That explains why projects takes 30 years to complete however small..dual road of 130,km from Lagos to some town 40yrs now is not complete..Berger Engineers probably have fathered adults in that route

Speaking of which how far has the Hoima/Tanga oil pipeline gone? I rmbr all the noise after M7 basically stiffed Uhuru 2 yrs back with Magufuli's connivance but can't find anything. Imo,they'll sooner rather than later pay for that and overestablishing oil infrastructure in the same region. IIRC that's why Russia pulled out.
A Russian consortium RT Global Resources, which was announced as the best preferred bidder for the financing and construction of the $4 billion greenfield oil refinery in Hoima in western Uganda, has walked away from the deal in unclear circumstances.

Also left unsaid is the fact that the Hoima oilfield which actually lie on L Albert may be on DRC territory in typical M7 style! LOOK!!

It aint happening soon. Constructing the world longest heated pipeline is no joke. Just like TZ gas - MZ is being too greedy - and want to leave investor dry & high. M7 wanted to prioritize oil refinery for regional consumption - but Oil companies want all oil put into the pipeline. Anyway so the final investment decision is still pending.

Oil was discovered in 2006 - and it may not be until 2026 for it to go production. Kenya which discovered it's in 2010 may go to production more quickly - esp if gov stick to deal btw Tullow & National Oil only.

In 10yrs - Nairobi will be at same level with JoBurg & Cairo - if not better. If public housing under Agenda 4 complement the private sector investment in real estate - Nairobi will be a world class city very soon.

True, the overall rate of which the real estate growth that being witnessed is Kenya is so unprecedented anywhere in Africa, in 4yrs time Nairobi will add four over 40flrs towers..

..Excitingly, the growth is balanced in all sectors, from residential, shoppingmalls, skyscrapers to highways and bypasses

In Nigeria, NECOM House(32flrs/160m) was built 40yrs ago and it's still the tallest building in Lagos/Nigeria

fool, do you even know that 98% of the land at Eko Atlantic has been sold out?.
these guys you mentioned are just the developers and they are been used by Nigeria mafias, in the likes of Tinubu, atiku, obj,Dangote, Dantata , Adenuga, and the rest .(plus where do you think they got the money from to embark on this large projects)
bellow are few of the current projects, (13 towers are close to completion)

Alpha 1

This is a Grade A 16 story office tower, which has floors of office space available for rent. Each floor measures 495.3 m (Net) and offers high grade quality office space, as well as other amenities in the building. Rent is available upon request.

Eko Pearl Towers

Eko Pearl Towers is a condominium style residential development comprising of 5 high rise towers, offering 2 and 3 bedroom apartments as well as penthouse type apartments. The first tower was inaugurated in 2016 and the second tower was inaugurated in November 2017. This development has shop spaces are available for sale (with the possibility to lease). There are currently 12 spaces in total, with more under construction. There are about 6 spaces available

Azuri Peninsula
Azuri Peninsula is a development offering a superlative lifestyle of beautifully crafted homes with extraordinary luxurious living in the heart of the Marina District. Nestled in the serene Marina District among some commercial and retail development, the apartments offered will be stunning. This development is currently under construction. The first phase, comprising of Marina townhouses, retail spaces and three residential towers will be delivered in 2020.

Sky Tower
This will be a luxury residential development on 20 floors, offering 2, 3 and 4 bedroom apartments for sale. This development is currently under construction.

Eko Energy Estate
Eko Energy Estate will be a 50 high-rise tower development of both residential, commercial and leisure facilities as well as logistical services geared towards the oil and gas sector. These developments will mainly rental properties when they are completed. The first 3 towers have progressed significantly.
Infrastructure
Developers at the moment are taking advantage of the opportunities the

Eko Atlantic city will bring in terms of infrastructure.
Eko Atlantic has the following laid-out infrastructure plan;
1. Independent 24/7 power supply
2. Water and waste water treatment
3. Fiber optic communication connections to every plot of land
4. Plots of land are delivered with connection to utility service
5. Elevated Street levels to accommodate basement parking above ground water
6. Building in a city specifically planned for medium to high density development
7. A 10.2km long waterfront promenade
8. 2 large marinas connected by an internal water-way.
9. Roads and Bridges will be built for high density use
10. City wide bus network
11. City wide canal network to connect with Lagos ferry transport system.

Other developments in the City will include: the Eko Shopping Mall, the Eko Atlantic School and a world class hospital.
An Independent Drainage System
Considering the challenge of flooding the main Lagos city has experienced over the decades, Eko Atlantic City developers have taken the conscious step to ensure that road systems within the City require an independent drainage network to ensure the evacuation of water off the road surfaces.
In order to be able to create an independent drainage network there needed to be a design for a canal system running throughout the middle of Eko Atlantic City. This canal system would receive all the water which flowed from the City’s roads into the underground drainage network. The solution conceived met all the criteria required for an independent drainage network.
As the roads are built openings are installed at regular intervals along the kerb-line allowing for the flow of water to enter the underground drainage network. Storm-water collected in this manner flows via gravity and discharges into the Eko Atlantic City canal.
The technology and methodology used in designing and installing the storm water drainage network in Eko Atlantic City adheres to best practices used worldwide.
It is important to note that the storm water drainage system in Eko Atlantic City is completely below street level. There exist no open drains anywhere throughout the City.
Financial Hub in Sub-Saharan Africa
Eko Atlantic City is also set out to become the strategic financial hub in West Africa and the entire Sub-Saharan African region, providing a conducive environment for businesses, multinationals and corporations to relocate their head offices.
The Business District encompasses a total area of 700,000 square meters. Along this sweeping avenue will stand mixed-use towers, turning the district into a powerhouse for corporate, financial, and retail activity.

It has the Eko Boulevard which is in the heart of Eko Atlantic City and is 60 metres wide and two kilometres long designed to typify Champs-Elysees in Paris, France and the Fifth Avenue in New York, USA.
The Boulevard will have an array of towers with an average of 35 floors, positioning it as the choice location for financial, business and economic activities.
Privately Funded Initiative
The Eko Atlantic City project which should be home to 300,000 residents when completed, is 100% privately funded by South Energyx Nigeria Limited the developers and city planners, and is a subsidiary of Chagoury Group of Companies.
Lagos State as a strategic partner for the Eko Atlantic City and is also supported by the Federal Government.
According to the Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode the Eko Atlantic City will provide over 500, o00 jobs and also serve as a veritable source of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for the State.
Also, notable international and national banks are also capitalizing on the opportunities in the project, some of them include;
1. First City Monument Bank
2. Guaranty Trust bank
3. First Bank
4. Access Bank
5. BNP Paribas Fortis

rvp20183:
Wake us up when that happens. Tanzania never really had a corruption problem like we do have in Kenya or Nigeria. I mean Nyerere never stole - he died a pauper. MKapa & Mwinyi were never really corrupt. Maybe there was nascent corruption under Jakaya Kikwete but it's nothing serious. Tanzania has never had problem with it's political stability or governance.

Your problems we have told you is the debilitating legacy of Ujamaa/communism that has bred an environment where personal advancement is frown upon & private wealth is discouraged. That philosophy is still manifested in all levels.

You need to really embrace capitalism. Start with land. Privatize all lands save for land reserved for public goods (road reserves, forests, parks). Improve protection of private property. Allow people to sell land freely. I know you fear Kenyans will come and take over you land - that is just irrational - Uganda has lot of arable - and nobody is taking over.

And then continue with privatization - build a private sector like we've done here and stop meddling in private business. Gov should facilitate private sector and should ensure there is stability in policy - don't wake up like Magufuli with sweeping changes everyday. That scare investors.

Once you've planted the seed of capitalism - Tanzanians will stop being lazy and jealous - and become hardworking & aspirational (greedy for success). US is the capital of capitalism and their work ethic is un-matched - people work 2-3 jobs for long hours - so they can live great lives.Kenyans also wake up early and sleep late because there is no community or gov or village to bail you out - you work or you starve - the more you work the richer you get.

Your other problems we have told you is very bad education where 90% of your kids end up in high school without the ability to write, read or speak English and they are expected to be taught complex stuff in English- the language of instruction. Your language policy has failed but you're stuck right there. You decide to go fully Kiswahili or English. Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Zambia, Zim, Uganda and name them - had these debates - and all decided English was the way to go. Dump kiswahili in phases and invite English teachers from Africa to come help your kids.
Tanzania had corruption although less than Kenya.Yes Nyerere wasn't corrupted but he didn't die a pauper.Mkapa was corrupt just as mwinyi and Jk.There are some mining companies which operated for 17 years without paying a penny into gov coffers.

Blaming socialism is a nosense. The effects of socialism in today's Tz are minimal.Uganda,Burundi,Kenya, and other poor African nations never had socialism but are poor! China,Vietnam, Poland etc are well advanced but they had socialism. Actually,Kenya got food aid from China.we don't discourage private wealth in Tz.The richest man in east Africa is a Tanzanian.

I really don't know why you are so obsessed with land.India have managed to achieve agricultural revolution without having white farmers! That is what Tz wants to do,to empower our people. We can have our own modern agriculture without having a lot of whites. If Kenyans have monies they can invest in Tz,we have some white farmers fromSA who are in sugarcane plantations (Illovo sugar). We don't fear Kenyans, but we block poor Kenyans who can't meet our investment policies. We don't need Kenyan peasants.

Tanzanians aren't lazy. But Kenyans are.FYI,no hardworking man can starve to death. There is no single Tanzanians who starved to death! But we have a number of Kenyans who starved to death. We are selling tons of food to Kenya daily.Don't bring a story of drought.Israel is almost a desert nation but they don't starve.Namibia too don't starve so as south Africa and even Egypt. No one died from starvation in these countries! But why Kenya??

Kenyans are lazy,Kenyans lack technological know how of modern farming. You failed to utilize your freshwater for irrigation!
Kenyan education is too theoretical.Knowing English can't eradicate your slums and starvation but technology will help.Kenya,Ghana,Uganda,Nigeria,Zambia and other African nation which embraced English wholeheartedly are still crawling. Most of these guys cant speak english properly but they are busy worshiping it!Pathetic.Malaysia,Singapore, south Korea,Japan,Germany don't worship English language but are too advanced.

Its true Tanzanians suffers by using Swahili in schools and use English in advanced stages. We need to use Swahili from nursery up to university. There many research which proved that learning in your mother tongue helps a learner to have a better understanding of a subject especially in science and maths.

Pictures please - Not PLANS. Eko City is dead. Nigerians are so poor they cannot fill the current office space in Lagos - leave alone in Eko City.

This Eko City is like's Kenya's Konza City - very slow progress.

Nairobi will never be a world class city as long as the population in the slums outnumber that of the rest of the city.
And your slums will never go until your government makes housing and the overall cost of living lower.

You're basically denying everything but at least the last point is home finally. You have a failed language policy that confuses kids and whose outcome we see in you - a thoroughly confused fellow.

You see Tanzania set out on the path of COMMUNISM (not socialism) - Kenyans told them they will fail -and but they refused to listen - only to finally admit it in 1985 when their gov became literally broke.

China & all communist states went through the same ordeal. China basically abandoned communism in 1978 and embraced market economy. Ethiopia was a marxist state for most of 80s - but let's focus on your beloved model China. In 1979 Deng Xioping starting reforms from Agriculture sector - he allowed Chinese to own private land - and food production shot through the roof.

Tanzania had through 60s & 70s deprived people right to own land and vested in on village councils - and there has never been any serious attempt to correct - village council still ran - land is still owned communical or through clan - and selling or acquiring land is long tedious procedure. The results is you're still a communist state now.

Tanzania has abundance of arable of land it should be exporting food the rest of world - not just starving - maybe no one has died - but you're malnourished, physically and mentally stunted - and according to Global Starvation Index doing worse than Kenya.

Now I know you want to talk about kenya. Kenya has it's own issues. Of course in nearly every index we are doing WAY BETTER than Tanzania.

What are our problems. We have corruption. Big corruption. Nigeria style. Enough said. This can be traced to decision by Gov in 1970s to allow civil servants to engage in business. The gov did this because they could not keep up with salary demands. They also thought civil servant elite would help loosen the Asian & White stranglehold of the economy. We largely achieved that but we brought the corruption monster home.

Our second problem is INEQUALITY/UN-EVEN DEVELOPMENT.Turkanas like you say live in stone age and so do many counties up North of Kenya. This again can be traced to 1960s - we decided we were going to use our meagre resources in high potential areas - we couldn't afford to spread development and end up like Nigeria or Tanzania - an equally undeveloped zoo. We also choose capitalism - which meant the business class grew richer than everyone else - and instead of investing in social welfare for the poor - we listen to WB - so called structural reforms - who told us to cut social spending and balance the budget.

And of course we had POPULATION EXPLOSION.That was a triple whammy that brought us down in 90s.

Slums started sprouting in cities. People outside so called high potential areas remained uncivilized. All our little plans just unraveled in 90s and kenyans started immigrating to US or Canada or South Africa in droves...the queue lines at US embassy were so long they stretched for kilometers. The economy stopped growing. People became desperate and hopeless. We started having power cuts. Infrastructure grumbled.Ethnic clashes that British had tamed in 1920s re-started as people fought for little resources. That was bad - but that is Nigeria normal.

Thankful we have now basically solved those problems. We have turned the corner.

Starting in 2003 - we re-invested heavily again in social spending - we are now practical a social state - with heavy spending on free education, healthcare, social welfare for poor. And secondly to deal with regional inequality - in 2010 - we enacted a new constitution based on devolution - now every region gets funding - and the last time someone in Turkana starved was 2010. Poverty in northern Kenya at one time affected 95% of the population - now it's sharply dropped to 65%.

We are also starting to see serious fight against graft - this year has been very good - and if we sustain we can start rolling back some of the damage from corruption.

As you can see we are fixing our issues - we changed our constitution - something you've been unable to do for 30yrs - just promises after promises - you are unable to change your education system (we are on our 3rd now) - you're unable to fully embrace capitalism & market economy - by unlocking the communally held land.

Kazikazi:

Nigeria is leading black Africa in so many progressive statistics.
The largest percentage (not just population alone) of Black African middle class citizens.

I couldn't help but notice how tiny Tanzania's middle class is. grin grin

OTanzania has a tiny middle class though.

Everything is always about Nairobi.

Even at that, just one section of Nairobi.

Whatever happened to Eastleigh (the economic and financial heartbeat of Nairobi)?

I watched a documentary of Nairobi on aljazeera and this was definitely the real Nairobi shown on TV. ( SMH)

Those are very old pics of Eastleigh, the Eastleigh of today is much more better than Lagos, "but somehow it looks like Lagos"

On polio risks, you need to always do your research before you make judgement...anway, in short, it's caused by Somali refugees there

Read the article. This has been an agelong culture among a particular ethnic group in Cross River state. It is not borne out of present day poverty. Unlike that of Kenya.

You are not doing well folks grin

The WPC is among a host of new accurate metrics like UNHDI, WB Human Capital,Legatum Prosperity Index etc,etc that properly capture human indices.
We're at target of 2.3 with escape number of 0.6,hmmm. could be better. The good thing is our most densely populated counties are on target for SDG and our poorest like Turkana have already turned the tide thanks to devolution.

RSA is surprising: 130.4 escape target with -2 current escape rate really should be better, but we've seen the problem.

Ghana has under 10% poverty and seems to have equalised target and current escape rate per hour with both at 26.5-good for you!

unbiased and worded. Bro you are more intelligent than the Kenyans here although they may write in fine English. I give it to you bro for flooring these Kenyans. I have been watching you offline with admiration and you floor them each time they attack your country.
It appears Tanzanians are more intelligent than Kenyans, I stand to be proven wrong.
Bravo bro! U are a strong man.

I think he doesn't understand that in Kenyans things are changing so fast for the better. Sonko has done a better job as governor than Kidero.

Easleigh - the little mogadishu - has really changed

Kenya Electric Transmission Company has filed an environment assessment petition to National Environment Management Authority seeking an approval to set up transmission lines along the Standard Gauge Railway, a move that will spearhead the electrification of the line.

“Ketraco, is proposing to construct 12 transmission lines and 14 sub-stations for supply of high voltage power to the Nairobi-Mombasa SGR line and the economic belt along the railway line,” Nema said through a gazette notice.

The design of the SGR rail line, which is now run by diesel-power locomotives, will allow for the design of a single electric line.....

In 10yrs - Nairobi will be at same level with JoBurg & Cairo - if not better. If public housing under Agenda 4 complement the private sector investment in real estate - Nairobi will be a world class city very soon.

Imo,that's rather optimistic;2030,def 2032 latest and it'll happen. As you said it all hinges on the success of the housing agenda.

Please, fix your low life expectancy before poking your nose in our affairs. The only thing that can cause somebody to sell their daughter is poverty.
