While this news is cheering, I hope IMSG isn't taxing businesses heavily. Because if that's the case, they will probably move to the neighboring states in the coming years.

To me since industries are yet to come onboard, why doesn't the state government focus on agriculture at least to fuel the hotels and restaurants needs and that of imo residents for the mean time.

It doesn't need to be the duty of the government per say. The presence of hotels and restaurants in Imo is already fueling the agricultural industry there. People are trooping into agriculture in IMO, and guess what they are selling at higher prices to the hotels compared to those if us doing it in Lagos n Abuja.

I personally know vegetable farmers who are making thousands of naira per month, and also know poultry and snail farmers who are making their cool cash (both are lecturers in FUTO). The poultry farmer even processes his own in such a way you'll think they are imported frozen food.

All I'm saying is that the hospitality industry have opened way for growth in agricultural industry in Imo state.

Incresed agricultural output for Industrial use.
That's a big win for Imo. We need more of this.

Yeah, we need more. The few people I quoted above actually use to lament that they can't meet up with demands for their products, n I believe them because all the hotels and restaurants springing up in Imo will be in constant demand for agricultural products.

Whenever I say hospitality business, which seem to be the forte of Imo state should be focused on and improved on, some people begin to lament also. Before hand, it was just hotels, but currently, imo boasts of so many exotic restaurants with local and contimental dishes. We need to leverage of this comparative advantage.

Our people and their poor architectural designs, all these buildings would have changed the face of the state if it was well designed, with the same amount of money used, they would have at least get something like this blow. I'm not talking about the finishing but the design and not that these designs are too good but it would have been better and also would have changed the face of the school instead of looking substandard.

Yes. Although I've also been one of those arguing why only hospitality business. But when I look at it again, t might not be possible to have it all. When u work on the one u have, it'll create room for others to come in.

Imo state have chosen hospitality, with it will come agricultural boost and with time, the transport sector will also witness a boom.

Sir, I believe everyone have reasons for their designs. If your design was chosen, someone will definitely criticise with better designs. The main point is that it is being built and the design used will be able to carry out all the functions for which it is being.

Mayor.... I believe that to be Local Go erbment chairmen in our case.

I'll like to state that you don't expect it to work if funds meant for the LG are first given to SG's account then disbursed from there, which in most cases doesn't happen.

Also, IGR from LGs are first drawn to the state accounts then disbursed back to the LG from which they came.

So, in all honesty and looking at what I wrote above, ull see that the guy complaining about the neglect of Orlu is RIGHT.

U can't expect Orlu to develop if the funds it require are to be given to it by the SG which refused to do so, and even its IGR r all taken by the SG

This is why you have state and national assemblies. Their job is to pass legislation that will improve the lots of their citizens. So, if you go back and reread my comments, you'd noticed where I said that the cities and small towns should be empowered to be self sufficient in most things. I also said that the present configuration of governments we have in nigeria should be reconfigured (restructuring). Without restructuring, it's practically impossible for nigerian cities to amount to anything. Currently, they are all shiitholes. The governor of imo state cannot sit in owerri and manage other cities in the state. This is exactly what I'm saying. It will never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever work.

Scroll back several pages of this forum to see what I've been saying. In developed countries, when localities reach certain population milestone, they are given city status. Mostly, city status empowers them to do certain things, like raise their own revenues, which is then used to pay their own police officers, pay for refuse disposal and other environmental issues, pay for teachers salaries, build their own roads and enforce cities codes and ordinances (regulations). They are also responsible for building codes, where certain areas of their cities are designated for certain types of development, unlike in nigeria where shacks are springing up all around residential areas.

In developed countries, some city mayors are as powerful as state governors. In the US, city mayors of san francisco, los angeles, new york, chicago, dallas, houston etc are larger than life characters. Some of their city budgets are in the billions of dollars. Washington DC with a population of less than 700,000 has a budget of more than 4 billion dollars.

Ref: your correct statement that in developed countries, a town reaches a certain population and gets designated as CITY, takes care of itself.

It's more or less the same system in Nigeria.

in Imo state, it's over 30 years that Owerri, Orlu Okigwe and Oguta were officially designated the Urban towns of Imo state, and are supposed to be treated such.

,But politicians of the zone of Imo state capital blackmail every new governor to first develop Owerri state capital to what they say international standard, before other towns can be attended to by future governors.. They sell the FALSEHOOD to largely barely semi-literate Imolites that all over the world, state capitals are first developed by government - TOTAL FALSEHOOD. Towns develop with what they have or allocation they get from wherever source.

These Owerri politicians and later day roguish governors tactically reduce Orlu, Okigwe and Oguta to rural area status.

This thing started since Abia state was cut out from old Imo state.

A governor who is not careful, or a clowning governor, easily falls victim of this design by Owerri politicians, and loses out at last politically.
Ohakim and Okorocha were victims of this.

No body can ever have any reason to back a state governor who collects the federal allocations of Orlu LGA to build on Owerri LGA. Okorocha did this for eight years. Orlu stinks.

Okorocha govt roofed the uncompleted buildings of IMSUTH about six ears ago. Many of the roofed buildings are still empty, not converted to medical facilities they were originally designed for since then.

Chill out bro,
Don't be hesitantly judgemental,

The bone of contention is decentralizing institutions,
The first set of pictures should be the one on the boundaries between aboh and ngor kpala, while the second should be that of onuimo, as for orlu, this is a cropped out pic of owelle on inspection in that of orlu.

Watch the vid on link below, the road is getting attention, he is equally making arrangements for more blocks.

I'm surprised that Imolites are rooting for PDP, the same party that held the state in bondage for 12 years.

Funnily enough, they call Rochas a thief...Well, they should wait until Imo PDP comes into power...then they will know who the real thieves are.

PDP has worked in Enugu and elsewhere, but certainly not in Imo State

Rochas could have really made himself to mbakwe level, if not for his familicracy.

Commission of happiness- what possible purpose could such move and unnecessary appointment have made? To earn 1million a month .

Among the 3 million Imo son's and daughter he couldn't find someone else to anoint, to carry on with his projects and vision, other than his son in law?

Having said that, in all honest, Rochas actually performed, poor roads- yes, but he had a vision.

Expanded Owerri
Built 3 beautiful stadiums in record times. ( mind you , building a stadium in past administrations could have been a full 8 years achievement of a government)

Once rochas put his mind on any project, he pursues it with so much vigour, it is completed in months.

Wish he had a proper economic plan- unfortunately he does, he opened up Owerri, which help developer access land and built hotels, but there was no economic plan , for example to turn those hotel building into resorts building, and make Owerri a holiday destination and no just a weekend.

I hope the next person who takes over retain rochas building developer,
Sack the road contractors
And recruit proper economics planners

The debt profile is another issue. Imo State has lowest external debt while the domestic debt is relatively high. As at 3 years ago nobody could have believed Imo as a State would surpass other Southeast States. Okorocha is finishing very well.

Rochas is finishing better...maybe not as well as one would have liked! If those IGR 3rd quarter figures for 2018 are correct then it shows the Imo state gov't has improved its efforts to provide a conducive business climate in the state, enumerate the correct number of businesses, and tax them accordingly! Also, it shows that more of the IGR collected is being returned to gov't coffers instead of private pockets!

The Anambra, Ebonyi and Abia state gov'ts should compare notes with their Imo counterparts to see what they need to focus and improve on!

I'm with you on the bolded! The fact we want to patronise local contractors shouldn't mean we should settle for sub-standard quality!

Using local contractors that do shabby jobs that get defective after one rainy season is a false economy b'cos the gov't will still have to come back to the same road and spend more money to reconstruct it! It's better to spend good money on a qualified contractor and do the job once and for all! Of course this would mean that not as many roads will be done like before, but the few critical ones done would be done tastefully and last for much longer!

If things were being done properly in this country, then cities would have been allowed to retain at least 50% of the revenue they generate to help run the city! As with Owerri, the same case can be made for other cities in the country like Lagos, Onitsha and Port Harcourt!

Bros stop playing primitive native sense here, its only a naive fool thats decieved by grammer. How many laws, policies or system changed before Owerri became this developed? All this your noise is just for the gullible. Fact is Owerri has gotten morethan its share of Infrastructure. Not because its generating morethan other zones, it its about generation of revenue, Oguta should be a small london by now cos it has contributed morethan any zone via oil royalties.
Unless Owerri zone start singing the equity in infrastrutural developmen for all, whatever agreement to get it to govern shall fail. I have never been one to support the grip of Orlu , but my last trip really made it clear on why they feel they feel cheated. Just go to neighbouring states and observe how sincere attempt is made to get developments spread across every zone. I wont be among those asking for the return of power to Owerri anytime soon. Until you guys stop this character.
