Goodmorning beautiful people ,i love the work you guys are doing here thanks and God bless. Please i am confused and need the best suggessions ,please dont read my post and pass without helping. I am a mum of two toddlers 4 and 3 years old and we have a running b1/b2 vis a and plan to further my studies in the usa ,i have a bachelors degree in chemistry from a nigerian university with a gpa of 2.6/5.0 .My initially plan was to go for my masters in chemistry but i feel it will be very tasking and almost impossible running a masters with 2 kids all by myself and the possibility of getting a good paying job is not that high and someone suggested my going for my PHD after my masters,im not sure i want to spend that long schooling,my second option is to go apply to a community college for a chemistry programme (just to get a an f1 visa at the embassy),or do i just get to the us and then get a school and apply for a f1 visa instead of passing through all the hurdles in nigeria embassy then when i get to the usa i change it to nursing (run a 2 year programme in nursing ) and upgrade my RN to BSN with time. I still dont know if this is a better option for me and please what are the best ways to get assistantship for this programmes. please help me out.

Most schools don't have separate application for Graduate Assistanship. So it's awarded to those admitted to a degree program. For schools that have separate application, you can apply for GA after you have gotten admission as your student number will be requested when you are filling the assistantship form.
thanks for the reply. Really appreciate. Will chill until I get admission then.

From what I have read here, conversion from B1/B2 visa is a tough prospect so I think traveling with your B1 then changing to F1 over in the states might not be an option.

Going for Msc with that cgpa should be possible but Assistantship may not be possible with that cgpa but u may write GRE and ace it well to increase ur chances of an Assistantship. Taking care of two children, Msc + Assistantship duties won't be a an easy task if u wanna get good grades.

Since u already have a BSc in Chemistry and u are interested in Nursing, I would advice you go for an accelerated nursing degree in the Usa. They allow you into the program with a Bsc degree then u complete like 4 semesters or more to get a Bachelors nursing degree. Not all schools offer it but u have to Google and check requirements for accelerated nursing degree in those schools. I think you should be able to defend the reason you are goin for an accelerated nursing program at the embassy as chemistry is a research course and nt a career course like nursing that will boost your job/career prospects.
I know Truman state university has an accelerated degree program in nursing but u have to read info thoroughly on their web page, mail and call them to fully understand the process. Understanding the info about their accelerated nursing degree is a bit tough, I am trying to do the same for my sister with a kid also.

But pls research other schools that offer accelerated nursing as their process might be easier than Truman state's own.

Concerning Assistantships, it's virtually impossible, but scholarships might be an option but I would erase that cuz of ur cgpa.
I hope gurus in the house would contribute and give you other options.
All the best ma'am!!!

According to
http://www.ustraveldocs.com/ng/ng-niv-typefandm.asp
The requirements is..

"Financial and any other documents you believe will support your application and which give credible evidence that you have enough readily-available funds to meet all expenses for the first year of study and that you have access to funds sufficient to cover all expenses while you remain in the United States."

The fund in the account should definitely cover at least your first year tuition and living fee as stated on your I-20 but you must also have access to funds that cover all expenses while your schooling in the state.
A statement that covers only your first year may not be sufficient, probably a statement that covers at least two years or more... My opinion tho, you can get better light from the requirement above.

If you already have a bsc in chemistry then this option of applying to a CC just for sake of f1 visa is not so easy neither is changing b1b2 to F1 ...

sorry but you have two options either write GRE or look for other schools which does not require GRE. Its a no brainer and if you choose the latter, then you have lost your application fee for the previous. That's why it's good to be thorough when researching on schools down to the tiniest of details to avoid stories that touch.

I think you should carry out the research yourself using Google. You really don't want to make another mistake based on another person's recommendation. A simple "MSC MATHEMATICS WITHOUT GRE USA" Would bring out some options if they are available.
