Saraki, Dogara and PDP have been screaming to their lungs that trademoni is a sophisticated form of vote buying despite been in the budget. Apparently, this was what Saraki meant when he told his supporters that he no longer had access to money as he was probably hoping that his state share of the tradermoni would be handed to him so that he could use it to ensure loyalty from is followers, alas, the FG is handing the money directly in the hands of the traders.

The budget national assembly is about 150 billion. that will cater for 15 millions low income traders.

Lets put this in perspective. A national assembly of less than 1000 people have an income that 15 million traders have to take as loan which they have to pay back whereas the national assembly members do not have to pay their own back.

Vote buying indeed.

They'd want the money handed to them for the real vote buying. TradeMoni is a campaign promise and nobody should dictate to the FG how or when to do it. If it hadn't been done, they would be wailing to high heavens that Buhari has not fulfilled his campaign promises.

Don't be deceived; all those shouting against Buhari have one thing or the other being blocked from them.

as much as the NAss budget needs to be reduced, sharing billions of naira in the name of helping businesses & the poor is not the way forward.

it simply reinforces the culture of handouts & dependence on government for freebies. it's very similar to the almajiri system which encourages laziness & relagates hardwork, initiative & entrepreneurship...

is it sustainable in the long run? no. then why encourage it...

well, like someone said, it's their policy, they should continue.

With all your education you still miss the part that designates trader monie as a loan that is repayable.

The only part you can call free is the about 500 naira interest they don't have to pay.

And these are the category of traders no bank will give even 1,000 as loan, they are the ones loan sharks collect 15% per month for any loan or credit. And you think interest free loans will not lift a tidy number of them from the depths?

Yes. I hope you don't mean "welfarist" in derogatory sense.
The best countries are welfarist - Norway, Sweden, et.c.

For the first time, poor traders have access to loans. This is very good and will do the economy good. Access to loans is financial inclusion. They will open accounts, get ITIN nos, have access to credits. The government is starting a "People's Bank" soon. I have often boasted that Nigeria has at least 10 million Dangotes. We will soon start seeing them.

Most people welcome lies in Nigeria.
Loans to struggling low income people traders are now handouts..but your Senate President spoke about allocating jobs to give out free contracts and you did not complain.
Everybody's brains in Nigeria is stir-fried and the embrace of LIES is unbelievable. Nigerians are the most hardworking peop,e in the world. What was lacking was "financial inclusion". All credit facilities were going to the richest 1% of Nigerians. Their average age was 55 years.
How can Nigeria lose with credit going to young traders and farmers with average age of 30?

I mean think, don't just vomit empty right wing economic ideology.

You need education...

I sure need you to educate me on how fair you think it is that this senator who is in prison is entitled to 85.5 million, an amount that can serve up to 8,550 tradermoni while a trader's 10k loan is a problem for some of you.

Six months after his conviction by a Federal Capital Territory High Court, The Nigerian Senate still pays Senator Joshua Dariye allowances to the tune of N85.5million.

In a report by The Punch, Dariye is still receiving the N750, 000 salary and N13.5m monthly running cost from the National Assembly.

Investigations by The PUNCH revealed that Dariye, who represents Plateau-Central Senatorial District, was still receiving the allowances because his seat had yet to be declared vacant by the leadership of the National Assembly.

Dariye, who was governor of Plateau State from 1999 to 2007, was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and convicted by Justice Adebukola Banjoko of an FCT High Court for embezzling N1.162bn.

He was subsequently sentenced to 14 years in prison, but his sentence was reduced to 10 years by the Court of Appeal which upheld his conviction last month.

The ex-governor had even made a non-refundable payment of N8m for the All Progressives Congress’ Senate forms but was screened out by the party in September.

An aide to Dariye, Mr Christopher John, said the convict and his aides were still receiving their full allowances.

He said Dariye had appealed his conviction at the Supreme Court and it would be unfair for his seat to be declared vacant when he had not yet exploited all legal channels.

John said:

“He has already appealed the case; so he is still a senator pending the decision of the Supreme Court.

“It is right for us to still be receiving salaries because his case has not ended. There are many other senators having issues with the courts like Senator Attah Idoko from Kogi State. Judgment was given in favour of AVM Isaac Alfa but since Idoko has appealed the case, he is still serving and attending sittings as a senator pending the outcome of the case.

“Aides should still be receiving salary because Dariye is still a senator. And he is still receiving his allowances and will continue to do so until the case is closed.”

The Special Adviser to the Senate President on Media, Yusuph Olaniyonu, said he could not confirm if Dariye was still receiving allowances or not.

Olaniyonu, however, said the former governor’s seat could not be declared vacant until the leadership of the Senate received official communication from the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation.

When asked if the Senate was not aware of the highly publicised conviction of Dariye, Olaniyonu said the legislative arm of government does not act based on media reports but on official communication.

He said:

“The Senate President has no power to declare any seat vacant except he is presented with a request. We have to receive official communication from those who prosecuted him. We cannot read a report in the newspapers and go ahead to declare his seat vacant.

“Even if a senator dies, his family would inform the leadership of the Senate or senators would go and pay a condolence visit and officially confirm that he is dead and then the Independent National Electoral Commission will be notified that the seat is vacant.

“Those who convicted Senator Dariye never informed us that he had been convicted. In fact, we even read that he bought the APC ticket to contest for re-election. The AGF prosecuted him and he ought to write the Senate so that the seat can be declared vacant and another election conducted.”

But the Director for Information at the National Assembly, Mr Jerry Agada, said there was no court order or directive from the Senate President to stop Dariye’s salary and so it could not be stopped.

Agada said it was possible for Dariye’s salary to be withheld pending the outcome of the case in court but the National Assembly Commission had no such powers to stop it.

He said:

“The procedure of the National Assembly is that a person’s seat must be declared vacant before he is no longer a senator. Based on the latest information we have, they said he had taken the matter to the Supreme Court.

“On our own, we have no power to stop the salary or allowances of any senator whose seat has not been declared vacant. Our intention was that his pay would be put on hold pending the outcome of the case but do we even have such powers?

“He remains a senator in the eyes of the law. It is not a matter of morality now but a matter of law. The power to declare any seat vacant resides in the Senate President or the Speaker.”

If much richer Countries like the UK can look after their poor, with free benefit payment of around N2 million per person for rent and personal allowance every month, are you not a very wicked person, totally blinded by hate, with your suggestion that a N10,000 loan to empower the poorest Nigerians is somehow wrong?

So it is better for this money, now benefiting millions, to be shared amongst a few PDP leaders as was the case for 16 years of PDP rule? Go and get an MRI. You might be surprised you heart is totally black with hate given some of the evil and wicked things you come out with because of a primordial hate of others that leaves you unable to give them credit for thing never seen in the history of Nigeria that is now helping the poorest Nigerians get more out of life.

You are evil. If not you would support your Atiku jejelli and not attack something benefiting ordinary Nigerians who have not benefited from their own commonwealth because of the likes of Atiku, Saraki, Fayose et al you worship. This is why you and your god Atiku will lose miserably. Nigerians are now noting the PDP is not and will never be about the interest of the common man with the 'tradermoni is bribe' talk from the likes of Atiku, Saraki, Dogara, PDP leaders and their supporters like you. You lot are dense olodos and continue shooting your own foot off because hate has destroyed your ability to reason effectively and productively. Does commonsense not make it clear you PDP hate machines will only lose the masses knocking what they are benefiting from and arrogantly calling it a bribe that should be be taken away?

Call us what you will but your political naivete is obvious and shows your lack of critical intelligence despite the desperation to pontificate otherwise. Anti-people talk, policies and actions only lose Politicians support worldwide with the biggest voting bloc i.e average men and women. This is a simple and historically verified empirical fact.

Teresa May , UK Prime Minister, did badly in the last election against Jeremy Corbyn, the labour leader many predicted she would kill off easily, because she propagated policies favouring the rich and punitive against the common man while Corbyn sided with the people through policies, like free university fees, that resonated loudly with ordinary Britons. The rest is history as Corbyn went on to do really well given many had predicted he would be finished and retired after the election. Lesson being that never openly go against the people. Something the arrogant PDP and its fans are too dumb to note.
