SirWahl1: Where the heck are you? Black businesses are many and thriving in Houston. They even have groups and associations! |

I am specifically talking about compared to Chicago. Chicago is usually compared to New York, Boston, and other 'alpha' cities when talking about job creativity and opportunities. Totally different leagues when we are talking about jobs and major presence of large companies. radautoworks: |

Oh really? Maybe I am in and with the wrong crowd in Chicago. I really need such associations. I don’t seeing myself doing the 8 to 5 jobs for a longtime. I really want to branch out into business. I see the Mexicans and Indians run small business around but not Nigerians except of course African kitchen. Give me a mention if you have any ideas or you could throw some light on Nigerians business you see around in Houston radautoworks: |

Now this is my point. What are Nigerians into? kroger: |
Re: American, US Based, And US Aspirant Derailer Thread by kroger: 5:38pm On Feb 07, 2019 |
SirWahl1: In terms of business we do African grocery store, some do sell cars, CNA agencies and shipping business. There might be more but this is what I have seen so far .. |
Re: American, US Based, And US Aspirant Derailer Thread by Beautyaddy: 7:04pm On Feb 07, 2019 |
kroger: Oh yes, you're right. My mind omitted that. In terms of the Indians, do they own those IT, Telecommunication and Hotels? Or they work as employees for those jobs? I know that the Indians, Ethiopians and even some Arabians open Gas Stations but those Gas Stations generate more money when it comes with a mini store attached to them. Some Nigerians also open Gas Stations and Seven Eleven stores too. But the Ethiopians are more in tune with opening the Seven Elevens stores. |

kroger:yeah...import/export and all that....it’s still hard to make solid money in business here though, except you have a mighty capital. |
Re: American, US Based, And US Aspirant Derailer Thread by Beautyaddy: 7:38pm On Feb 07, 2019 |
stonemasonn: I think you're trying to compare making money in Nigeria versus the US. Remember that most businesses in the US are closely monitored by the government as well as you paying taxes to IRS Nigeria businesses have some much loop-holes that can avoid strict government over-reach and taxes. |

stonemasonn: My boss it depends on the type of business, some need Mighty capital like u said some you can start with a reasonable amount out of pocket.. But i have been making lots of research about the Beauty supply business, even if i am a guy there is serious money to be made from it, but all the same i am still weighing my options either here or naija. |
Re: American, US Based, And US Aspirant Derailer Thread by kroger: 4:46am On Feb 08, 2019 |
Beautyaddy: Personally i have never seen or met a Nigerian who owns a gas station.. The Indians own most IT agencies of which they recruit for top companies, for example i work for two IT agencies owned by Indians and placed directly with an insurance company, every hour i work they get paid $30 untop my head o lol.. Most major hotels, Super 8, Holiday inn, comfort inn etc are owned and operated by Indians, if you check the front desk of these hotels you will find an Indian symbol or statue placed some where.. |

This is pretty encouraging though but I think we have the capacity to do more. I for one have not seen a gas station owned by a Nigerian in Chicago Even the hair industry where most of the users are blacks is been dominated by the Mexicans. By the way building business here in the US or back in Nigeria which do you think is a better option Beautyaddy: |
Re: American, US Based, And US Aspirant Derailer Thread by Beautyaddy: 8:44pm On Feb 08, 2019 |
SirWahl1: Now this question will be given a subjective response and approach. If you want to build a business that requires Accountability, Quality and long term sustainability having businesses in the US is a better option but if you want businesses that do not require any accountability, is more focus on quantity rather than quality and careless about its long term sustainability than having the business in Nigeria is the option to go for. |

Sometimes I do suspect that those Samsung galaxy and iPhones being sold in Nigeria are of lesser quality and even more expensive when compared to the one sold in US or other developed countries due to the fact that Nigeria is seen as a dumping ground. Beautyaddy: 1 Like |
