NAF AIR STRIKES NEUTRALIZE ARMED BANDITS’ HIDEOUT WEST OF TSAMARI IN BIRNIN MAGAJI LGA OF ZAMFARA STATE

The Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation DIRAN MIKIYA has successfully neutralized an armed bandits hideout at a compound West of Tsamari in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara State. The attack was conducted at dawn on 28 December 2018 following intelligence reports indicating that the compound was being used by the armed bandits as a camp from where they launch attacks against innocent civilians.

Accordingly, the ATF detailed a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft, which confirmed the presence of bandits armed with high calibre weapons at the location. Consequently, an Alpha Jet aircraft was dispatched to strike the compound, recording direct hits on the target area and resulting in significant damage to the structures and neutralization of some bandits, as later confirmed by credible human intelligence sources. Surface troops later invaded the compound and recovered some motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing criminals.

The ATF, working in concert with surface forces and other security agencies, will continue to conduct reconnaissance and air interdiction missions with a view to restoring normalcy to the affected States in the Northwest.

That's an MI-24V not an MI-35p.

The MI-24V from Ukraine has a quad-barrel 12.7mm chin mounted gun.

The MI-35p which we also have has a double barrel side mounted 30mm cannon.

So, the Russian is actually correct.

At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter as none, not one of those aircrafts we have in considerable numbers.

The export variant of the MI-24 is not necessarily the MI-35.

If you buy from Russia, yes.

If you buy from Ukraine, No.

Base on my analysis the main differences are:

Mi-24v - is design wit a Chin mounted quad-barrel 12.7mm main gun

MI-35p - has a side mounted dual-barrel 30mm main gun

MI-35m - also has a Chin mounted dual-barrel 23mm main gun.

MI-35m & MI-35p are both from Russia.

Mi-24v is from the Ukraine which his the export variant of the Mi35

Both the Mi24 and Mi35P are in service with NAF

You’re right about the differences but you didn’t look at the bird in the pic properly, there’s no chin mounted gun. But if you look at the side you can see the holding bracket for the twin barrel cannon
Pic 1 and 2 Mi35p
Pic 3 Mi24v
Pic 4 Mi35M

You're correct on the actual spotting. That's an MI-35p from Russia.

I can now see the bracket for holding the double barrel 30mm.

Sorry to say this BUT WHEN NIGERIAN SOLDIERS WILL STOP POSTING PICS HERE AND THERE I GUESS THEN THEY SHALL BE ABLE TO DEFEAT BH(JOKE).BUT on a serious note 2018 has been a terrible year for Nigerians Army. Their hierarchy NEVER NEVER NEVER draws hard earned lessons (with the lives of gallant and vibrant soldiers) from defeats and set backs. No Dismissal of those who were in chain of command during the set back, no questioning on current tactics and strategy to improve, a deaf ear on complains from soldiers and commandants on the ground ETC(I can go on and on for hours). Am a Cameroonian who is a FAN of NAIJA military but seriously you guys are becoming a JOKE in AFRICA. The Nigerian Military Hierarchy should sit up and be up to the task. NoBI lack of money Be the problem but lack of ACCOUNTABILITY to the POLITICAL AUTHORITIES. In Cameroon though not perfect and under a so-called democracy which is in fact a dictatorship the military learns and adapts and even copy from the enemy.THE NIGERIAN ARMY HIERARCHY SHOULD TRY AND LEARN THAT BUYING OF NEW PLANES MILITARY HARDWARE AND GUNS WON'T WIN THE WAR BUT A PRECISE AND ELABORATE STRATEGY IN SYNERGY WITH THE TROOPS ON THE GROUND AND THE LOCAL POPULATION WOULD DO THE JOB . The Nigerian Military is far better than ANY MILITARY IN THE REGION but your Hierarchy Keeps failing the troops on the ground. I grieve for the lost of this young and vibrant men because of the top brass who behave with lack of humanity and concern to the cries of those on the ground. Sincerely if NOTHING IS DONE I FORESEE HARD TIMES FOR THE NIGERIAN SOLDIERS IN 2019. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU GUYS AND MA GOD BLESS THOSE WHO ARE FIGHTING ON THE FIELD AGAINST THOSE .....LACK WORDS TO DESCRIBE THEM

No need typing in capital letters, it makes reading your comments difficult.

On the Baga issue, well, not just the Nigerian army, but Cameroun and Chad included. grin grin

On a more serious note, I agree with you, the Nigerian army has now turned into a big joke. Nigerian troops need to all be banned from social media. They need to concentrate on learning how to fight. They have proven to be very disgraceful over the last 6 months, getting to 7 months now.

It however is no co-incidence. I started noticing this with the wide-spread indispline in the rank and file of the military when soldiers were allowed to dress however they like.

The Nigerian army only has 2 standard camouflage patterns, one for desert and one for woodland.

However over the last couple of months, i began to notice that some Nigerian soldiers now wore a Nigerian woodland or desert camouflage with a military T-shirt from Cameroun.

When i noticed this, i immediately wondered were platoon leaders were to arrest this situation and reign in discipline.

Those were little signs that were showing that all wasn't well in the Nigerian camp.

The Nigerian army heirachy is simply out of ideas, i never was a proponent of the use of PMCs, but it is now evident that we require serious external help. The Chief of Army Staff seems to be lost. The current crop of service chiefs should have all been fired a long time ago, apart from the Air Force chief, the Army, Navy and CDS seem to all be out of ideas.

Money is a problem in Nigeria for the military, however our biggest setback is training.

Nigerian soldiers over the past 7 months have displayed a level of poor training hitherto un-seen in Nigeria.

It is either this or the troops simply can put to action what they have been trained to do.

Strategy, this is another area were the army seems lost. They seem to be comfortable with waiting to be attacked, then getting severely beaten and overrun.

There's nothing wrong with waiting to be attacked and defending per say. The Royal Irish of the British army deployed in Musa-Qala, Afghanistan in 2008 also deployed a defending tactic.

88 men of the Royal Irish, armed with only 2 50.Cal HMGs defended their base without been overrun by the Taliban despite 55 days of continuous assault by hundreds of Taliban.

The British had aircover, but in 2008 when resources were mainly focused in Iraq, it goes to show what good training and discipline can do for soldiers on the ground.

Leadership is also lacking so badly, it is embarrassing!

When Nigerian troops say they got attacked and overrun by BHT, you look at what the Nigerian soldiers got dispossessed off....... You begin to wonder how did that happen.

One incident, 2 incidents, even 3 incidents, you can manage and say, maybe it's this unit or that unit. But with the frequency with which bases now fall, it's clear that the cancer is wide-spread and not isolated.

LOL sorry for the capital and bold letters. From what a friend told me Cameroonian soldiers had left on a rotation to maroua but if in case Cameroonian soldiers where in the base then i don't know what can stop that group. be able to attacked and successfully take a base with the best contingents of 3 countries. hmmmm i portrays nothing good for 2019. Reading your response shows there is soo much to do in the Nigerian military, especially with the top brass of of the nigerian military. They sincerely need to put in place a real strategy since they are the one in command of the multi-national-task-force against BH.

Excuse me for butting in. Better base defence set up will help if the defensive status is maintained. Well fortified and defended bases needed not barbed wire and rickety gates. Then a new COIN doctrine is needed based on lessons learnt.

The British and Americans could defend their bases because of how they were set up. Training is one element but if the troops feel exposed with inadequate defence set up and support, the training will be out the window.

The rot in the Nigerian system has caught up with the military. It started a long time ago. Some people talk about the ECOMOG days as one of the glorious times of the Nigerian military but have failed to understand that Nigeria lost a lot of men in that war. News abound of corruption in the army hierarchy with even one of the top guys buying motorcycle helmets as bullet proof helmets for the military in ECOMOG. I ve made it known in times past that most of the guys enlisting in the military are doing it for the money. When you get to see military men building houses worth more than 500 million naira you get to wonder if they are allocated oil Wells when they get to top positions of chiefs. So many things happening that I cannot write here. My pain is that for no worthwhile reason some people will never see their fathers, husbands, brothers, nephews. And Nigerians don't seem to care.

I don't doubt the curroption in the ecomog era. What you shouldn't doubt as well is the fact that the ecomog soldiers fought well and have a lot of battle experience which they could share with the new guys and their commanders. Also, they could help to cut the corruption since they know how it is done even better than the current doers.

NAF AIRCRAFT NEUTRALIZE SEVERAL TERRORISTS AT THEIR HIDEOUT NEAR BAGA

The Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE has neutralized several Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters at their hideout near Baga in Northern Borno State. The attack was conducted yesterday, 29 December 2018, after a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform spotted the terrorists assembled under some trees around the Fish Dam near Baga. The ATF therefore dispatched an Alpha Jet aircraft to attack the location. The aircraft multiple attack passes, killing several of the terrorists and causing serious injuries to others. The surviving terrorists were mopped-up in subsequent follow on strikes.

How many bombs are we gonna drop on single targets? dropping a bomb to kill a guy on motorcycle seems like wasting tons of money.
But yea, good images there though.
Wish they can target these guys when they gather around, wipe them out en-mass, that would be great.
