Ishilove: Like I said, Marriage is not for everyone. If one says he must marry by hook or by crook, it's not my business. People doing what you mentioned above do it because they are diabolic, and will do it whether they're successful or not. There's enough resources in the world to satisfy man's need, but their isn't enough resources in the world to satisfy man's greed. Your choice of the word "pushes" shows you're creating an excuse for them. 1 Like |

Although I'm not from that region but I don't see any wrong with what the family wants from a suitor marrying their daughter. A Muslim man , my next flat neighbor killed five huge cows for his first daughter Nikkai wedding. Her dad is very rich and she equally married a rich young man. People on our streets complained and mocked the dad for wasting money on his first daughter who's 35 years old and where like the dad sabi show himself. But the dad replied, it's my money and my first daughter. I will spend it whichever way I like. For me, I feel the rich should marry the rich and poor marry poor. At least complains online won't arise. |

missCAPS: MEANING YOU WILL BLAME ME IF I GIVE YOUR FAMILY A DIME? HAHAHA JUST THINK. WHETHER 1 NAIRA OR 1 MILLION NAIRA IT MAKES NO SENSE PAYING TO MARRY YOUR PARTNER. SOME IGBOS CLAIM THE HUGE PAYMENT IS USUALLY TO APPRECIATE THE GIRLS FAMILY FOR RAISING THEIR OWN DAUGHTER. SO I'M WONDERING WHO GETS TO PAY THE MAN'S FAMILY FOR RAISING HIM? THIS IS NONSENSE. 3 Likes 1 Share |

CAPSLOCKED:My point here is that, some can get really outrageous. Yes it's a tradition but why shouldn't it be done within the man's convinence ? They should stop making it this ridiculous. I'm glad the TIV people have realised that anf have adjusted things, even Edo people (from a friend though) . |

Wickedness in high places. This is very common in IMO and abia States that's why their ladies are finding it difficult to get married as their men are looking elsewhere for their missing ribs. Baby mamahood if there is any word like that is now the order of the day in such places. Its time the traditional custodians of such places change these outmoded customs to reflect the current economic realities of the day. |

missCAPS: I KNEW YOU WOULD COME UP WITH THIS. I KNEW YOU WOULD PRETEND TO NOT SEE THE PART WHERE I MENTIONED THAT WHETHER ITS 1 NAIRA OR 1 MILLION NAIRA, PAYING TO BE WITH A PERSON IS NONSENSE. TRADITIONS ARE ALWAYS ABOLISHED. WHY DON'T WE KILL TWINS OR VIRGINS DURING KINGS BURIALS? IT'S NOT TRADITION, IT'S THE GREED AND ENTITLEMENT MENTALITY OF THE BLACK MAN. ONE ABNORMAL LADY IS TELLING ME TO PAY IF I REALLY VALUE THE WOMAN. SINCE I HAVE TO SHOW VALUE FOR MY PARTNER, WHO PAYS FOR MY OWN VALUE... OR ARE MEN VALUELESS?? I THINK WOMEN HAVE BEEN HAVING IT TOO EASY AND THEY WANT TO KEEP TAKING THAT RIDE. I'M NOT GOING TO BE A PARTY TO MEDIOCRITY. IN THE OLDEN DAYS, TRADITION DEMANDED THAT A MAN PAYS HEAVILY TO GET A BRIDE. AND AFTER THAT PEOPLE EXPECTED TO SEE PROOF THAT HE GOT HER WITHOUT BLEMISH (MOSTLY BY PRESENTING A STAINED BEDSPREAD THE DAY AFTER THE WEDDING NIGHT). THE SECOND PART HAS NOW BEEN RULED OUT BECAUSE OF THE DISCOMFORT IT GIVES MOST WOMEN OF TODAY, BUT YET, THEY'RE YET TO DO AWAY WITH THE FIRST PART BECAUSE IT ONLY CAUSES DISCOMFORT TO MEN AND NOT THE OTHER WAY ROUND. ABSOLUTE NONSENSE IS WHAT BRIDE PRICE IS. 1 Like |

It is not a poverty mentality. In summary even if I am the most wealthiest person on earth I and whoever I marry would not spend more than 150 thousand for marriage(just registry). My worth is not tied to money.I won't waste 200 thousand for marriage not to talk of 1 million. MRSoftapples: |

JjBankys:If a Nigerian wants to marry a foreign woman, he should do the traditional marriage as it's more respected in his culture and by his family. If he doesn't, it means he disrespects his fiancee and he disrespects his own family or to him the marriage with a foreign lady means nothing. |
