Morning folks,i have a question that has been bothering me
How does North Carolina A&T University fund her Admitted Masters students?I have sent countless mail concerning Funding to my program Grad cord, all to no avail.

PS:I have fears going to the embassy with an I20 with no funding
They don’t fund masters students until when they report to school.

Fresh air at last, there is hope!!

I was thinking historically black Universities are very generous when it comes to funding
That they dish out funding while giving out admission

Neva knew reverse was the case.

I can understand, bro. I'm in the same shoe with Wichita State University after several emails and no response, I later got through to the Graduate Coordinator through a good samaritan at the Grad Sch. Maybe you could try that option too.

Tried that means,it didn't work

lols. shocked shocked shocked You don talk am finish. They get maad connect!

Do you know professor Pius Adesanmi, who died recently in the Ethiopia air crash , Once upon a time, Pius Adesanmi invited his mum, Mama Adesanmi to come visit him in Canada. That was not to be because she was denied a visa to go visit her son.

Pius and Mama were sad, however that didn’t deterred Mama from reapplying for the visa after a six months waiting period. Again she was denied!

Mama reapplied a third time for a visa to Canada and was denied. She then told Pius that she will visit him in Canada on one condition : “If the Canadian high commission comes to her house at Ilorin and stamp her passport with the visa.” Mama was simply saying she is done with the effort of obtaining a visa to Canada after three denials.

And it came to pass, that the Canada Department of Foreign Affairs invited Pius as a guest speaker for an event. Trust Pius not to waste an opportunity to vent when one presents itself. He reluctantly accepted the speaking engagement. After his lecture the Oga at the top in charge of all High Commissioners went to Pius to give him kudos for a job well done. During the tete-a-tete, Pius told the Oga that he is unable to understand why his mother was denied visa to come and visit him.

Three days after the event in Toronto, a dark, heavily tinted SUV with a diplomatic plate number pulled up in front of Mama Adesanmi’s house at Ilorin. The Canadian High Commissioner sent his aides who drove all the way from Lagos to Ilorin to go and stamp Mama Adesanmi’s passport with a visa to Canada in her living room, with a letter of apology personally signed by the High Commissioner.

That was how Mama’s prophesy came to pass and the people who denied her visa three times, brought the visa to her house, even when she didn’t apply for a visa.

As Chinua Achebe puts it, “If a child washes his hands he could eat with kings." Pius was cool like that!

People do get Visa with no funding ............ If you can afford it and can show the VO a bank statement with you then its ok. Just prepare well, be confident and hope for the best . Some people with funding still get rejected. This thing sometimes is luck

Absolutely agree with you regarding his profile for MBA-level jobs. I stumbled on his post earlier this week- his case is an edge case and is not representative of the final outcomes for Stanford MBAs in his class. Though he seems to have "significant" work experience, he only has 2 years of work experience post his MEng degree and pre-Stanford which is what counts for recruiters.

There are a ton of opportunities for MBA graduates in the US, especially those who attend top-notch programs but one still needs to put in the hardwork to land a job offer after graduation. These programs give access to an unparalleled network which can open up doors to roles at fortune 100 companies, Big Tech, Strategy Consulting or Investment Banking. However, pre-MBA experience matters and the stronger the better.

I agree with having a strategy/plan not just for getting into the US but also for leveraging opportunities out there. Truth be told, there are multiple paths that can get one to his/her desired career goal. But no path is the "right" path and every individual's situation is different. The most important thing is to set your eyes on the goal, work hard and take advantage of opportunities as they come.

You're right!

Also, his pre-MBA job was "Independent Consulting" and there is hardly a way companies can evaluate the quality of that job.

When you are competing with your classmates that worked at McKinsey, Goldman Sachs and Google for the same on-campus recruiting job and your background shows "Independent Consulting", your chances beating those people to those jobs is very slim

University of South Pacific, McGeorge school of law for LLM. Am coming back no doubt but I sent the corporate account of my company to the school for preparation of I-20 but I intend to go to the embassy now with the personal statement of my employer who has agreed to give me. My I-20 states my employer so I assume the embassy will just go with the personal account of my employer.

I will really appreciate further insight.

You have to convince the VO that your company is retaining you after the degree

Hey bracelum, I'm not seeing your point.

1. I do not understand how you came to the conclusion that I am "anxious" and "justifying complacency". My message was for prospective students to "Make sure they have a strategy" so i do not understand where "anxiety" and "complacency" come from.

2. Average compensation of >$200K after degree does not change the fact that one would have to work their ass off to land a job

3. No one said anything about using a U.S. MBA in the Canadian labor market. The point I was trying to make was to highlight the option of using an "unconventional" route to getting a US MBA. A candidate may choose to immigrate to Canada, and then go do their MBA in the US for whatever it is that they want to use the degree for. It gives them a $$ advantage compared to an applicant from Nigeria where monthly take-home is $500 - $1,000. They also have more opportunities open to them because if the US job market fails them, they could always go back to Canada.

I really pray u will get it.

I checked your profile to see if there is any "red light" but I found none. U hv d assistantship, u first class CGPA. I can read through d emotion that u use to craft your posts, n i know u really want this Visa n I wish u d best.

1. Try n write down d usual questions d VO will ask n prepare a response for it. Post it here, people in d house will help u too. The most basic questions might catch us unawares.

2. Know d name of your supervisor. Know a few courses u will be taking. Know the research area u want to do.

3. Don't be too confident on that day. You are negotiating for a Visa, u r not demanding for it.

Also, try and let them know stylishly that u r first class material or that u graduated top of your department.

On a side note, I checked ur last 32 posts. 30 of those posts have the word "pls." cheesy cheesy

Stop begging everybody biko grin

I really wish u good luck.

I just sent you a mail pls... Kindly respond as I need some clarification from you!

LordSir1:
Good day, I’ve learnt so much here and I believe the gurus here will be able to help me again.

I applied for Ms Electrical Engineering at
texas tech(still under processing)
university of texas San Antonio(accepted)
Lamar University(accepted)
university of texas Tyler(accepted)

1) I am about to strt my I-20 and visa process using Lamar(I got an out-of-state tuition waiver),
I’m still hoping to get this waiver from the other schools. My question is if i strt the process using Lamar University can I still go to another university after I hv gotten the visa. If so please how?

2) Now I have options I find myself in a tight place, I might have be overthinking how to place them in order of rank, (mostly based on employability after graduation). Please those in texas how does ut Tyler, utsa and lamar university compare to each other. If (when smiley ) I get into texas tech this would be an easier decision.

I might have been too modest in my school selection or maybe it was just right.

Who ask questions no dey loss. Please I’ll greatly appreciate all contributions. Fall 2019 we move!

Lolz. He didn't mean a physical receipt. All he wants to see is where the school is listed among your GRE "school recipients".

I think that should be enough

Sarcasticmofo:
hello, thanks for the responses so far.

First of all the remaining cost of living is about $8K and it's me and my guy that both got the full tuition Scholarship and we're planning to stay alone in one room apartment for this first year which costs $500 per month...

The work study program of the school is $9.50 per hour for a maximum of 20 hours per week and that is $190 per week and $760 per month. Then for two of us that is $1520 per month. Neglecting alot of hours we'd have to work in Summer and still going by normal 20hours, that is $18240 for both of us at least for a year. Our rent for a year is $6000 and feeding let's say $5000 combined that's leaving us with $7240.

So the loan I wanted to take was about $2000 each for both of us, so that we can use it for small feeding, on ground transport and cover our settling there. Once we settle there and start work study. We would definitely be fine... Not to mention outside scholarships and grants.

I also don't have any relative in the US. I am also in STEM

Hey,

First of all, regarding on campus jobs, one plus one does not always equals two. That you are eligible to work 20 weekly hours on campus doesn't mean you will automatically get a job on campus upon resumption. You might even get one and you will be lucky to do 11 weekly hours. Am about to complete my second semester and am still seeking my first on campus job.

Secondly, depending on the location of your school it might be difficult to see an apartment where you and someone will share a room as most times you might be living with other flatmates that won't allow such. You might see a studio apartment that will be above your budget and the owners might not allow more than one person. Reality sometimes changes when you become physically present.

Outside scholarships and grants won't just fall on your lap either.

All this dollars calculations that you did varies as some weeks you might work less hours and some weeks you might work more. Nothing is constant in this country

It's best to have a very very good financial plan before you make your move and don't just settle on speculations and heresay.

regards.

If you place an order for your GRE score to be reported to a school you will receive the order in your e-mail.Thats what is meant by receipt.
Apparently, you use an e-mail you have an access to.
