I never admitted to myself that I am depressed, until a friend said it to me point blank that you are depressed and you have to do something about it.
I am a 25 year old single mother with twin babies living with my parents. I got pregnant when I was 19 years. fresh in the university and gave birth to twin babies for an irresponsible father. As a result I graduated with a 3rd class in the university. now 3 years out of university no well paying job, plus pressure from my parents to go back to the father of the twins, and get married which is impossible.
Although my parents and siblings are very supportive but till when will I continue living with my parents, because the job I got cannot even take care of me talkless of my babies, and no hope of marriage now because most guys are only coming around cos of sex and nothing else, coupled with the fact that I am an introvert.

Very interesting thread.
I am only depressed when I over spend more than my income.

I am usually very positive even under negative circumstances.

Getting older comes with a huge risk of being depressed. Events happening in different stages of life will ALWAYS bring depression. Do not make it a permanent condition. Recognize that you are depressed, find out why and then fight it by staying positive and keeping an active social life. Do not isolate yourself and die SLOWLY in silence. kiss

ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION MUST COME.

First, is trying to graduate.

Second, is trying to secure a stable employment.

Third, is maintaining a balance between work and home lives. Marriage becomes a true test of commitment. Single people battle depression too. Especially as single parents or with lack of reliable partners.

Fourth, is taking care of aging parents while trying to raise your own kids with very limited resources.
Health status of loved ones I worry about.

Finally, failing health, the loss of independence and loneliness that comes with old age.

Depression will come for sure, but how you handle it is going to be the deal-breaker.

I take one day at a time.
I do my best and leave the rest.
Stay positive in every negative situation. kiss

I was heading to 19 when I gained admission, and even at that I was among the youngest in class. Personally I feel parents are rushing their children too much these days

No they are not abeg. A child should duly graduate at 22 , do nysc at 23.

A lady who graduated at 19 or 20 would be serious with her life at an early stage. If I graduated at 20, I would be 100X times in a better place in my life RN.

Unemployment..
Losing my job late last year was a very low low point for me
Coping with life as an unemployed single mother..Taking the responsibility of a child alone..
9/10 out of every man out there just want to mess with your body cos they're of the opinion that you shouldn't have a choice as a single mom...And not all single mothers are promiscious...some are just victims of circumstances
It's really depressing.
But my child keeps me going.
2019 I strongly believe will be a positive turning point for me..
Amen to ur prayer, continue to be positive minded and eveything would be fine at the end.

Where do i start from?

Dropped out of school at 500L due to bad grades.

And having to start again 8 years since my 1st admission.

Coping tho, but these constant thoughts of disappointment always come coupled with the fact that i am an introvert and i am so freaking lonely in school (no friend coupled with course mates calling uncle which makes me feel old and the feel that i wasted my youth life, should have graduated at 23 now i will at 28)

Enduring tho, and hoping to finish by '21 and also hopefully travel abroad finally after 2 visa rejections.

Hi, if the school didn't ask you to drop out due to bad grades, I would have suggested you finish the course and get the cert even if the grade is nothing to write home about. If done that way the period you're intending to spend in getting another degree can then be converted into learning something else that is both profitable and could aid your intending travel plan.

It's hard to be in a class with people you're older than but it is possible and can be very helpful in upping your academics. You have to make friends with the smashers and matured ones among them, you'll be surprised to find their are some people who are your age mates in that same class. When i was in my final year in school we had guy who were between 26-30, irrespective of age they were willing to learn from those who were younger than them and it paid off.....it's not easy though but it can be done, you need to keep that bad feeling far away and make friends, even if it's solely for information's sake.

On the issue if travelling abroad, I'll suggest you visit and keep in touch with the travel section of nairaland. There's a wealth of information over there. You would find info on almost all classes of visa for various countries.
I can bet that if you read through that section and follow religiously on the type that suits you most, you won't get another denial.

Cheers smiley

Plenty people dey this lane o chairman. Forget all the social media on fleek pictures that you see, there's hunger and anger in the land.

Some people say that it's when you're down, broke and hungry that ideas that can work begin to enter your head. I think it's time for you to try another method. What do I mean?

Write down all the things that you can do legally that'll fetch you money if you were in a place where you're not known both menial, blue collar or white collar.

Change your location and engage in the one you consider best.

Thanks so much.

The reason i dropped out was because i wasn't in tune with the course (engr faculty) again, hardly do i understand when i try to read. If i try to complete the cert like that it might take me up to 4 semesters, so that's why i waived it off to start all over again.

The travel plan is what made me go back to school again, so that i can easily travel abroad through student visa. And its not actually a biggie, because my brothers are there, so i am just waiting to finish up here, but the waiting is what's causing the depression.

Nice.

Have you thought of doing something by the side just to whirl away time? It maybe a job, a business, a skill, a course etc

Lovely thread.

God has blessed me with a heart like rubber band. Even in the face of difficulties i always find strength to stay positive. I remember, ten years ago, when my mum lay in my hands gasping for breath and battling with death, I felt a certain kind of detachment and calm because I had this unshakable faith that my mum would live. I called my sister, and on hearing the sound of my mother gasping in the background, she immediately burst into tears. That is only when tears came to my eyes too. I cried because my sister cried.

That's me. I become depressed when my loved ones are sad. I am depressed when I can't make the ones I care about happy. I am depressed when I feel like I can do more for others but am unable to because of circumstances. 80% of what I aim for in life is geared to making my family happy because I live for them. Without them I am a leaf blown by the wind. Without them I will lay down, close my eyes and not open them until I fade away to nothingness. My deepest fear in life is losing any of them, and that is what depresses me the most. The thought alone fills me with a horror so intense that I want to pull my hair and scream.

However, as T. S Elliot wrote, 'life you may evade, death you shall not.' I recognise the ultimate denouement of every man, but I also recognise that we cannot live immersed in thoughts of our failures or fear of things going wrong, or in depression that nothing is going according to your best laid plans. Biblical Job remarked in despair "that which I feared the most has come upon me!", so kukuma live life to the fullest. Take your failures, disappointment, heartaches, inadequacies to the jungle gym of life and use them as weights to build up your muscles.

We were created to learn and each experience should be a lesson, whether good or bad. It's hard, but chin up! Las las we go dey alright. kiss

One of my biggest problem is having lots of stuffs on my mind and not focusing on one, in the end I get nothing done.

I will suggest you pick one and run with it. I would suggest graphic design if you have the creative mind for it, as it's something you can combine with school work and can generate funds a lot in a school environment.

One of the big causes of depression is addiction.
And when I am talking about addiction, let me make it clear that one can get addicted to objects or events. Whether it is drug, alcohol, gambling, starving, over eating, sex, excessive spending (the list can go on and on), as long as it hinders you from living life, making a living, interacting socially etc, it is an addiction and you have to deal with it.

The moment you admit it is an addiction and a problem, you are on your way to recovery.

No matter the kind of addiction you are going through, you need a support system to make it through the recovery process. You need to be accountable to someone.

You need to identify your ritual. This will help you a lot. There are specific activities that you engage in before you practice that addiction.

Once you identify those rituals, you can then change them with other set of rituals.

This way, you can better recover from addiction.
If you need further help with this, feel free to contact me. I will help you with the process.

My deepest fear is war, hunger, starvation and not being free to worship my God in Nigeria, I spend my nights praying for this country cos that's the only way I know these sad events can be avoided,I can't bear the thoughts of loosing my loved ones or seeing horror movie in real life. My second fear and source of depression is whether I would ever find a perfect fit for me in terms of my beta half. I once had true love but we had to part ways cos of religion, since then to see one who would perfectly complement me is so totally hard, am not too picky , I jes need some certain attributes. Is that too much to ask? ?

Sometimes the very perfect person for you is just around you but you may never know because his physical appearance might not attract you. Its only when you give that person a chance you will see that the inside is exactly what you want and then you can teach the person to work on the outside.

whao nice thread.

I am not depressed though but I had great potential and I made some bad choices when I was a teen, sometimes I wish I could move back the hands of time.

Had a potential of joining the Army at a young age when Nigeria was still good, had an offer from a senior officer to be my guarantor turned it down for predegree.

Had an offer to go study in US when I was in 100L turned it down because I was afraid to start all over again and I didn't want to take the risk of the unknowing.

My greatest down fall in life currently is putting family first before myself. If I want to do anything I have to think of my family first if they will like me to be far away or listen to them when they say I shouldn't go else but stay close to home.

I have decided by the end of this year to put my self first even if it's to run away and start my family afresh, I want to take the risk and damn all consequences grin
