For better assessment of standard of living in a country, GDP is not a sufficient measure. Human Development Index, Gini coefficient, are some of other measures to do that. Each index constitutes different information. One single index is never advised. and in this category, Ghana is ahead of both Nigeria and Kenya.

GDP assumes too much, it assumes all growth is good growth.for example, the pollution of the water in Nigeria due to oil exploration, the clean up will be added to GDP, as is the health care cost. But clearly that is a negative for society, even as it is a positive for GDP.

i agree that no one number could possibly serve as a good measure of an economic system. Any statistic involves choices about what to measure, what to include, how to weight those inputs, and what to exclude. For a Nigeria system of 180 million people and billions of dollars, no number could possibly capture the variety of experiences and vagaries of output and growth. GDP is a usual measure, but we rely on it far too much, that it to tell us things it cannot.

Sir, nobody is saying GDP is the sole determinant of the economic and social state of a country. That's the reason we have always brought here other indices like HDI, Life expectancy, literacy, hunger index etc whenever our Nigerian brothers try to claim superiority based on GDP alone. However, someone posted the GDPs of those selected countries just for us to see what to expect this year. Please, let's focus on discussing that.

Kenya GDP is now nearly 100B - by 2022/23 - it will be 150B. Nigeria cooked GDP stick out.

They never really overtook kenya - they were estimated to overtake kenya last year - then they devalued the birr. They are still fastest growing at 8% - but kenya is edging towards 7% - and Kenya strength is ever strong kshs.

Fin Minster power in current constitutional dispensation is really limited. He doesn't make the budget. Parliament makes it. He doesn't control the budget - the budget controller does that. All Rotich does is the donkey work of financing the budget.

That's awesome. We have Accra Road in Nairobi and Nkrumah Hall at the University of Nairobi. At independence, all roads in Nairobi were named after African cities and African heroes. It's hard to find a Road with a European name in Nairobi at the moment.
Thats the Pan African spirit

Nigeria>Ghana (at least in influence)
grin grin
influence where ?

cause even Obasanjo came to plead with Ghana
so that we can help talk to the Americans on behalf of Nigerian
Obasanjo wanted the Americans to allow Nigeria to build nuclear reactors for electricity generation in Nigeria.

We are still slaves indeed
You mean an african country has to act for permission to build a nuclear reactor for electricity generation

Nigeria is a fluid case

its quite unstable

And yes that is not strange because
the UN itself is concern when it comes to the proliferation of Nuclear tech

True grin

But Nigeria's problem is not only generation, it's the whole value chain. Generation, transmission, distribution.

Installed capacity: more than 10,000mw

Average gen capacity: 3500-4000mw (we need to make sure all our plants are working at optimum capacity first)

Transmission capacity: about 5000mw (there was a time when generating companies (Gencos) manage to generate about 7000mw but 2000mw was stranded because it cannot be transmitted)

Distribution capacity: 6000mw plus.

So you see. It doesn't matter if we build 100 mega plants, the transmission company can't transmit to distribution companies (DisCos) and even if they manage to transmit all of it, discos can't distribute all of it.

Which is why government is more focused on overhauling existing plants and building more substations than building new plants.

And Nigeria's grid is too centralized. We need to break it up into more efficient mini grids.
now i understand...its the transmission stupid (like Clinton would say )grin

Then if this must come quicker, then i advise government shouild be serious in sanitizing the buisness enviroment, not when it is too late. menzgold create a lot of mess in the country, there alot of ponzi schemes growing everyday which need immediate crack down. in my, opinion, Npp government is sleeping, and there is the recent news of kidnapping, what is going on?

I dont why nigerians prefer generators to solar panels
i think oil (petrol an diesel)is cheaper in their place

You are a Nigerian.

Be bold enough to be objective

Mobius isnt Kenyan, its owned by British

When we talk indigenous brands owned by real blacks

Kenya is found wanting
SA is found under the hole

I can see that that impoverished black SA white man ass licker is back
SA dare not toil with NG
We dominate their business chain, take over their shops in Jo'burg and lastly take their ladies

Black south Africans have less than 10% feasible business on the stock exchange

Kenya and SA are ornithological specimens who variably conglomerate to their various proximity. They suffer modern colonial rule.Whites decide and command too much in their country

Watch as they come to attack me gringrin

Menzgold was supposed to be regularised since it had become too big

It was the plan, but with every new government comes new interest and those who felt threathen by it operation decided there was no way they could allow it to operate.

State institutions are sleeping on their jobs

I think the best alternative is generating electricity from water example oxygen or hydrogen like hydrolysis I think that will be the best option. You pass direct current through water and you get out hydrogen I know there are cars which run on water only
problem with that is you end up using electricity to create electricity...to get hydrogen from water you use electricity which is then converted back to electricity when mixed with oxygen again...in then process we end up using more power than we gain back

Not so bad, this country are diversifying their economy, moving away from one focus industry like oil or simple gold. Any mono focus industry, no matter how big the indusrty may be , it will be slower to development. we are in the era of technology aand md service production.. thinking forward nations are moving toward this area.

I know Nigeria makes its patrol and gun boats. It's one reason why I said Nigeria's navy is the uncontested giant in Sub-Saharan Africa. Kenyans can't argue that.

But if we make this things it's good but obviously more needs to be done. Much much more. I wonder if the military keeps quiet about these things for tactical reasons as I can understand that.

tahh...nigeria is not scared of other black nations....nigeria is more worried about those international moroons that can use proxies to wage war on you....
