FIGHT AGAINST INSURGENCY: NAF WINGS NEW UAV PILOTS, IMMORTALIZES LATE SQUADRON LEADER BABA-ARI IN MAIDUGURI

As a mark of honour for the supreme price paid by Late Squadron Leader (Sqn Ldr) Muhammed Bello Baba-Ari, an experienced fighter pilot who died on 28 September 2018 while participating in the aerial display rehearsals for the 58th Nigerian Independence Day Celebration, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has named the newly commissioned Pilots’ Crew Room at the Headquarters Air Task Force (HQ ATF) Operation LAFIYA DOLE in Maiduguri after the late senior officer. The ultra-modern Pilots Crew Room Building, which houses a briefing room, computer room/library, pilots’ life-support room, lounge, recreation room, kitchen, 3 bedrooms for pilots on standby as well as several restrooms, would go a long way in adding value to the fight against insurgency and bolstering the morale of officers and men in the frontlines. The ceremony, which took place in Maiduguri today, 18 December 2018, also witnessed the commissioning of a newly constructed HQ ATF Extension Building as well as the winging of 5 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) pilots, in furtherance of the capacity building initiatives of the current NAF leadership.

The CAS, who expressed satisfaction with the progressive performances of the ATF against the insurgents, especially during the last Operation GREEN SWEEP, further charged the Task Force to reciprocate the various welfare enhancements by dealing harder and more effective blows against the remaining elements of the Boko Haram insurgents with a view to completely eliminating them. He reassured the troops of NAF support, particularly in providing what they require to prosecute the war, as far as the prevailing national economic realities permit. Air Marshal Abubakar also thanked the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buahari, for his overwhelming support to the NAF towards the achievement of its desired goals. He pledged the resolute commitment of the Service to the successful execution of the ongoing counterinsurgency efforts. He also specially appreciated the SGOH and former CDS for his presence at the event while noting that the enviable status of the NAF was attributable to the legacies he and previous Chiefs had built in the past.

NAF is busy winging new UAV pilots and in their own magazine and press releases they have confirmed the purchase of UCAV from UAE (yahbon flash 20/40) and months ago Tdayof even claimed that he has access to pictures of these drones at Markurdi... so is this secrecy due to the controversial nature of armed drones or is NAF havin technical issue with attaining operational status/capability

CAPACITY BUILDING: CAS CHARGES PERSONNEL TO BE INNOVATIVE IN THE DISCHARGE OF DUTIES

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has charged personnel of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to be innovative in the discharge of their duties. The CAS gave the charge during the combined graduation ceremony of 277 personnel of Sundry Courses at Military Training Centre, (MTC), NAF Base, Kaduna yesterday, 21 December 2018. The CAS, who was represented by the Chief of Administration NAF Headquarters, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Kingsley Lar, while congratulating the graduands for completing the various courses, further charged them to apply the skills and knowledge acquired during the course to tackle future challenges.

The CAS also reiterated that the Service would not accept anything less than the standard already established in terms of loyalty, discipline, professionalism and performance. He therefore implored the graduands to uphold these high standards. The CAS also reminded them to remain apolitical and concentrate on their constitutional mandate of providing security of lives and properties for the citizenry. Additionally, he commended the Commandant MTC and his team for their tireless efforts and dedication to duty.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Commandant MTC, Air Commodore Paul Masiyer, while expressing appreciation to the CAS for his policy direction and infrastructural development in the Centre, stated that MTC runs 2 categories of sundry courses, which are basic and upgrading non-technical ground specialist courses. He noted that the courses undertaken during the period included the Initial Personnel Administrative and Management Officers Course, Air Police Special Investigation Course and Air Police Basic Course. Others are Advance Music Course, Basic Military Band Course, Basic Physical Education (PE) Course, PE Supervisory Course, Admin Upgrading Course, Military Instructors’ Course and Integrated Basic Clerical Course. Dignitaries at the graduation ceremony included the Air Officer Commanding Ground Training Commanded, AVM Idi Amin, as well as other senior officers.

The Nigerian army is a voluntary organization, no one forced anybody to join the army...during the government of GEJ, did the APC criticise the military or not? The Nigerian army is filled with men that are ready to fight IPOB, shites and other unarmed civilians.

I will never believe it's because of people criticism that soldiers drop their weapons and flee each time they hear boko not to talk of haram. A lot of guys in the military never joined to serve but to intimidate civilians, most of them have no passion for the military, most of them prefer to run than to fight...The Nigerian news media will keep on publishing and talking about what is happening in the north east.

It was not the News article that said it, it was the brigadier general that said it, he was just saying that to save face... How does Nnamdi kanu rant prevent the army from crushing an unarmed IPOB, if IPOB is an armed group the military is struggling against, one General will come out and tell us it's what nnamdi kanu is saying.

In fact, I think the reason barbed wire was used in melete was to keep the soldiers from fleeing, the massive corruption ruining the fabric of the Nigerian society has an effect on the Nigerian military, most of the soldiers are not ready to fight and die for Nigeria.

One day Trump might also tell us he didn't perform up to 100% cause of rumours CNN is spilling.

What some of you guys don't get is this, without the same soldiers you keep calling cowards, We wouldn't have a country called Nigeria today.
The only entity that has held BH at bay is that same military, so if they run from fighting BH, then please explain who is keeping BH from marching on Abuja and hanging the President and other elected officials?
You can't have it both ways.
I've criticized some of our troops when they lose or run from the enemy, but that's just a fraction of troops deployed, there are units dealing decisive blows to BH on a regular basis, therefore we shouldn't generalize and call all our soldiers cowards and only able to beat civilians, that's ignorance

Truth is our soldiers are more than foolish. They are also very corrupt and very very very incompetent. The only time they become powerful is when they face unarmed people. Otherwise ,if you give my grandma a gun she can go toe to toe with them.

Id1ots like you are unable to see beyond your noses. You feel it is ok for the Shiites and Biafrans to be killed like chickens by the very people that swore an oath to defend them. What you are unable to realize is if the army can mete out such unwarranted brutality on unarmed Shiites, there is nothing stopping them from doing the same thing when the rest of the citizens protest over governmental policies. Would you be praising the Nigerian army if it were fuel price increase protesters that it just willfully massacred?

Another thing, the presidential guard are supposed to be the elite of the elite. Seeing just how brutal, and bloodthirsty they are the Nigerian army has a very very long way to go. Right now, even the Chadian army can wipe the floor with us.

Lastly, it appears the army learns absolutely nothing. And I mean NOTHING. The more Shiites they kill the more martyrs they create. These killings lead to more and more anger among the Shiites and God help us if they choose to go the Boko Haram route.

Finally, that guy with the flag near the end of the NYTIMES video is one very courageous Shahid. He stood there, raised their flag and showed his defiance. He is of course dead by now courtesy of lead poisoning but compares with such icons as the Tank Man and Faris Odeh. May he rest in very perfect peace.
A sentimental comment.

Morals get dampened because these soldiers don't seems to have capable leaders.
Pay these guys more money, have disciplined leaders in charge of units and give them the tools they need to get the job done, and of course reduce the duration of their deployment, Jeez, 4yrs? That's insane . Soldiers need to have breaks btw deployment.
I still think the welfare of these soldiers aren't prioritized, and if you don't take care of them, what reason do they have to fight and die for people who don't give a damn about them?
This is a time of war, and last thing any military formation need are soldiers who will simply lay down their arms and run and never to be heard from again, such soldiers should get life imprisonment, such actions aren't good for the overall well-being of the military.
In combat, you need soldiers you can rely on, that's important, it's a matter of life and death.
So to those that can't stand the heat, don't join in the first place ( We all know it's not an easy ask or Task, being a soldier). Nigeria has enough young men that will join and fight, but their welfare should be priority, above all else
As for the political jargon that's been going on here, chill guys

Let's pray that what happened to the Iraqi military does not happen. I'm for adequate welfare for soldiers at the battle front as it helps to boost troop morals.
If there are senior officers found embezzling funds meant for such purpose, they should be systematically relieved of their post.

That's the last thing we need right now.
