Yep, my imbox is replete with birthday wishes and the 'dear' word attached from female friends both known and unknown. It's totally harmless. I use to freak out or get jealous when guys use it on my babe. She does it too. Until I realised there's nothing to it. Though some dudes or ladies go want to dey form familiarity with am. Especially when they use dearest

Sometimes, I see many girls I don't know say 'Dearie' to me. While I ignore such words, some other guys can misinterprete them.

So, I don't think it's really necessary for a lady to use it on a guy she's not close to.

I don't think the girl meant any harm.I too address my friends as dear.Both single and married.And I also send my wishes to them same way 'happy birthday dear' There's nothing attached to it.The woman is over reacting and just being insecure.
Note:I'm also married. My husband knows that's the way I address my friends and he doesn't complain.
The one I wouldn't tolerate is a girl addressing my husband as 'baby' or 'my love'.I wouldn't confront the girl like the woman,but I will ask my husband who the girl is and what business they have.
