[quote author=Stoicbaba post=75576517]I am happy to have stumbled on this page for a while now. Studying it as if I am preparing to write Cambridge exams Well, I hope my migrant journey starts well, taking into consideration all the information that has been shared here... I may not mention your names, but trust me, you guys are gold. Precisely on 25th Feb, I would have departed naija, enroute Blackburn, through Manchester, to begin a migrant life there. Please, do not fail to guide me whenever I beckon on you guys, especially as I feel Blackburn doesnt have much blacks living there(don't know if that statement is true though). I will specifically take note of brioche bread... I'm very sure I have seen this moniker on ARN platform during those Mison/ARN fights. So you self no gree serve your Fatherland. Welcome bro, wishing you a safe trip and a very fruitful stay here in the UK. |

Hello everyone. I am coming for my masters programme and i have a one year old dependant. A friend in d UK advised me not to bring her along with me cos of stress. Unfortunately, I can't leave her in anybody's care. How stressful is it gonna be for me especially in terms of financials ? Also what is d average school fees for my toddler? Thanks all. |

Shallypop: If you qualify, your toddler might be entitled to free education. The stress factor would be joggling toddler, school load, uk stress, cost of living, childcare needs + financial ability and capability..... |

I hold a tier 2 visa and have been in the UK for 4 months, hubby wants to visit me here but doesn't want to relocate to the UK yet due to some commitments in Nigeria. The question is what type of visa should we apply for, Visitor's visa or tier 2 defendent visa? If he's granted tier 2 dependent, can he travel in and out of the UK as much as he wants till he's ready to settle probably in one and a half years time? Pls Help 2 Likes |

Lexusgs430:Thanks for the reply. Kindly tell me the qualification for free education? I'm just a prospective International student. |
Re: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by Lexusgs430: 7:21am On Feb 11, 2019 |
mim1031: I sincerely hope he does not apply for defendant visa, not unless he wants to defend you....... On a serious matter, tier 2 dependant visa is his best option.......... He can travel in and out, so long he does not stay outside Nigeria for 2 years, without checking in....... |

Shallypop: I am sure since you are on a student visa, your child is qualified for free education..... |
Re: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by LagosismyHome(f): 8:06am On Feb 11, 2019 |
Shallypop: Your child does not qualify for anything until the child is 3 then you can get between 15 hours free. Some 2 year old get but not someone on a student visa..That a no no as that is classified as public funds . It is at 4 years that your child can start free education in a primary school on a student visa Dependant (9 to about 3pm) For a one year old . It will be private nursery or childminder or nanny. Neither of these 3 are cheap and the cost depends on where you live. For nursery in london i paid about 1k per child per month for full time nursery (8am to 6pm) 6 Likes |

Not sure if naija driving experience counts. If you had insurance with your vehicle before leaving, you can politely ask them damoche64: |

Shallypop: Childcare is expensive and everything here is charged per hour. For example for 1,000 a month that about 20 working days making it £50 per day and 8am to 6pm is another 10 hours so essentially £5 per hour. But every area different some charge much more. Mine was actually £64 per day so note some month have 23days working days but some months are 20 days . If you need less hours and can find a child minder that might help .... if you dont have class every day too . But overall until a child is 4, childcare cost is not cheap. As a student it very difficult except if the child was over 4years. Some people can find someone cheaper under the table to childmind. If you see that , might be cheaper 1 Like |

LagosismyHome:Thanks once again. I don't think I can afford bringing her along with such amount of bills. Considering the fact that I will be an international student. Hubby wouldn't stay cos he works here. Maybe just visiting. |

Shallypop: I think it good you come first, settle and then look around to see if you find something affordable ...i have heard how some where the grandma is around anf charge 10 pound a day . You never know what you find |

Shallypop:I know how difficult it is to leave a year old baby behind and masters in the UK is not any easier. if you decide to come with the baby then you need someone to take care of him/her. as earlier mentioned, no tier 4 student is entitled to free childcare until the child is 3 so the option available is to enrol the baby in a nursery. There are council child care centres which are less expensive, at least i got one where i was to pay £30/day and 18 for half day in scotland. if you ask around you might just get one this cheap and you may decided to enrol for 2-3days a week while you jugle other days. You can also make friends in church if you are a christian and overtime see who can help you look after the child for sometimes while you in the uni. I hope you find away around this. 1 Like |

Try aviva, they accept Nigerian travel history. My last quote from them was over £300 less than what was quoted by other companies and my excess is just £100 sef. They are not on comparison sites so you have go direct to their website. Inkredible: 3 Likes 3 Shares |
