I have a GRE score of 140V & 152Q, I intended to pursue postgraduate studies in Electrical Engineering in the US. I have been searching for schools that admit within 290-300 GRE score, pls any school suggestion of that caliber is highly welcomed. Also I finished B.Eng Elect/Elect with a CGPA of 3.80/5.00 but after conversion with the WES website online, it turn out to be 3.26/4.00. pls how true is that?. Lastly, paraventure I was admitted, could such a low GRE score jeopardize my chances of getting a visa at the embassy? |

LagosismyHome: Don't mind him jare. Atleast I advised him to cancel the appointment than wasting the fee. He could have used same fee to book another appointment and go with a better school. Always good to learn from the experience of others. 3 Likes |

pflourish: Your score will not jeorpadize your chances of getting visa. You should be more worried of your chances of getting admission with that score. Though some people have gotten admission and funding with that score range, you too can but most schools have started releasing offers of admission, so have to search more for schools that still have their admission window open. You can send me a pm 1 Like |

Hello, I recently joined the discussion and I am still a newbie here. I am still trying to wrap my head around many of the procedures and requirements to study abroad I have some few questions to ask the highly esteemed nairalanders. I wish to study for an undergraduate degree in US. I have NECO as my O'level result. Does WES evaluate Neco and do US universities accept it? I have Upper Credit both ND and HND in geological engineering. However, I want to study a new course entirely for my undergraduate degree(preferably any Language related course or HR course) Do I need to evaluate my ND and HND result via WES for this undergraduate study? One of the major issues am trying sort out is how to finance my education over there. If I manage to provide proof of funds for and also pay the initial down payment for my tuition, how do I survive over dia... I need open advice from fellow nairalanders who are experienced on this. Lastly, which school will you recommend with low tuituon in US. Thanks |

LagosismyHome:Yeah, I was quite surprised when someone posted the link. But it is possible "on paper" is apt to describe it. One of the requirements is that the domestic employee will have to be paid minimum wage or prevalence wage, whichever one is higher for every hour worked. She can't meet the conditions for the "domestic help" she wants to take along. Seems it is meant for Middle East Princes and aristocrats. 1 Like |

JoeBazz: Yeah, i heard this too. My colleague at work said his brother was denied b1/b2 today. He read it in the news that trump increased visa denials by 40% from africa. Until i see proof i refuse to believe because the denial rate in africa (especially Nigeria) has always been high. |

@dipomania070 Wassup with your WES evaluation? Have you recieved the tracking number? I’ve received mine and it’s been delivered already. I think WES takes too long to evaluate documents though or I might just be overreacting. They last attended to my document (University transcript) on 1st of February and now that they’ve received the WAEC document only God knows when they’ll conclude the evaluation. I’m just trying to beat the deadline. |

Dear House, I just want to share my experience on this admissions journey thus far with the hope that someone would have had similar experience and maybe proffer a solution. I applied to a masters program with the hope of securing funding. However, few weeks after I submitted my application, SOP, recommendation letter and resume inclusive, a professor in the department reached out to me to inform me that my application is still missing my transcript and that I need to submit it ASAP so that a decision can be reached. He also mentioned that assistantships are not automatic stressing that I would have to contact the faculty member I am interested in working with and that they (faculty member) are the ones that will recommend me for funding. I was shocked because I thought assistantship would be automatic since I met their admissions requirement. I have tried to reach out 3 faculty members and only one responded to my enquiry. He requested that I send the SOP and Resume I submitted to the graduate school to him. I did but I haven’t heard from him. My issue now is this, the SOP I submitted and by extension sent to him had the name of the faculty member I originally intended to work with and I didn’t want to alter anything in the SOP since he demanded for the same one I submitted to the graduate school because he might lay his hands on it later and discover that I had to alter it and he might just be disappointed and take me for a fraud. I also don’t think it is right to contact faculty members who we don’t share similar research interest just to land an assistantship. I would really appreciate ideas or suggestion on how to proceed with the hunt for funding. Thanks. |
