C505:you can get 14.5 in the secondary market nah. I did with diamond and gtbank @14.5% So, if you are allowed to choose your own rate, aim higher like 15.5% |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by freeman67: 2:38pm On Jan 11, 2019 |
Mizwisdom: Yes you can.... As a matter of fact last year I used it for my savings throughout so there are periods I had like 7 different tenure of small amount rolling. I save it as it comes.. So long as it's up to the minimum amount required no issues.. 1 Like |

Hello everyone, I trust we are all doing fine so far in this New year. Special thanks to the originator of this thread @ feelamong. I have painstakingly followed this thread from page 1 up till the last page from mid 2017 till this day and I can say that I have learnt a whole lot from here that I might not be able to learn in any conventional school. Knowledge gathered here spured me to be more prudent in my finances and focus on learning how to preserve and grow money in other to secure a good future for myself. Immense gratitude to all who have shared useful insights as regards the subject matter and other relevant information. I have so much knowledge that some of my friends that work in banks ask me how I know so much about treasury bills.. Even though I had a failed attempt at purchasing my first treasury bill today at @gtbank where they said that the secondary market tbill is not available for today(not usually available every day) and could not also transfer my money to another bank because my account was restricted. From the little I could see and as have been confirmed here most staff of some banks have little knowledge as to how tbills work. Armed with the information gathered from this thread I was able to defeat the pessimistic vibe of todays' event and determined to succeed in my attempt next week. Thank you all for the knowledge shared. I am grateful to you all. 15 Likes |

OgogoroFreak: Oga ogogoro, hope say u never overshack o.(Na joke o) But seriously how can he aim for 15.5% when the highest rate currently in primakt is just abt 14.5%? U want the bank to be at a loss? Even @the secondary mkt it's banks rate that must use. You can however insist that you won't accept below a specific rate. 1 Like |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by alezzy13: 6:52pm On Jan 11, 2019 |
C505: It's VERY unlikely the secondary mkt rate will be higher dn the primary bid o. Cos d banks buy and resell. So if they resell at a higher rate they'll incur loss. From experience the secondary is Abt .5 to 1 percentage pt lower than the primary bid |

Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by freeman67: 8:34pm On Jan 11, 2019 |
Rori: Almost had the same experience with you today. Yesterday 10/11 some of my tasere TB matured.. I always try to reinvest the day it matured if I have the time but unfortunately, First Bank branches around me had network issues. Later in the day I was going through this thread and saw GT rates which were very attractive. So I went back to First Bank and dropped a transfer instruction to move the money to GT which later went through after the close of work. Early this morning, I went to GT and was told to wait till after 10:00am. When it's time I went back there only to be told that they have not gotten any TB advice today. Immediately I went to their transfer desk and moved my money to Stanbic instantly. 5 Likes |

OgogoroFreak:I went to GTBANK today....Got 14.5% for 355 days ,the branch told me to call my account officers that they have sent my instructions to them.....Called this lady by 1pm, and she said she's was on the road.....up till now,I haven't been debited....!! GTBANK is fond of tying it's customers to their designated account officers which is very wrong....No one can treat your TB except your account officer.? 4 Likes |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by OgogoroFreak(m): 10:46pm On Jan 11, 2019 |
Gavrelino123:Really? I didn't call any account officer o. I just wrote a letter that was scanned and uploaded into their system. That's all! I was debited around 6:30pm that same day. |

Gavrelino123: Unless it's a very recent development, I can boldly say that not (shouldn't be) the case. In fact in most branches Ive used, there's usually a designated officer that handles such issues, and sometimes I go physically other times it's just an email. I've NEVER had to go through my account officer. |

Hi, everyone. I was informed by a Gtbank representative that the minimum amount that can be invested in the secondary market of the bank is 500,000 Naira. Please, which bank allows for lower amounts and has good rates? |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by freeman67: 6:16am On Jan 12, 2019 |
dammybrite: Except there is a new policy to that effect.. The minimum for GT, Stanbic IBTC and First Bank for either primary or secondary market is N100,000. |

I've also sent an instruction to my gtbank account officer to quote their rates but no response. It seems the 500k minimum requirement is true cos i have less than in my account, however a simple response would have been appreciated. Its a bad practice from them, i might consider opening another bank account and transfer my money asap. Please does access and zenith bank have good rates? 1 Like 1 Share |

[quote author=OgogoroFreak post=74651147]it is. Honestly, these rates are far better than keeping ur money in savings accounts or even fixed deposits. Though, you can always get better rate from primary market. [/quote)] Okay. Thank you. |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Eaze66: 8:17am On Jan 12, 2019 |
Good morning I just want to know if anyone has received d interest on investment for the primary market((91days) this year? First bank told me they have not bidded this year but they've debited my account on Wednesday 9-01-2019 |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by alezzy13: 9:33am On Jan 12, 2019 |
Gavrelino123: First you have to get the email address of the person in charge. In Benue where I'm based, its one Kevin Eze. Then send the email. All I usually specify is the tenor, amount and account to debit. Since its usually primary market I do, I have to go with their rate, so I dont specify it. Normally he has to receive the mail latest Tuesday of the bidding week. If successful, I'll usually be debited by Friday, though sometimes it extends till Saturday. For Secondary market, (which I must confess I rarely do) I had to go to the bank to discuss their available rates and tenors to see if its acceptable. Hope this helps 2 Likes 1 Share |
