I obtained a tbills form from stanbic today in anticipation on the upcoming primaries.
Kindly throw in your suggestions what rate one can assume to get for 365days with less percent chance of it falling through.
I'm thinking of bidding at 14.5%. What's your stance?

So, if you are allowed to choose your own rate, aim higher like 15.5%

Yes you can.... As a matter of fact last year I used it for my savings throughout so there are periods I had like 7 different tenure of small amount rolling. I save it as it comes.. So long as it's up to the minimum amount required no issues..

You can only bid with your own rate if you have N50m and above otherwise, you will have to make do with whatever rate the bank bids at the primary market.

I walked into an Ecobank branch in Lagos on Tuesday and filled the form to purchase treasury bills. I was told the form will be scanned to my bank outside of Lagos to have it purchased. I just put a call through to my branch outside Lagos and the customer care officer told me they received my form, but are yet to bid because they have not received bid for this week.
He was trying to convince me to go for fixed deposit saying it was almost the same rates. He wasn't sounding like they planned on putting any effort soon to purchase the T.Bills.
My question is how can I speed up the process of getting this T. Bills. Thank you

Simply call Ecobank Customer Care number on +2347005000000. They should be able to provide answers.

Hello everyone, I trust we are all doing fine so far in this New year. Special thanks to the originator of this thread @ feelamong.
I have painstakingly followed this thread from page 1 up till the last page from mid 2017 till this day and I can say that I have learnt a whole lot from here that I might not be able to learn in any conventional school. Knowledge gathered here spured me to be more prudent in my finances and focus on learning how to preserve and grow money in other to secure a good future for myself. Immense gratitude to all who have shared useful insights as regards the subject matter and other relevant information. I have so much knowledge that some of my friends that work in banks ask me how I know so much about treasury bills..
Even though I had a failed attempt at purchasing my first treasury bill today at @gtbank where they said that the secondary market tbill is not available for today(not usually available every day) and could not also transfer my money to another bank because my account was restricted. From the little I could see and as have been confirmed here most staff of some banks have little knowledge as to how tbills work. Armed with the information gathered from this thread I was able to defeat the pessimistic vibe of todays' event and determined to succeed in my attempt next week.

Even @the secondary mkt it's banks rate that must use. You can however insist that you won't accept below a specific rate.

It's VERY unlikely the secondary mkt rate will be higher dn the primary bid o. Cos d banks buy and resell. So if they resell at a higher rate they'll incur loss.

From experience the secondary is Abt .5 to 1 percentage pt lower than the primary bid

Almost had the same experience with you today. Yesterday 10/11 some of my tasere TB matured.. I always try to reinvest the day it matured if I have the time but unfortunately, First Bank branches around me had network issues. Later in the day I was going through this thread and saw GT rates which were very attractive. So I went back to First Bank and dropped a transfer instruction to move the money to GT which later went through after the close of work.
Early this morning, I went to GT and was told to wait till after 10:00am. When it's time I went back there only to be told that they have not gotten any TB advice today. Immediately I went to their transfer desk and moved my money to Stanbic instantly.

Except there is a new policy to that effect.. The minimum for GT, Stanbic IBTC and First Bank for either primary or secondary market is N100,000.

They will show you the rates before you write the letter right there in the bank indicating your interest, amount and account number to be debited.

I've also sent an instruction to my gtbank account officer to quote their rates but no response.

It seems the 500k minimum requirement is true cos i have less than in my account, however a simple response would have been appreciated. Its a bad practice from them, i might consider opening another bank account and transfer my money asap.

Please does access and zenith bank have good rates?

First you have to get the email address of the person in charge. In Benue where I'm based, its one Kevin Eze.
Then send the email. All I usually specify is the tenor, amount and account to debit. Since its usually primary market I do, I have to go with their rate, so I dont specify it. Normally he has to receive the mail latest Tuesday of the bidding week.

If successful, I'll usually be debited by Friday, though sometimes it extends till Saturday.

For Secondary market, (which I must confess I rarely do) I had to go to the bank to discuss their available rates and tenors to see if its acceptable. Hope this helps

Primary market is bi monthly on Wednesdays n interest are payable on Thursdays. Also bidding for dis month is on the 16th of January 2019 on Wednesday.

Someone told me diamond bank gives rate at 13.9% for 41 days don’t know how true it is.....I want to go into treasure bills for the first time,I have read the first pages on how the percentage are being divided.....is it possible to get a 13.9% for 41 days
