Hello house, I am a new member here.

My visa was approved at the Abuja embassy yesterday pending an account verification. I just checked my status now and it says refused. I am 100% certain that the account is genuine because i went with my uncle to pick it up at the bank. I also got a mail with the normal refusal letter to go pick my passport at DHL.

Please could this be an error or i should i call the embassy for clarification. Please who has been in my shoes before.

Thank you.

What class of visa? B1/B2, F1 etc
How good financially was the account?
If F1 What's the name of the school?
Cost of attendance
Bachelors or Masters
Details of your interview....
there could be several reasons..... shed more light on the situation.

Well it is my earnest prayer it changes to issued. If not, I don't really know how to categorize this kind of thing by the embassy really. Home ties BS after the whole interview?? Why not decide the persons fate there and then rather than giving somebori false hope
Not good enough. They should give another excuse pls. It can't be well with our leaders I swear.. Either in this life or the life after. Who will be going to those countries if things dey aiit here. Am vexed walahi embarassed

Please someone should help me before i go crazy

Relax bro. There is more to life than getting hypersensitive cos of America. That being said, what category of visa is it? Pray for a change in positive change, it might just be an administrative error as we have seeing in some cases here. If not, swallow the bitter pill and reshoot your shot.

Or probably the VO wasn't satisfied with the inflow and outflow of cash or there was a sudden lodgment of cash some days to the interview or the supervisor doesn't want him to give you cos I heard the senior VOs go through all applications again before visa is issued
Either well, just be calm and hope for the best

For those of you that can afford it and not minding the extra expenses and for 100% positive visa outcome, go and become a registered member of EducationUSA in Lagos or Abuja. Registration fee is $200. Every member of this agency are US embassy priority. They are the first class student visa applicant at the embassy. At least, as much as I am informed, I am yet to see an EAC member denied. Your Senators', governors' and commissioners' kids go through this route.
But to be eligible for membership, you must not have applied to any school at the point of registration; once the agency knows you have gotten admission yourself, they will not register you. There is also age limit: for undergraduate student, I think it is 20 (it was 21 as of 2009); for masters, it has to be under 28 or so.

Don't give up on your dreams.
God bless you all.

Thanks a lot for the information. Please, I have few questions to ask.

About the age limit, I'm within and eligible to register. But I saw someone who said they only register students with gpa of 4.0 and above for masters. How true is that? My GPA isnt up to that.

Also, after registering with $200, are they responsible for the mandatory tests you're to write and wes evaluation or you'll pay for those yourself?

More info about these would be appreciated. Thanks

Honestly, i am sureprised! There should be a reason why someone who was previously approved pending an account verification would be refused. I heard it is a normal thing with the US embassy. Hopefully, the status would change and all this would be an error.

I just checked their fees. It’s about $61k. Almost 22 million naira yearly minus feeding and medical insurance. I think that’s why u were denied. Even average Americans can’t afford this truly.

Please house help me scrutinize my proposed transcript.
VO: Pass your i20 and your passport
Me: <Passes> Good morning
VO: What are you going to do in the US.
Me: I am going for my masters in information science with a concentration in health informatics at the University of North Texas.
Vo: Why this program?
Me: HI encourages evidence based clinical practice and will help me develop innovative thinking to become a successful medical practitioner.
Vo: Where did you first learn about this school?
Me: I first learnt about the University of North Texas when doing a research on the best health informatics program in the US. I was attracted by its ratings in a reputable website like USnews.com as the seventh best health informatics program in the US. In addition it offers great value for money as it is the most affordable of all top 10 health informatics program.
Vo: Did you apply to any other school?
Me: Yes, I applied to three schools. Indiana University Purdue Indianapolis, University of North Texas and Wilmington University. The University of North Texas gave me admission, while Wilmington University are yet to make a decision on my application.
VO: Why UNT?
Me: I chose to apply to UNT because it offers courses in public health informatics, such as Community-Based Health Information and Disaster Management for Information Professionals. As a medical practitioner, my primary duty is to provide health care to people at the community level and this program will give me the opportunity to apply technology skills to improve patient care.
Vo: What is your schedule for this program
Me: The program has a total coursework of 36 credit hours. I will be taking 9 credits this semester and the remaining 24 credits in subsequent semesters. I will be taking courses in information and knowledge professions, information organization and medical informatics this semester.
Vo: What will this degree do for you?
Me: Firstly, since majority of my diagnostic tools employ high level technology, an indepth knowledge of how technology is applied to healthcare practice, patient care and diagnosis will enhance my clinical decision making. In addition, i will develop the skills to think critically about population level data and apply informatics approaches to address pressing public health issues, such as the integration of comprehensive care services for vulnerable populations in Nigeria, engaging populations in healthy behaviors using information technologies, regional and global health surveillance, management of very large data sets across the health system, comparative effectiveness analysis, and appropriate use of population health data analytics to influence public health programs and policies in Nigeria.
Vo: Why are you going to a different field?
Me: Health informatics is not a entirely a different field. It is a branch of medicine which allows professionals apply informatics theory and techniques to all areas of patient care. Moreover, in the first year of my undergraduate studies, i took a course titled "introduction to computing " and in my second year, i took another course titled "symbolic programming in Fortran". These courses have given me a foundation in information technology.
Vo: Did you take any standardized test?
Me: Yes, I took the IELTS exam.
Vo: Who is your sponsor?
Me: my dad.
Vo: Can i have his bank statement?
Me: sure.

I am still working on my responses. Your advices and opinions will be appreciated. Thank you

Well, I cannot confirm whether or not there is GPA requirement. To be sure, please visit the agency in Lagos or Abuja. It isn't that far from the US embassy. The $200 is mainly for membership. With the $200 you are eligible to use EducationUSA computers, library, access direct link to some scholarships your academic profile may be eligible for, and you will be able to network with students from top universities in the country, and even a few who come from US and Canada, etc to get their Master's/undergraduate admission through the agency. The membership certainly comes with a lot of opportunity you'll get to know and explore once you are registered. For the exams, you are required to pay for everything, including your WES, etc. I would encourage you to visit them one of those Wednesdays.

Good luck in your endeavours.

Don't conclude so soon. This could be system error as it once happened to a student here last week. But if it is actually refused, be strong and try again.
