Boring as how? You like the annoying UI difference when ever you jump between MIUI apps n play store apps? Biko I value my peace of mind, newbies assume that because a Xiaomi phone is available on AliExpress then it must have official rom, only to find out later it's shop rom. Abeg peace of mind with boring Mi A series>>>>>>>>> anything below other Mi series(me being generous)

So am a newbie because of my own personal choice?

This really shows you are even the newbie here 'cause if you are not, you will know that chances of you getting a shop ROM installed for you is if there is no global version of the phone produced officially from Xiaomi.... And Xiaomi doesn't market those phones outside China. I only know of three phones without global version; Mi Mix 3, Mi 6x, Redmi 6 pro

So if you end up buying a phone with a shop ROM , that means you didn't do your research well thus making you the 'newbie'

My tracking info says held by customs, what do I do?

Update - So I saw my parcel at the Post Office today and the charge from custom is 11,800. Customs valued the phone at 70k. Phone of $49 o.

What can I do?

Just pay or leave it there and open dispute on Aliexpress?

Dispute will not solve anything... When it's not as if you didn't receive the product

The problem is between you and your country, that one no concern aliexpress

You will need to pay them

Anything different from 954_GENPACK or something related is a shop ROM.. Some original ROM do have 650_GENPACK also

So if you are seeing anything completely different from the above, its a shop ROM. It's what I have personally seen everywhere; others can share their experience if they have something different

This One Nko?

How to identify the official stable ROM
1. It must have seven MIUI version letters
e.g NDACNFI
Anything more or less is an unofficial ROM from Xiaomi

2. The fourth and fifth letters must indicate the ROM
CN = China
MI = Global

3. It must not indicate more than four numbers for the miui version
E.g 10.1.1.0
Anything more than this indicate an unofficial ROM. E.g MIUI 10.1.1.0.96

4. Also, if the release number is high. It can also indicate an unofficial ROM.
E.g MIUI 10.1.1.96

5. Baseband version can indicate the status of the ROM. Those starting with TA are unofficial ROM.

However, baseband version can be confusing. Mine starts with MPSS.TA. numbers numbers numbers and I have been receiving updates via OTA and nothing has happened to my device. I am currently on MIUI 10.1.1.0

This is my own research. The house can agree with me or correct me where necessary especially the number 5 point. Thanks.

Most times the other parameters are correct... But guys like Fibonacci, Gptech and Grandmufti will just look at the baseband version and give accurate verdict. Please you folks should highlight on this. Thanks. We want to be like you all

AFAIK all baseband versions starting with .TA are fake/shop rom, have not seen any evidence stating otherwise.

Very interesting review.
Who noticed that no Xiaomi phone got any big mention as such?
That is, apart from budget (Pocophone).

Also that Huawei mate 20 pro must be so badass.

Any chance he was bias in anyway?

These people are not fans of MIUI, pocophone got the accolade because of its price to performance ratio. It's ridiculously cheap.
