How would you rate the 2012 BMW x6...is it OK to buy? How easy is it to maintain? |
Re: BMW Owners' Forum by alphaNomega: 4:49pm On Feb 05, 2019 |
mrvitalis: Only use Synthetic Oil for your car and make sure your not purchasing an accidented x6. The ones with N55 engines (i6) are your best option. Verify if the car was produced from 2009 and you will likely get this enigine. The models with the older N54 engines (i6) have challenges with their High Pressure Fuel Pump that makes the car feel sluggish while driving. Apart from that I can't recall any other serious issue with it. The N63 engines (v8) will issues with the timing chain if you abuse it with poor quality oil, but it gives you decent power if that's your thing. Get your vehicle history and READ THE OWNER'S MANUAL after purchase. These BMWs are nothing like other cars Have a nice day. 1 Like |

BMW owners BEWARE of spontaneous combustion, even if your beloved Bimmer is PARKED, and with the engine OFF. https://www.yahoo.com/gma/mysterious-bmw-fires-continue-calls-investigation-grow-102004136--abc-news-topstories.html This news story describes NUMEROUS BMW cars suddenly catching fire, and in multiple cases, setting residential homes ablaze. If you own a BMW, this deadly factory defect could result in the fire loss of your car, or even of your entire house. You have been warned. BMW now stands for "Burning Motorcar Whenever." 2 Likes |

Please I want to know which oil is suitable to service a BMW E39, with M52 engine. Also the best ATF to use just incase I may need to change the transmission oil. Thanks |
Re: BMW Owners' Forum by alphaNomega: 8:57am On Feb 19, 2019 |
Coolexty: Castrol 5w30 Total 5w40 Forte oil Synth 5w40 For transmission oil, you'll use German Adler. Quite pricy, but worth it. Make sure you REPLACE your transmission filter too |
Re: BMW Owners' Forum by unmask: 11:47am On Feb 19, 2019 |
Where can I get original castrol edge 5w-30..... I have combed everywhere and I can't find. I have a 2012 x6 35i.....and I feel this vibration in my front wheel when I turn at low speed.....comes up 70% of the time.....then when I brake to complete stop, there is this harsh sound or feeling like metal on metal....feels like the car jerks when it gets to a complete stop. Been to coscharis and I was given a list that involves changing almost all the front suspension system. But I don't believe that should be. Anybody that has experienced such or knows what will likely be the problem, let me know please. Thank you |

Coolexty: Did you find out about the history of maintenance from the previous owner? What kind of engine oil was he using on the E39 before it changed ownership? |

Good day my gurus in the house. I need your help on bmw e46. I saw it on olx and I like the car. A brother of mine now said that if the battery is not in front, the car is not good but the ones that have their battery at back do have electrical fault every now and then. I need your expert opinion cos this is the first time i am thinking of buying a BMW. Thanks for your quick response. |
Re: BMW Owners' Forum by uboma(m): 5:39pm On Feb 21, 2019 |
andykay: Your advice from your brother is faulty. I own a E46, it's been 5 years since I got it, it has never failed me or left me stranded on the road. Make sure not to buy an abused E46.... 2 Likes |

Please all Bimmers fan...What's reliability of these BMW cars and how economical are they when it comes to fuel. Most of the BMW cars I know, have seen, read about are actually from 3.0l to 4.0l upwards...Does this mean if a Corolla of 1.8l uses 2k fuel, a Bimmer of 4.0l would use 4kplus fuel? |
Re: BMW Owners' Forum by VolvoS60(m): 8:44pm On Mar 30, 2019 |
andykay: ^^^ With his theory, your brother may be on to something - maybe though not quite in the way he intended. BMW, VW Porsche etc. mainstreamed the German design trend of placing batteries in the passenger compartment - in the cargo area or under the driver's seat. It is a controversial practice - as shown in the sad, unresolved death of Latifa Lincoln and her 3 year old daughter from hydrogen sulphide poisoning, with a faulty car battery being the suspected cause of death in that case. Electrical faults may be the least of one's problems when it comes to this strange practice of putting car batteries in the passenger cabin. Progress or two steps backwards? |

unmask: I think you should search other popular BMW forums for a solution. The x6 has a 4 wheel drive system and it is possible one of your front shafts is damaged. I'm not a magician, just trying to figure out the problem with what you've shared. |
