Why not start with your own challenges?
Oh, you haven’t lived out before?
Re: Nairalander In Diaspora, What Re Your Greatest Challenges by Nobody: 7:17pm On Mar 02, 2019
1.Getting true love where you don't need it and finding it difficult to get true love where you need it.
2. When you actually find it (as your mind tells you), the time to water the LDR becomes a problem. (depending on your career and timezone though)
3. People expect to much from you especially family and friends but are ready to contribute so little or nothing.
4. People waste and mismanage what you work so hard to bring home.
The list goes on.

Mine is the people, trying to understand and relate with them although the system puts so much pressure on people which depresses them as a result. So leaving the nigerian way of communal living and coming to place where there are so many rules and regualtions even the questions you would ask someone in a social gathering was typed before hand lol

Language barriers
Children might be lost to western cultures
Unexplained beliefs by folks back home that those abroad swim in luxury and can send money anytime they request for it. cheesy

My only challenge was the weather and how the cold extended my sleeping hours.
Other than that I went there for schooling purposes so adjusting to the student life was an easy routine.
The biggest challenge apart from the cold was 24/7 electricity.
It took six months to completely adjust to the weather but eight full months to get used to electricity never blinking.

Finding a great barber. Spent CAD$61 yesterday trying to get a good haircut. Hoping spring arrives quickly and the chilling winter cold gone forever.

Challenges ... good question

Learning the language, finding a job due to racism, getting my certificates recognized took time. Fulfilling requirements to get a long term residence permit.

Then finding real friends. Most Nigerian fellows do criminal things, better keep away.

Raising kids without family support. It's not like Nigeria where your whole family lives around the corner. Here everybody minds his business. If your kid is ill you gotta stay home, which causes stress at work sometimes.

And now the good sides:

Electricity and internet access all the time, good schools, good health care. And people are nice too if you understand the system.

Yea - I have friends and acquaintances that are shocked. When I was in Nigeria I cut my hair twice a week coz I take my appearance seriously. Here the barbers are not so good or they make good money and are not customer centric. Anyways I got to find a better barber yesterday but I have to travel 45Km. Well, that’s what I really miss from Nigeria. Quality barbers at an arm stretch.

Also, I miss Naija bars, cat fish pepper soup and suya. If you want a quality bar, you book an appointment and get a table reserved, even at clubs. Quite the opposite in Nigeria where you walk in and your money do most of the talking. If you don’t make reservations, you better pray the weather is so horrible that people don’t turn up else no hope.
