Time2win: It because you are leaving the word Science out ......... The i20 said Liberal arts and science . Also for Undegrad , their major is not even so much of an issue . They have 4 years to decide Also VO knows it , a school can pick the umbrella and not the exact match......... |

Gcodded: No wonder. I have a friend who encountered same issue. He applied for bsc computer information system and but got business/commerce written on his i20. Since you applied for computer science, explain to the V.O the course you applied for which is computer science and say its under liberal arts and science college. Go with your admission letter too. University of Wisconsin-Madison is a very good school, you will get your visa. 3 Likes |

AgreatMan: I think it is very wrong to make this statement without knowing the qualities of the person in question. Have you seen the video of the poster? Do you know if he is NBA quality already? Even if he is not as good as other applicants, some times (in fact, a lot of times), luck plays a big part in these decisions. Mr. Poster, don't let anyone limit your goal. Apply to whatever program you want to and if you get rejected, activate a plan B or retry again. Don't let anyone limit your opportunities or make you feel you are not good enough. If your dreams do not scare you, you are not dreaming at all 2 Likes |

Gcodded: Hi, I don't think you should be bothered by this. Go to the interview well prepared. And yes, tell the VO your real course. Give very solid answers to every question you are asked. Look confident. If the VO raises questions about what is written on the i20, tell the VO that "my program is Computer Science and under the SEVIS(or whatever) classification in my school, it is categorized as liberal arts and sciences. Feel free to make further inquiries from my school if you need further clarification". This way, you are putting the ball in the VO's court and the VO will not need to make further clarification cos he/she knows you know what you are saying. In summary, I don't think this is an issue. Your school is UW-Madison which is a solid school, especially in CS. You have nothing to worry about. 1 Like |

Guys gotta hustle. The time will come when priority shifts, when coming here will no longer be a priority on the list of our to-dos. I don't know what is happening with these guys, but I have a feeling they got a lot and better things to do and the time is so short. I know they are doing great. America life no easy, and you self know. LagosismyHome: 1 Like |

Sorry about the denial. It happens! Well, if you need effective help, especially for preparation for the next interview, kindly post your transcript along with your academic profile. Until you do so, you may not get the type of help you need from here. Students going for F1 should be concise, conscious. Kindly post your proposed transcript and your profile. icagbons: |

The focus should not just be about getting admission and securing scholarships. Do work on your confidence for the interview too. You could get funding and still be refused if you refuse to do your homework. 3 Likes |

Hi everyone, I was denied visa in January, so I deferred my admission but unfortunately I can't use the same sponsor I used in January, as I plan to go for another interview in may, I will like to know if I can change my sponsor and what kind of excuse I can give the Vo, cuz I think telling the Vo the real reason(money has been moved from the account) is not wise, please help @fairheart @lagosismyhome |

bracelum: It is because of our failure to manage expectations, that's why there r lots of frustrated youths in Nigeria. Let's examine d words in your reply Luck, this is what our traditional institution n religion sell to our people everyday. Nobody wants to work again. Everyone is expecting to get lucky n pick a bag of money on d road like Success. if you get rejected If u were so sure about his profile, u wouldn't even mention rejection. I was sure of what he is walking into. plan B or retry again. Plan B is not always a fall back plan. Sometimes, it runs simultaneously with plan A. I have told him to ace his SAT n apply to multiple colleges, but u r indirectly telling him to be prepared to waste some years of his life on "try again later." If u r 7feet, n u can't even bounce a ball, I guarantee you, u hv a very very good shot at an athletic scholarship. If u r just at the same height with most other kids in America, hmmmm. U can teach a poor 7feet basketballer how to play, u cannot teach a 6feet 2inch basketballer how to be tall. There r always high demand for heights. Dude's moniker is "PointGuard", I can guess how tall he is. To d OP, if your guts tell u to apply, then apply. but u deserve to know what u r up against. Duke's Point-Guards r NBA players "masking" as college students. U will need to train hard cos d kids u trying to beat hv been training hard since age 5 or 6. U will also need a coach, because if all u play is just 3v3, u haven't learned d game. Besides, I personally know a guy who got into a Tennessee University from 200level in a Nigerian University based on basketball ALONE, dude was a freak. That's another possibility. Loads of other guys r also drafted to go play highschool basketball, n then switch to college basketball. U can also try the basketball camps like Ejike's camp, u can get exposure to foreign coaches. Between me n bracelum, u can deduce d person who knows what he is saying. This is not some phantom motivational quote. You can always play professional basketball, but don't hang so tight onto this Duke's ticket. 4 Likes |

AgreatMan: Hahahahahhahahahha, you sound so funny. Trust me, you don't know about more about college basketball than me. First, your first sentence is off. Most people fail because they are scared of trying or are scared of taking risks. If you want to succeed, you should not be scared of failing. All you are trying to tell the poster here is that he is not good enough. You're trying to scare him away from achieving what he wants to achieve because you are scared he might not succeed. That is not wisdom, it is fear! And yes, luck plays a big role in everything we do. If you don't believe in luck, then it is your business. I'm not your regular religious freak and I believe very much in hardwork as a major way of achieving success. But I never rule out the luck factor as it has been instrumental to the success of many people (ask Tony Elumelu). You never can tell if Coach K at Duke needs an African for PR purposes or you never can tell if the poster is a very good player. Mr. Poster will never know if he is good enough for Duke basketball until he applies and either get rejected or accepted. So back to basketball. You must not be as tall as Tacko Fall (don't even bother to Google the name) before you are deemed good enough to play forward, centre or point guard. Tre Jones is Duke's main point guard (and is currently rated as the best in US colleges), but he is just 6'2''. Jordan Goldwire (aka J. Gold) often replaces Tre Jones on the court and he is also 6'2''. Alex O'Connell at Duke's team is even taller than both players but he hardly plays games even though he is a better three-point shooter than Tre and J.Gold. Another very good pointguard, Coby White, plays with UNC Tar Heels and he is slightly above 6'2'' (should be 6'4'' or 6'5'' based on my estimate). Coby is also a top guard and one of the top drafts for the NBA in 2019. So, what the hell are you saying? Mr.Poster does not need to be 7 feet tall to be able to get into the Duke (or any other) team as you stated. What you stated is just another lame excuse on why you think he is not good enough. Oga, no open your mouth talk college basketball with me cos me and you no be mate for that side. If you notice (I don't care if you don't), I don't comment on things I don't know about because I don't like misleading people. Mr. Poster, all I have to tell you is to shoot your shot. I don't know very much how athletics scholarship works but I know you have to send videos to your prospective coach. Brush up on your skills, make good videos (spend money to make quality ones) and get good recommendation from your coach. Then send in your application to any school you want to join. Have a Plan A, a Plan B and a Plan C. In case you just want to attend specific schools, then ride on with your Plan A but prepare to work 2X harder than you would normally do with contingency plans. Don't let anyone make you feel inferior. If they are scared of taking risks in their lives, it is their business. Best of luck to you - the ball is in your court. My advice to you is never be too scared to try your Plan A and never let anyone make you feel like you're not good enough. 4 Likes |

bracelum: Why r we even having this argument when he can actually try? To Op, prepare a video, cc all the coaches in Duke, n send it. What are d coaches will be looking for? 1. They want to see actual games footage not the weekend 3v3. 2. Ball handling 3. Ball Distribution n vison 4. They want to see d follow through on your shots. 5. If u have steals. 6. Transition from defense to attack n vice versa. 7. How well do u protect the ball when bouncing? It also has a lot to do with the fundamentals. Don't do the fancy. 8. Shooting accuracy especially under pressure. 9. Communication 10. Your ability to play right according to instructions is very important. But If u r 7 feet, u don't really need any of the above listed 10 points. Your most important quality at that height is your passion n drive. I have been down this route of trying to get noticed by coaches, I pulled out for reasons best known to me n my mother. The way a coach sees a game is 100% different from d way a fan sees the same game. 100%. Bracelum clearly knows a lot about basketball but d only tiny bit of problem is that he is a fan of d game, n fans don't recruit players. Good luck. 6 Likes |
