It's actually $9 billion.

You forgot to mention your $47 billion serves 200M people while our $9 billion serves less than 50M people.

Maybe even less. Someone had just inflated Kibera population to 2M smiley and everyone ran with it. When census was done - only 170Km were counted there. Kibera the largest is barely 3km square.

The list of slums - include some measuring 2 or 3 acres - the list of Nairobi estates that are not slums is so long we need another 100 pages to go through them.

I only asked you to list slums in Nairobi ( not in Kenya) and your supposed its population estimation?

It coz our cities are planned and ZONAL laws strictly enforced. And we stopped building social housing. Nigeria cities are not planned..so the slums are not contigous like in Kenya. Nigeria has a more SERIOUS problems. Nigeria cities are mixed development - slum next to bungalow next to maisonette next to apartment next to office block next to an industry next to farm next to forest.

Our mess is easy to solve. Slums occupy 5% of land in cities - illegally built - we can easily upgrade the slums and voila we have modern cities.

Now Nigeria - entire cities would need to be demolished - then zones established - then new city built from the scratch. Only Abuja would be spared...but generally speaking you will have to build more Abuja (completely new cities) and hopefully keep strict zonning laws.

This is the mess you're talking about nigeria - 95% of SLUMPOLIS - built by legal owners of the land in all shapes and manner- compared to temporary structures in our slums built along valleys & rivers - that can be demolished or upgraded easily.

I'm on that same link about Abuja and OMFG!? As always you were on point.

In Jabi, Utako, Garki, Katampe, and Asokoro which are all within the 250 square kilometers of the capital city, slums are situated around elegant houses and infrastructure.

This website observed that the suburbs, such as Kubwa, Nyanya, Karu and Lugbe have all been taken over by slums.

That is a big ask.I am sure I can get some data - with 2009 census - and projected to now.
In Nairobi - the big 5 ones - Kibera, Mathare Valley,Mukuru, Kogorocho and maybe Soweto & Kawangware. Each occupy anywhere btw 1-3Kms square. They are not expanding. The got pretty much squeezed.

2009 census - Nairobi biggest slums.
1)Kibera - 170K
2)Mathare Valley - 90K
3) Mukuru "slum complex" - >100K (with mukuru kwa Njenga holding 66,505)
4) Korogocho "slum complex" >100K
5) Soweto & Kawangware slums host maybe 50-100K each.

The rest are very tiny.

Each one of those I can average will hold 100-200K people - give and take Nairobi slums houses - 0.7-1M people lives there. Nairobi has about 4M people or more now... That is about 20-25% of Nairobi.

Yeap if they've let Abuja denegerate into a slum - then they can't be helped. It takes strict enforcement of zonal and building code to prevent a city turning into huge slumpolis like Kinshaha and Lagos.

I think as part of housing agenda - gov need to get figures - of urban poor - and hopefully the census next year will provide the answer. And we can start investing again in social housing and slum upgrading. Obviously slums will not be eliminated as long as poverty remains so this a stretch goal....but Nairobi can eliminate the worst of the slums in a decade if it invest in serious housing schemes.

That is why they are regressing. Even slow Tanzania is making some progress. Nigeria continues to regress every day.Kenya has turned the corner and South Africa will in a decade start worrying about her.

hHHhahaha grin grin grin grin Kenyans still trying hard to fault Lagos, you guys cant change the fact that Kenya is the capital slums of the world.
the first and the second pics you posted is in an area called marina and the pics are old you should type " Lagos Nigeria Marina areal views" on YouTube, its the first CBD OF LAGOS and mind you marina is much more wider and developed than your so called CBD,
secondly, Half of makoko slum has been demolished and new housing projects known as "Ilubirin Housing Scheme " is ongoing ..
lastly, the other pic (with many buses known as molue) is in on mainland Lagos (Oshodi), and its very old pics, you need to check out new oshodi, its beyond your imagination man.
First pic- Lagos Marina view
Second pic- Marina Land (street views)
third pics- new oshodi pics
fourth pic- ilubirin housing estates (parts of Makoko slum)

You got jokes! grin grin Lagos to deliver 472 units Ilubirin housing scheme next year. Clearly at that rate you'll never move forward. grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

I mean in Kibera alone we did 3,000 units...

And now Kenya in next five years will deliver 500,000 UNITS of HOUSING. That gov part - and it already funded by tax deductions.

Something is wrong with you nigerians. No wonder you can only get 1 or 2 pictures to support your thesis.

472 units is something a private developer can do alone.

The problem - YOUR MINUSCULE BUDGET & NON-EXISTENT TAX BASE mean there is really no money to pay salaries & recurrent expenditures leave alone develop Nigeria.

Very daft analysis, and you think 472 units is the only projects going on at Makoko or even lagos at large, makoko is not like hundreds of your slums, the place keeps shrinking day by day while new slums keeps springing out in Nairobi .
Man,i just went through your government website to see your claims i found that your government has done little in upgrading slums in Nairobi, they have only built less than 1500 houses in the whole of the country in the course of 15 years for a country known to be having the largest and highest numbers of slums in the world. cry cry cry cry cry

Surely without being biased, the situation in Nigeria is seemingly getting worse by time

2/3 Lagos residence are slum dwellers that translates to over 7million people, and the number is increasing by seconds

Trying to tackle it with few hundreds of units is like a drop in the ocean
