Every single South African Infantry battalion (motorized) is 100% armored - be it in Ratels (1 200), Casspirs (370) or Mamba's (440). The landcruisers are used for border duties where there is zero risk of ambush or mines.

So like I said, 100% armored. Deployment is a non-starter, they have the equipment and when they deploy they deploy with it.

Yet in the DRC and the CAR South-African soldiers have deployed in Pick-up trucks.

The point i was, still am making is apart from Egypt i don't think there's any other African country that can deploy all it's troops engaged in military operations in armour.

Light Skin vehicles provide advantages of armour in many areas. In Syria, Somalia and Nigeria we've seen terrorists attack garrisons and outposts to devastating effects.

They were able to achieve these because they can attack an FOB from different directions at the same time with heavy firepower and leave the area before air support by own troops can be called in.

Compared to armour, light skin vehicles can deploy quicker, are less expensive, can withstand harsh terrain and can provide the same amount of firepower as some armoured vehicles.

Anyway, let's agree to disagree.

Yes, SAAF security units on the airbase in Goma and support staff in Sudan use them. All combat troops are equipped with either MRAP's or IFVs. As I have said the standard ORBAT for any South African combat formation is 100% armor. Not a question of opinion, but one of fact.

You can only agree to disagree on questions of opinion. Every single combat formation in the SANDF is completely armored. This is a question of fact.

Imagine guys like these attacking an outpost.

I could just imagine the mayhem they would create.

Mortars and small arms will be all it takes to stop them. Hence why they are used in border patrol and not a more conventional force.

I've always wondered, what's the essence of the "rope" that's usually attached to 9mm side arms?

The Navy SBS also has it attached to his pistol.

So that it doesn’t get lost if suddenly dropped or something like that - they are climbing all over ships and man-handling people so it would happen quite frequently.

It also makes it harder to disarm him.

The G12 cannot replace the landcruiser in that role in the northern region. That particular land cruiser is purpose built to work in extremely harsh environment.

The GI2 can only replace the land cruiser if it is deeply adapted for those conditions.
are you saying the G12 can't be tweaked to the land cruiser specs

61mech claimed furiously that you would never see a South-African soldier wearing them. He and Patches689 claimed it was not a camouflage and counter-productive, yet low and behold a South-African marine using the same maligned face mask.

I don't think i have seen a goal post moved in this manner before.

OK then.

The Nigerians were Air Force personnel, not soldiers.

They were also posing for a photo, not active duty.
