yh it has nothing to do with ranking but it is good for onpage seo and also site speed depends on the theme and not the favicon because I have a site with favicon and has a load score of 96 according to google pagesite speed(the new one which makes use of chrome to check speed)

I will say yes because the file name of the favicon can be keyword optimized. Just like alt text for pictures affect seo as emphasized by yoast plugin. I am not an expert pls dont shoot me

I can't comment on SEO or not, that's not the main point. It's all about branding. Favicons are usually 16px by 16px, so how a 2kb file will affect your page speed is what I really don't know. However, it's more for branding. Imagine opening 30 pages on your browser which all of us everyday, the favicons makes it more easier for an audience to find your website in a crowd...A unique identifier.
