Looks like possible overcharging? What is your absorb voltage set to? How often do you equalize? Do you top a lot of water regularly or just a few MLs a week (like a syringeful per battery cell) olatade: |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by earthrealm(m): 8:35pm On Jan 09, 2019 |
olatade: high charging voltage, i suspect your inverter or charge controller is outputing >15v per battery for charging, if filled properly, it shud stay 2 to 3 months btw top ups |

@Niyi I will be needing a Felicity inverter soon, who do I contact for price pls. Will a 2kva inverter be able to handle (2) 100W deep freezers, keeping in mind the surge at start up. Thank you. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by NiyiOmoIyunade(m): 5:42pm On Jan 10, 2019 |
Felicity's entry level 24v inverter is a 2.5kva - this should do the job with ease - but you have to size the batteries appropriately for the load. How do you plan to recharge the batteries? PHCN, Gen, Solar or a combo? You can reach us on sales@luminanttechsystems.com for an evaluation and price quotes. Thank you. NextDayPP: |

Please see diagram below - A1 and A2 are the signals to the coil (live and neutral respectively). [1,R1,R3,3] are the COMMON side while [2,R2,R4,4] are the LOAD side. The question you have asked is about the load side wiring. The ideal relay/contactor is a double throw switch such that although multiple power sources (PHCN and Gen) are setup on the COMMON side, ONLY ONE power source at a time can feed the load side - for this reason one is able to use a terminal block or other arrangement to feed the load with 2 power sources [bond the load side...] knowing that only 1 power source can feed the load at any time. One may also use TWO NO contactors but "mechanically interlocked" for safety. As always, please ensure appropriate breakers/fuses are installed at source and load for safety. In this diagram PHCN has priority! Trippledots: 1 Like

Yes any suitably rated relay/contactor with at least 1 each of NO and NC contacts such as LC1D25008 can serve as an ATS - please see example diagram below; You may need additional circuitry to switch your Gen OFF/ON after power transfer though. Trippledots: 1 Like

NextDayPP: I ll advice u go for a 3.5kva, u won't have to wori about switching off other loads b4 putting on ur freezers, it even prepares u for futuristic loads.. Secondly do ur ba3 sizing well, if possible add solar panels if phcn is an issue in ur area 4 Likes |

My Oga, It will be safer if additional auxiliary contact is added to d contactor, and the Gen Off is wired to the NO of the aux contact. Wit this the GEn goes off immediately PHCN comes in. Just a blink in the Supply NiyiOmoIyunade: 2 Likes |

Please house I need to find out the best option for batteries. Seal maintenance free batteries Or Flooded batteries. It's for a location that is unoccupied for most part of the year so regular topping of battery acid maybe impossible. The recent I'm asking is coz a lot of people say they prefer flooded batteries to smf. Thanks |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by GeorgeD1(m): 3:08pm On Jan 13, 2019 |
hardywaltz, i think you have answered the question yourself. if the location will be unoccupied for the better part of the year, then it's better to install sealed maintenance free batteries. flooded batteries are not advisable except you plan going to top them up on a regular basis or sending someone else to do it for you. there are provisions for auto water fillers in after market purchases but that is a different kettle of fish altogether. 4 Likes |

hardywaltz: The part in bold answers your question. Sealed Maintenance free are called that for a reason and are best for places what are unoccupied for most part of the year as long as they get sufficiently charged. |

We just ordered for a couple battleborns Lifepo4 12v 100ah batteries and they are in transit to Nigeria. I must say that I'm very very excited at the thought of having a battery that delivers 100% of it's rated capacity over a long period of time. I will keep the house posted when they arrive and on how they perform and if indeed Lithium is the future. From the way I see it, even at current prices, they may already be more cost effective than their lead acid counterparts, especially the ones from Nigeria. 3 Likes |

Hello Solar Gurus in the forum, I just got a small solar system of a 300W solar panel, a PWM charge controller, a 1000W inverter and a used 200Ah battery. My laptop charger is 65W and the system lasts 3 hours at night. I would like to know if I plug a fan of same wattage (65W) as the laptop without plugging the laptop, would I have the same number of hours? My thought goes into the induction coil in the fan. I am being careful as I got a fairly used battery and I don't want to put too much strain on it. Please help on this. |

My primary 12V charger died after about 10 years of meritorious service. Not keen on rewinding the transformer nor tampering with the FETs (done that once before and it wasn't quite the same). Any recommendations for something cheap and reliable? Needn't exceed 20A (max 30A). Currently rigged a spare 250W panel with a spare CC to help people maintain batteries kept with me. |
