I wish you guys a Happy New year and what a way to start the year. Ok so i've been away for a while trying to up my game in the animation world and it's as usual been a wonderful experience. I cant wait to show you guys what i've picked up so far. But that isn't happening until i finish this recent shot and it's a dialogue. Anyways, i've began prepping and i'm almost ready to go.
I'm done with the rendering of the fighting shot i did and had planned to create two short animes for november and december. It didn't happen, because i kept on breaking protocols and codes. I started doing things i put the axe to. Anyways it wasn't entirely that bad because i learnt/gained something from them too.
Well this time, i'll be using the 3Dsmax custom bones rig. I've got me a new model, rigged it and about rounding up its morph targets. I've not skinned nor textured. I also used this time to improve on my modelling. Basically the edge flows. Anyways, enough talk and i'll see you guys some other time and soon.
Shout out to nijabazzar, cgniyi and shimish and all you other great guys out there. This year is gon be awesome.

Honestly, I was indoors for most of last year focused solely on my freelancing gig. So I haven't really witnessed the level of progress you speak of.

Only event I went to last year was Lagos Comic Con and the most impressive works were the 2d animations. Most of them were very polished and even good to compete with their foreign counterparts. The 3d stuffs weren't there yet.

Hopefully, this year I find time for personal work and post more this year.

I was of same opinion too until I joined a group out of curiosity. They model mostly and they are really good. I mean they'll give the bestest in Nairaland a serious run for their money. One of dem appears n disappears here too.
I haven't really seen any gud traditional animation too, wether 2 or 3D. I think we'll pick up soonest. Would have luvd to pick up 2D myself but, I don't really have dat time now. I'm also considering Freelancing strongly. Can you please gimme any pointers been a pro in dat area?
Re: My Animation Reidvolution by cgniyi(m): 1:38pm On Jan 21, 2019
I freelance mostly on Fiverr ( Upwork is another option). Just register and set up your "gig" ( basically the service you offer )

You can use other gig pages in the 3d modelling section to get an idea of how to set up your gig.

Once you've set up your gig , the best place to start is the "Buyer's Request" section. This is where buyers list jobs for sellers to bid for. Usually buyers will go for the cheapest offers, so
it's best to charge the lowest possible as a new seller.

This is just a summary. There are threads dedicated to this topic in the Business section.

If there are any other questions you may want during the process of setting up, I can answer them here.

Hello guys and its been a while. I've been around and always busy like other serious CG artists on this forum but rarely have dat time to post anything. Ok, so after the Fight Animation i did, i said i'll be doing dialogue. Well it turns out that i made it into a praise song. And talking about praise, i really am grateful to God for all i've been able to learn in the trade, hence this piece. Well, as usual, its a 3dsmax production and a scanline renderer. i hurriedly put the video together so i can get into something new.

And yeeeaahhhhh, i'll be coupling the fight animation as well so stay tuned.

This is super good.

My belle is laffing.

I like how you narrowed down to animation as a skillset. I neva believe in this "Generalist" thing every Nigeria guy is talking about

To be really good at something, requires a lot of time and concentration. Then one may naturally tilt towards a particular area of discipline for specialization.
There are people that are fair on all ramifications but are rare. And even them will find it difficult pulling off a very nice shot with everything looking nifty as it's supposed to. Still, in dis year, I'll be doing a lot more of Modelling and texturing even if it means meddling with different Apps.
Re: My Animation Reidvolution by reidkrugger(m): 9:41pm On Mar 18, 2019
I am supposed to return to construction this month but the love for animation just keeps making making me drag my feet. Especially, as I've learnt alot more, after my last shot. I just feel like letting d world know dat Nigerians too can do this. Anyways, na small small sha. CGI in Naija must stand.
Today I'll be talking about my challenges on d last shot. First of which is d modelling. I learnt pretty much in dis field and was beginning to get a hang of it before rigging showed up.
Rigging is fun. prior to animating u get to set up things and see how they work and what to expect. However, I learnt dat keeping things really simple in a rig will yield better results. So for next time, apart from d torso which d spline ik takes care of, every other thing na regular bones. including d fingers. The wrists are exceptions because of gimbal locks and stuffs. So they'll be scripted as usual.
The next shot would again be a dialogue and I'm thinking a song but NO. YES, NO. I'll probably pick a straight dialogue where there is much more freedom to do as I please. But if I don't do a straight and it turns out to be a song, then it has to be Fela's. Yeah, the Legend. After which I'll take a break for a while till say July or so.
Now, when I come back... It's going to be straight CG effects in your faces all through mixed with cartoon animations. And dats assuming I become d monster I hope to be by then. So for now, lemme try coupling d fight animation and see if I can make a story out of it. See you soon and keep animating.
Now, you see me.

Hello gang and welcome back to my Animation Redvolution series. As usual i've been working on improving my skills and focusing on creating better animations and its been a hectic one but promising and now, after a gruesome period of learning honing, i am back to share my experience. As usual.
Ok so still on dialogue and after the last one i posted here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REGUZj5CPs8, i decided to quickly pack together the fight animation i did. It's about 3mins of animation, still i thought to myself, why not make a story out of this? Hmmm, not a bad idea especially as im still working on improving my dialogue. So i went back to fight video. Added another character to the mix, this time a female and i began animating away. I created two different scenes to introduce the fight and that served as the exercise for finessing my skill.
My focus here is purely animation so, i didn't care much about the environment. Anyways, i'm done with it and will be rendering as usual with the 3dsmax scanline renderer. Why? Because its fast. Not on par with te Mental ray counterpart but you have to sacrifice something for another sometimes.
Anyways, below are shots taking from one of the scenes.

My goal is to successfully shift gears into CG. Imagine having a Gorilla or our own kind of Dragon on screen. Imagine having our own deities slug it out in an Avenger styled super hero battle. On screen, where anything is possible grin. Or our own fast and furious where the cars are not actually there, just animated and textured models camera matched to a shot. That's what i'm talking about. It starts with little things such as these straight into the BIG Screens.
If you are here crying about power or internet then i'm sorry, because we as a country have a long way to go and you as an individual lacks the drive to learn. There is no time to sit down and cry. Every single thing animated opens doors for improvement with a mind of going through it the hard way, which is the traditional way to Animate. It betters you as an animator and improves your confidence level. So, spend alot of time honing your skills because their is no other way to been a good Animator other than that.

Ok, so I added some two or three additional scenes, still keeping things simple asides animating. Still, some improvements were recorded throughout d exercise and I tried my hands on lighting and rendering. Very nice experience but I don't think i'ld like to focus on mental ray right now for Animation. Still images, maybe but not animation. I never get d patience to de render 8mins plus per frame.
Alright, so been very comfortable animating, I also tried environment matching. There are so many lovely tricks to d trade and r shortcuts to real thing. Alot of people probably would pick a video, hurl it into a 3d software and begin animating to it. Its good and fast especially if d video reacts to d animation. For instance, a video where u have people running and a gorilla or gator just gets animated into d scene. Well dats d least and it's better than nothing in CG.
The real thing however would require "Camera matching". It's a process dat takes u to d Field and have u take actual measurements during d course of d live footage so u can take dis data and input all d CG effects required when u get back to d studio. Note, u'll have to work with d film crew on dis one. And dats when d true beauty of CG can really be appreciated.
Anyways and for now, I'm working on my speed as I keep refining my skill. To survive in dis industry, in a country like ours, you'll have to double up as four to five individual artists if u want to affect anything.
My next stop would be mixing stuffs with a bit of environmental matching Aaaaannnddd, I'm going full throttle on d social media cyber space. Let's go shake some tables.

Hi. Hmmm let's start with your questions.
Currently, I'm on an HP i7 6gigvram 320Hd and 3 extra external drives of higher capacity. d drive came with d PC dats y it's still there. will change it soon plus would upgrade to probly a 12gigvram by nxt mth or so wen I intend to go serious on CGI. it also has a gig graphics card. I think it's useless tho.

I learnt on my own from scratch and has taken me around 7yrs of everyday learning. it's tough and learning how to animate has very less support and difficult.

I see Udemy online but I dunno what they r capable of. Unless they r digital tutors or something like dat, then u have my nod.

Creating series of Animation is good. that's where I'm headed now and more. So nice thinking but for a newbie as u say u are, I'll advice u take ur eyes of money and mocap. Go through it d hardest way u can. Reason is, if u drill yourself very well, you will b limitless when it comes to creating anything. Or almost anything. Your dependency on Mocap will be at a minimum and you'll be more confident and independent. Plus d more money you are bound to make.

You have to be extremely patient, persistent and disciplined. With focus been d the watchword. Animation is tough, especially when you are looking at it from d point of a global scale. A lot here, have tried. A lot also have fallen. Animation is a jealous Discipline.

These are my advices.
