Thanks for your quick and detailed response as always.
however, there is no plan to build on that section of the land. it's just going to be compound space or car park or something.
no structure planed to go on it, the new pit will be located in a new spot.

Does this change your submission? can we evacuate, fill up and just cover it up in one go?

If no structure is envisaged like you said just evacuate, dismantle blocks and fill with laterite. There will be settlement but good enough to use as compound space from completion.

This is the major reason why this country will just not move forward.

Out of greed, people finds it difficult to stick to the field they were trained to specialize in.

Too bad, I must say.
Greed ke? So for an architect to supervise a building construction don turn greed? Any construction company that wants to employ an architect add site supervision as a criteria. And also Nigerians don't pay the right amount for drawings, so do you expect an architect after collecting peanuts for a design will now let a builder/engineer to make all the money from site supervision? Lastly, site supervision is not rocket science.

In construction work, there are substitute/alternative materials to use and when done right, it'll give the desired result.
In as much as 6" blocks, Y12 are not the recommended to use for single storey buildings Engineering wise, that does not mean a structure done with such will not stand if the individual doing such knows what he's doing.
The use of Y12 for single storey building as wholesome reinforcement material is not just peculiar to Edo State, you can add Imo State to that list and some other states.
The use of 9" blocks for foundation wall of bungalows is a nice option but not a guarantee that the building will not have defects.
There's also no known article anywhere that says complete lintel chaining prevents wall cracks.
In certain riverine communities in Bayelsa State, those who have the resources have to transport granite materials across water via pontoon-barge to effect their building construction works. Others who can't, make use of periwinkle shells and 3/8" coarse as aggregate materials for concrete works for their single storey buildings.

Not just in Imo and Edo state, in Anambra state especially Onitsha 60 - 70% of one storey buildings were done with Y12 iron and 6" solid blocks as against Y16 iron and 9" hollow blocks.
Also some people use Y12 and 9" hollow block in their construction.

Hello,

So I don't know if this is the right place to post this. But I am in need of some help.

I need an office space. To be specific, I need a shared space for a team of 4 people. My company is a Digital Marketing agency. We would like to serve your company in return. Manage your business online at no cost. If this is a good deal please let me know.

If there is a different forum that can help with this, please let me know.

Also if you have a friend who does not mind sharing his office space, please let me know too.

Thank you

***Oga Brabus,

I think we should make it clear that this Individual has to be a professional. A structural Engineer that can calculate the loads acting on the building, and distribute this load appropriately.

A house built with 6" blocks will most likely have 150 x 150mm columns and beams. Can they easily substitute for 225 x 225mm columns and beams? Do they have a required safety factor? Etc etc..

****Also, the fact that you use a 9" or 6" block doesn't guarantee absence of defects ((this is majorly down to construction practices)) but there are reasons why we choose to use 9". All things being equal, a 9" block will have a higher load resistance than a 6" block. I'm talking Dead loads, Wind loads, Live loads, Vertical loads, compression and axial loads etc etc..

About the lintel.....

Naturally and professionally one won't do a design for a single storey building with 6"blocks and Y12 to be used as columns/beams.
If another is said to be a professional that individual should be able to calculate the number of Y12(columns/beams) that would stand as substitute for Y16 and also its corresponding stirrups spacing putting every other thing into consideration.

Yeah, I can't remember the last time I heard of a collapsed one Storey Building in Onitsha and environ.
Obviously the Engineers in that clime know what they are doing.

On my view, I think the regulations there have been able to handle them well and making sure every site is doing the right thing.
Quack engineers would have gotten their stay better if there is no strict authority.
