Hmm how would the VO's know how many schools I applied to ? Can't I just say 10 |
Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 14 by fairheart(m): 7:49pm On Jan 09, 2019 |
Please tell the VO you applied to 30 schools. 30 schools! Na straight approval you go get. You are really funny. Tell your case as it may be. But joke apart, did you really apply to 10 schools? eastafro: |

eastafro:Dont be tempted to lie. What if you’re asked how many gave you admission? Then you lie again, this time you probably reduce the lie and say 5. What if you’re further asked to produce acceptance letter as proof? What will you do ? Don’t make things difficult for yourself. Just tell the truth. 3 Likes |

Good day folks Does an active citizenship petition filing ruins one's chances of being granted a student VISA ? I meant if I fill it in the DS 160 form ? |

So happy for you! quote author=Pat006 post=74594242]Had my interview today. To be honest with you all ehn. I cannot comprehend all I said to get the white paper. It was like something else assumed me. I'm saying because I can't give a transcript and I know I learnt a lot from reading people's transcript. It was my first time though. It was an MBA program with focus on financial management and investment. Lincoln university California is the school. But my advice is simple. Know well about the course you are going for. Please don't cram. Thank you nairalanders.. You groomed me!!![/quote] |

Good morning all, a friend of mine stammers a little and has an interview at the US embassy next week. Is it okay for her to tell them immediately after 'good morning' about this, so they would not think that her stutter is caused by something else? Please let me know your thoughts 2 Likes |

kodeya: In my opinion, having an active citizenship petition filing shows migration/citizenship intent which is a big issue. The major reason why people are being denied is not having strong home ties which can be rephrase to being seen as a potential immigrant. You now going for F1 while your immigrant/citizenship petition is ongoing clearly shows you want to migrate using F1 as a cover. My advice will be for you to chill until a decision is made on your citizenship petition before applying for F1. This is my own opinion based on the very very little i know about this matter. Don't take it too serious. Kindly wait for more experienced gurus to comment Hope this helps you. Best Regards 1 Like |

groovychik: First of all, accept the fact that the friend in question is you! I'll give you my experience so that you don't feel that you are alone. Others with a similar issue can also read this and note the tips. I'm emotionally touched to respond to this question because I also have a similar issue and have somehow managed it. You won't go wrong telling the VO about your speech issues before you start the interview. In fact, this step is recommended by one of the VO's here on nairaland. The benefit of this step is that it reduces your stress level and allows the VO to be patient with you. If you don't trust your fluency or you feel you may have moments of stuttering during your interview, I advise you follow this strategy. The other strategy, which I used, is to rehearse very very well and know your words for every likely question. This strategy is different from cramming. Know your school, your program, everything about your application and rehearse them very very well. I rehearsed every day for one month before my interview. I drafted likely questions and gave to my nice friend who called me every day at a particular time for 3 rounds of interviews. It took less than 40 minutes each day for the interviews and the feedback. The friend knew my condition and suggested ways I could avoid some words or use synonyms where necessary. Another friend, who also knew about my condition, assisted with several rounds of physical mocks a few days to my interview. To practice my fluency, I volunteered to help other visa applicants with their mocks on the condition that they also give me mock interviews. So, I would do 3 rounds with them and they will do 3 rounds with me. These applicants did not know about my condition and even when I stuttered sometimes, it wasn't pronounced and they didn't notice. I used their interviews to get a feel of how the atmosphere will be when I'm interviewing with a total stranger like a VO. I think I had ~ 12 mocks with those visa applicants. My strategy may be very hectic, but I did it because I hate being seen as an object of pity. So, if method 2 seems hectic for you, method 1 is totally fine. Just rehearse, relax and tell the VO about your issue. Then, speak without fear because 90% of stuttering is caused by the fear of stuttering, not even the stuttering itself. Overall, being a stutterer is a very hard thing in our society. Just imagine the shame you'll feel when you have your moments while giving a speech in a packed gathering. Just be strong and keep pushing. About my interview, I had two stuttering moments but I think the VO didn't notice because I paused, took a deep breath and continued. She may probably be thinking that "E be like say this boy don forget him script ". God bless. 11 Likes |

There are two sides to this issue. I am sure that you must have stated on your DSFORM that the immigrant petition is ongoing or that someone has filed for you. In that case, this is in the system (in fact, they'll figure it out later (during background check) before they seal the visa on your passport even if you don't state it). During your interview, the consular might noticed and ask questions related to that. It could generate a lot of questions and as sheke01 opined, it will not help your F1 application. It literally says you're trying to obtain the F1 Visa to migrate to the US to be with whoever has been filling for you, and that you'll not come back. Your chance is slim! However, if you could explain your case very well and the consular who interviews you understand, you may be lucky; the VO may get up during the interview and seek his/her superior's guide on whether or not to refuse you. But I smell refusal on issue like this. I always advise that if the citizenship petition is ongoing and has taken in a lot of processing time, why not wait? If you can't wait, then know that your F1 Visa may be refused on that ground. It certainly reduces your chance, but NOTE: things happens-- including miraculous F1 visa approval. Good luck! kodeya: 1 Like |
