There is a difference though. Alshaabab are launching once in a blue moon attacks dressed like civilians - Boko haram basically occupy territory, drive military cars, and basically rule most of North East Nigeria. That is more a occupying force. Alshabaab do that in Somalia. Not in Kenya.
Danielnino00:
Its quite pathetic the way some Kenyans have been making light work out of d Nairobi attack.. The Kenyans trying to make it look like its no big deal (our country is the most secured in the world bla bla) after constantly making fun of us cus of Boko Haram...In almost every anti- Nigeria argument from other Africans I've come across on social media,Boko Haram is always used to mock us...

Terrorism isn't a joke!!

I wish Kenya all the best though

BH is restricted to d border between nigeria, chad, cameroon and niger republic... they occupy minimal territory in nigeria.

They do a kind of hit-n-run attack since its difficult for nigerian armies to trespass their territory.

yeah, in numbers... i forgot to add that.

But is cost of living a major factor in that metric?
That will matter different for different items. India is cheaper to live than West and China, not Africa.

Only industrial commodities or certain food products are cheaper in India which Africans don't produce. Africans have to import them.

Everything produced by both India and Africa will be cheaper in Africa because of cheap labour.

In other countries - they would call the military - Kenya combined police force respond to terror attack at Riverside, Nairobi. These consist of regular police, the two paramilitary wing (AP & GSU - with elite squads) and the CID (plain clothes)

In kenya rarely are military ever used in anything...and majority use to retire without ever firing their guns in battle. Apart from somali war..they are mostly kept in barracks or outside the country in peacekeeping missions. That is how Kenya has avoided military misbehaving or overthrowing civilian rule. Keep the at barracks because they are trained to simply Kill.

When were Kenyans a threat ?

The Tanzania minister should stop the early panicking. Get ready to see more Kenyan Kiswahili teachers teaching the language in SA

Below is his quote

"We are aware that we will face competition from other countries, including Kenya but I am confident that many Tanzanians will be employed because we have the best Kiswahili teachers in the region," said Ole Nasha.

As long as they keep this a police work this will be fine. The former Karangi inserted himself into WestGate and brought heavy equipments to deal with 4 terrorist armed with light weapons. It was the biggest cock up. I am glad the current military head as no affinity for press cameras. Karangi
would be all over with his 5 foot stature trying to bring fighter jets to the scene.

Right now it appears the terrorist are on top floor of Dusit hotel. 6 of 7 floors cleared.

The Reece squad and the paramilitary should do the job !

You don't send soldiers to malls or hotels with army tanks !

Glad that we've learned some few lessons. Even the periodic briefings by the Inspector General are well measured, there are no conflicting reports from different government officials as was like the case in Westgate.

Goel:

Le'me simplify it for you. We all Asians and Africans have suffered economic depressions in first half of past centuries and great divergence has put us miles behind west.
Your ultimate aim is to catch up with them economically again.
Opportunity comes here because their population is either at replacement rates or declining and hence, we are able to get hands on some of their industries and technologies.
The country who won't make efforts to tap this market can't be deemed successful.
Thanks @ bolded. But I don't think you've simplified anything here. You've not said anything anyone with basic knowledge of world affairs does not know. grin
I'm wondering just because Venezuela in bigger crisis, one will stop improving his own country.
Can you kindly point out where I said anything to suggest the bolded? I merely gave the lie to your claim that poorer economies always grow faster than richer economies by citing the examples of relatively poor economies such as Venezuela (-1.7& GDP growth), South Africa (-7% growth), and let me add Jamaica (0.5% GDP growth). And Nigeria (2.3%gdp growth) despite the fact that we are just exiting recession. Unless you don't know how debilitating an economic recession can be. That 2% growth is an upward trajectory that deserves some applause. Heck,we dropped below 1%! And I sincerely believe that upward trajectory is due to the fact that the Nigerian economy is more diverse than previously thought.
I'm afraid that you are taking me otherwise as if I was making it Nigeria vs Kenya or India which I'm definitely not doing.
If I didn't know better, I would think so @ bolded. grin But trust me I know better and I can tell people apart, especially sane people from the less so. No,your opinions to me, are honest so far.
Indeed, Nigeria's 6% growth rate was impressive then but what now? Why it declined to 2%? If everything is dominated by oil then you have switch to a diversified economy. Given that major consumer countries in West and East have been moving towards other sources, oil can't be relied for long term.
Thanks@bolded. To answer your question: I would say the decline to 2% was due not only to oil crash but also a poorly judged monetary policy by the present government. I told you we declined far below 1%. For us to be at 2% now is an upward swing and a clear evidence of the resilience of the Nigerian economy. 2019 is even going to be better according to projections.

And current 2% growth rate is lower than Nigeria's population growth rate. If a country with 0.5% population growth rate in Europe grows at this rate, its fine but at Nigeria's stage less than 5% can't be called Good, less than 4% can be disastrous. Because Nigeria's income is declining, not increasing right now.
I guess I have answered this. We once were among the three fastest growing economies in the world a mere 5years ago. If we Are at 2% now from -8%, pray tell me, how is that an indication that our income is declining? We are gradually getting back on our feet. That said, all is said is said on that matter, please.

I don't have anything to do with your politicians sharing photos of airports and infrastructure.
In India, they were made themselves by private firms and they are more common here because they are built if needed only.
Don't be silly, our politicians don't share pictures of airports and infrastructure and such things. And if they do,it's not different from what your politicians do as well. grin To suggest that the private sector has little contribution to infrastructure and development in Africa is plain ignorant. Right now,one of the largest petrochemical refineries in the world is nearing completion in Lagos and it's privately funded. There are numerous projects time would not permit me to list here.

You guys direly need to finish that bloody Boko Haram and diversify industry. The easiest and most profitable industries are Clothe and steel industries. They'll easily solve Nigeria's unemployment issue in few years plus will make it largest exporter to other African countries.
We have largely contained Boko Haram @ 1st bolded. They are confined to north eastern part of Nigeria. They mainly attack villages. Our economic cities have always been free from the menace of Boko Haram. Terrorism is Hydra headed and not easy to finish as you think. Kudos to our military.
@2nd bolded: you sounded like IMF with its ignorance about thinking it knows what works for all poor countries. grin One size never fits all, bro. Clothing and steel industries are not the easiest and most profitable industries that could solve Nigeria's unemployment and economic problems quickly. What would work for Nigeria is agriculture and agro allied industries that can add value to what we produce. These will not only feed our people but also provide employment and foreign exchange. Light manufacturing of things we need would also help.

Nigeria is Africa's giant! It's most populated there, has second largest African economy and one of largest producers of oil. Big countries obviously have higher FDI than smaller ones.
Nigeria was in fact far richer than India and South East Asian countries for past 100 recorded years for natural reasons, overtaken by them very recently because Asia was getting industrialized.
You are right @ bolded. I took the liberty to correct your error. Nigeria is Africa's largest economy.

Nigeria's enormous untapped potential could make it emerge another great power emerge on globe and first from Africa. A pivotal role similar to USA in North America, Brazil in South America, India in Southern Asia and China-Japan in Eastern Asia.

In end of this century when India and China both will start to decline, world can only look at Nigeria as new global growth driver. So, they need to prepare from now.
The Kenyans would not like your closing shot especially the bolded. grin
