let me tell you one thing bro. What seperates you from others is taking the plunge when others fear for their life. You have been earning 26k for a year, ask yourself are you progressing or are you stagnant? Since you started the job, how many ICT training have you embarked upon? You seem so comfortable and very much afraid to take risk. Years from now you would be in regret and bitterness when your mates overtake you, will you take responsibilities or would you look for whom to blame for your shortcomings?

Let me add a Biblical perspective. The Red Sea you are looking at will give way when you step into the waters (Psalm 114:3). So Bro, Go Forward (Exodus 14:15)

Take the DSA job, I know that Stanbic pays commission apart from salaries to DSA. Also, Stanbic is a multinational not a Nigerian bank, so their work culture is very different.
Some DSA’s commission can be times 4 of their salaries if they are smart, so do not stay put out of fear.

Taking this job is not just about the salary you will earn, but also about the exposure and people you will meet if you’re a determined person. Never undermine what networking properly can do for you.

I advise that you take this sales job, and work your way towards sales jobs in the FMCGs.
Their sales jobs are better, and the package amazing, so see this as a stepping stone.

I wish you luck.

I graduated in the year 2015 and did my NYSC in the year 2016 to 2017. Ever since, getting a job has been something else. Well, last year I took up a teaching job in a private school and the salary is around 26 thousand naira. I have been on it for a year now. I hardly have time for my self considering the number of classes and periods.

I recently got a job with Stanbic bank as a Direct sales agent (marketing) with a salary of about 50 thousand.
I am afraid of taking up the offer because of all these bank targets and how to meet up with the target. I am afraid let me not lose the job I have now and take up this offer and can't meet up with the target.

Pls those that have done this DSA job and others can do well to advise me and give me first hand experience and way of meeting target.
Thanks.

Take the bank job, there will always be another school looking for teachers Incase the bank job does not workout

I know people who started as dsa in Stanbic and are now full time staffs.

There is growth in stanbic if you are hardworking. I also know someone who started as a cleaner in the bank and now an assistant manager.

He upgraded himself and applied for teller from been a cleaner and grew to the grade of an assistant manager. Stanbic is a nice place to work in. It's not like other Nigerian banks.

You need to consider/ compare some factors:-

1. The distance of the bank branch to your house.
2. Do you really like marketing.? If No don't bother.
3. Do you have friends or relatives who will be willing to open accounts and give you deposits?

As the Nigerian banking space is already saturated, marketing their products is not easy o.

Think am well.

The information you gave about yourself is incomplete to advise you approximately. For instance, what's your discipline and your passion?

Majority of the pieces of advice I have seen here are based on salary; which definitely is not suitable for making sensitive decisions like this.

However, based on the information given, don't leave certainty to uncertainty. Presently, you're imparting lives and definitely your life will also be imparted. Banking, if not your passion, is a dream killer. I'm talking to you from a rich experience.

Please, develop yourself along your passion and something bigger will come in the line of your passion.

On the sideline, about risk taking, ensure it's a calculated one; where all the risks are noted and their possible mitigants then costs for the unmitigated.

Regards!

Firstly, I'm a DSA with a bank and right now I'm considering resignation. Let me explain your job role to you in case you don't know. As a DSA you are a foot soldier and your core duty is to achieve a target of account opening and other bank solution which include cards and other bank solution. You may also be given SME target. Not meeting it is not a problem in your first 2 month. But subsequently it becomes an issue when you consistently fail to meet those target. Remember you are to work under every circumstance so under the Sun in the afternoon you must work. You will also have deposit target, for me it is 1.4million naira monthly but I've never even gone pass 300k average balance. You are also to book loan and manage customer. One of the fear factor is that you can't go pass 50k earning as bank always have graduate trainee and your chance of getting converted to a full staff is very slim. Although you can also converted since some people have trend that part before and are in a better position today.

Conclusion
I don't regret taking a DSA job role with my bank. In fact the experience is worth it. But I think the effort I put into my target if channeled into my own business, I will be a better person.

Before you choose weigh your options well, research your job, meet those who are currently working and ask about there experience( you can ask anonymously) see whether you can cope.

Don't make a decision because you felt your mate are more successful than you. Most of them won't tell you what they are going through.

Well said bro. I was a DSA with Access Bank, pay was 40k. They promised retaining us after appraisal, but we were dumped like garbages, all of us. I surpassed my target, but was still dumped.

I hated the job, I hated everything about it because we were treated as trash, other bankers treat you like slaves, oga will always be shouting at you as if meeting target is easy. In fact, I hated the job with passion and have also developed hatred for banking jobs in general. I don't apply for Banking jobs anymore. The bitter truth is, no banker, I repeat, no banker, including the Managers love their jobs. Everyone is jus tired and frustrated in that building.

. My friend though Nigeria is tough for a graduate but that is not a reason for you to be afraid of loosing 26k Job that zaps all your energy and time. Your fear is unrealistic. If you continue to have this kind of fear, you will never achieve much in life. Take the bull by the horn, get the marketing job, kill your fear of walking up to strangers and selling anything to them.,At a start you will all be getting rejection front and back but you have to kill your fear of rejection and failure. Even if Bank marketing fails you, would have build enough confidence to take up any marketing job or marketing your own business.
Quit that 26k teaching job now except you have extreme passion for teaching because passion really matters most in most things you do in life.
Free yourself of fear and start thinking of how to work yourself to financial freedom.

Bro, look at yourself earning 50k, like the experienced teachers in that school in the next 11 years and make a decision now.
You're comfortable in that school now because you have no responsibility. I have been in a private school environment for awhile, tough doing some other ICT stuff to boast earnings, I can tell you that teaching in a private school is not a good option for a man. As a graduate, instead of taking up a teaching job with 30 to 40k, go and learn a hand work, with your education you will surely make a difference. Take the risk, do other things too, keep on moving bro. God will surely help you.
God bless you thousand times. I don’t know why these guys can’t drop their certificate, learn a skill and then mix the certificate with the skill and see wonders.

Do you mean that frustration job called teaching? You will never progress o. You will never have time for yourself kos you'll be working from 7am -5pm every working day. No time to apply for jobs, trainings and even your family but they will be using you 24/7. The school owners usually make sure that they occupy their staff that most of them don't even have the chance of applying for other openings. 15 years you'll be there with little or no salary increment. Oga please don't praise teaching work especially private schools. Na modern day slavery. Just go and learn handwork. It's better o
