As much as i have huge love and respect for some men of God, i just can't place why they're involved in building tertiary schools when they can't make it affordable for their members and nigerians at large...it become worrisome to know that this institutions are build by "contributions/donations" from their members. I strongly believe there are viable options to hleping to build our educational systems that'll make it affordable to all instead of giving us the excuse of "cost of maintaining higher institution is expensive"

How about each church adopting a public institution, contribute toward her infrastructural and educational development while also monitoring seeing to the welfare of their members in such institution.
How about giving out scorlarship to brilliant members to study in our good public institution while also supporting the not so brilliant once. ...busary awards to less privileged members as well as monitoring their progress... e.t.c..

Many churches are already doing that. They give scholarship to brilliant students. Living faith for example gives scholarship to study postgraduate degree for students with first class.
Tertiary education isn't cheap anywhere in the world. The top universities in the world are owned by churches. The aim of those universities( Nigeria to be precise) is build men with sound character and moral with sound Christian doctrine. This is what is lacking in many public universities.

It's capital intensive to run private higher institutions in Nigeria. And the only way to pilot the affairs Of these schools is through fees and sometimes via donations which is inadequate compared to state and federal universities who rely on federal and state government for support.

First of all, the church is not your government. Second of all, how much do you pay in church? Third of all, did the church pledge any allegiance to help your life? Fourth of all, is the church an orphanage home for the poor? Fifth of all, did you give the church any money to build any building, how much is your tithe, how much do you pay as offering?

Please be wise this 2019, men of God sew seeds that are worth millions to several nations and to organizations. They also embark on philanthropic activities. They don't get money from the skies.

Las las your President only has a purported secondary school certificate while the VP has a PhD, that doesn't mean everyone should stop schooling at secondary school. Stop making reductive statements because some of those that paid 1.4 will still employ thousands that pay 25,000 likewise some that paid 25,000 will even employ those that paid 1.4 million.

The common justification is that of "spreading gospel" but we know practically speaking, it's either not entirely true or the products are not significantly different from public institutions after all we have campus fellowships and churches in our public institutions too.

If you read my line of thought very well, you'll understand I just don't see why it's necessary for churches to go into building universities that won't have direct benefits to her members and Christians at large. As far as I'm concerned, there are so many other beneficial ways churches can help build the educational systems some of which I've highlighted above.
Finally, I want you to know that almost all public institutions in Nigeria are heavily subsidised so that it can be affordable to more nigerians. If govt can do that, churches are expected to do more with her universities. If the running cost won't allow them, then starting it all together seems to me as a wrong priority. Shalom!

I don't have a problem contributing to what doesn't serve me or my family directly, so I would continue to contribute to churches even if they build schools that I wouldn't attend. If you have a problem with what the church is spending on then stop contributing.

Ask yourself how much would it cost for you to get a one room apartment in Lagos with all your utilities covered(electricity, waste disposal etc) and juxtapose that with fees people pay in private universities. I had a whole full room to myself in my final year in Covenant with electricity supplied, water, security, internet and cleaning services provided. How much would I get that in Lagos? And I got all that with 500,000 naira in addition to an education. That 500,000 is what would cost me to rent a one room apartment without electricity paid for in some parts of Lagos.

Living faith by itself paid $1 million to journal subscription alone in 2018 and another $1 million for data analytics for Covenant. So just know that the so called high school fees doesn't even cover half the cost.

The government subsided public universities yet they chunk out half baked graduate on yearly basis except for few that are exceptional good in skills. The government subsided public universities yet the institutions lack facilities for research. You see students contributing money to buy public address system, marker, and other materials for practicals. Isn't it shameful?. My friend running his PhD in Babcock didn't pay a dime to carry out laboratory test on his research whereas his brother paid money and even lobbied his way into the lab. Church doesn't have that capacity to subsized tuition fees because it will affect the standard. Their schools will be worst than public schools should they embark on such project. The salaries for academic and non academic staff is not up to the fees many public universities generate in a year in some Christian universities. That is aside other expensives. If the church rely on donations only to fund their schools, they will go bankrupt.

Churches in the western world don't need to fight poverty and lack of their members because the government is working well over there and almost everything is provided for so they can afford to spend their money whatever they feel like whether biblical or not(but some of them are using if wisely on foreign missions and evengelism). We're losing priority by copying them here. We have a more serious challenges to deal with here instead of building universities that isn't beneficial to her members. My original argument is not even against the building those higher institutions of learnings but in the way it's not affordable to the Christian majority. so if it cannot be made affordable, it's just not neccessary; it's a misplaced priority.

Yes many of these respected preachers finished from public universities no doubt. This same public universities isn't same where they meant it. The system is so bad that many graduate now have corrupt mind. This was one of the reasons that necessitate the establishment of church university.

Education is not free neither is it cheap anywhere in the world. Quality education is what church university are offering which is lacking in many public universities in Nigeria. Many Nigerians are not willing to support church university that is why the fees are high. The ideal thing is public private partnership but many are not ready for it.

And still yet, after spending such amount of money, they leave them to their fate to go and look for job and still bring the money back and enroll for their postgraduate studies.

I had an oportunity to be interviewed with a former colleague who finished in CU then for a job of 45k as a call centre agent.

We eventually got the job, though she's sound and intelligent, but 45k after spending such amount of money on school fees?
