A Short Story On Tithing... by Chenzee(m): 9:49pm On Mar 31, 2019 |
A particular wealthy and highly influential man, decided to visit his village. On arrival, he was greeted and welcomed with joy and happiness. After settling down, he decided to take a tour of the village. While on tour, he noticed something that really pained him. He realized that most families were living in pronounced and chronic state of poverty. As the son of the soil who has gone out and has become wealthy, he thought of what and how to come in to help these people. He went back to the city and came back on a fateful day. He decided to help each family with substantial capital to begin different trades and businesses. By doing so, he had helped every family that had little or no means of livelihood to begin life on a better slate. They were all smiles, and a great and massive jubilation broke out in the village. He was happy to put smiles on the faces of those who once had just bleak chances of survival. Before he left for the city, he pleaded with them to just prove to him they loved what he had done for them, by just keeping only ten percent (10%) of their profits for him. Since there was no banks then, he will occasionally send someone to come and collect the moneys. They accepted without any form of hesitation. Some of the villagers even suggested he makes them swear an oath. He declined and said he trusted everyone. The wealthy man went back relieved. In no time their businesses boomed. The villagers gave their 10% promptly. But with time, they started coming up with frivolous and flimsy excuses as to why they won't be able to pay. Some would say " after all, he has enough money, what will he do with this little amount". Some will deliberately forget. Some will be too busy to remember. Some will use it to invest in other businesses etc. It got to a very annoying level, that only 1 percent (1%) of the villagers gave their 10%. The rich man decided to come to the village himself, but just a few villagers took note of him. They totally forgot their initial sorry states before he came and made them who they now are. He didn't do anything to them, rather he added to those who gave theirs and even made them more prosperous. He later went back dejected and regretfully bitter. Most of us skillfully carve out excuses for not giving our tithes. Were you to be the rich man, what would have been your reaction? God is not poor, He is not selfish. He just wants to test our obedience. You asked for a job, He gave you. You were born into a rich family, if your parents were not once poor, then some one in your lineage was. How much do you obey His teachings. You don't have a good paying job, obey Him it's just 10%. Note: We don't pay tithes, we give tithes. |
