant them a visa If you're in the VO's shoes. We still have success stories and more are definitely still coming...keep the fire burning

True.......also there’s a higher rate of fake documentations nowadays.... imagine someone coming to this thread to tell people to contact him if they need bank statement.what do u think will happen if they take that kind of Soa to the embassy?

Based on my thinking, It's not so hard to get the visa if one isn't lazy , those students in the article might not have done enough research before going for the interview ,most used agent and they act on exactly what the agent says , Imagine one of the V.O in the article saying he didn't believe the girl wouldn't be able to understand the saying of the professor in the class . Definitely the girl didn't work on her flaws before attending the interview like her ability to listen comprehend and understand before answering.

Well they should get introduced to NL , let's see if it's not gonna work out then .

Every Nigerian is a potential immigrant to every V.O . We should be the one to counter that

Hello Fam, I was denied an F1 visa twice between November and December, 2018. I had to defer my admission until SPRING 2019 to give me time to concentrate at work and to prepare better for a next time. Presently, i am awaiting the arrival of my i-20 which is on transit now from my school in the US so now preparing for my third and hopefully last F1 visa interview.

Now my question is this,

1. i paid my SEVIS fee last year (November, 2nd 2017) and I want to know if it will still be valid enough for me to use it for my new interview. I heard the fee expires after a year and in that case, it means mine should have expired. However, as we speak, I logged into the fmjfee.com website to review my SEVIS fee status and this is what saw:

Current Payment Status: Paid
I-901 TRANSACTION DETAILS

VIEW PAYMENT CONFIRMATION Date Received: 11/02/2017
SEVIS ID: N00274*****
Payment Type: Western Union
Payment Status: Paid
REQUEST TRANSFER Transaction: WWW1730******

Now does this mean my SEVIS fee is still active and can be used for a new interview?

2. Secondly, I noticed that the SEVIS Number in my last year's i-20 (from same school i applied to last year), is same as the SEVIS number in the new i-20 the same school just issued me last week (presently on transit). Is this going to be a problem? And then, can i transfer SEVIS payment from this number to this same number? (Note, the number for last year and the new i-20 on transit now are same. This is a bit confusing as i have not been on this cross road before).

Thank you all as I anticipate a response from you to guide my next step.
