I have an uncle who's married to an ibo woman from imo state (mbaise) they live in adamawa state and are both now in their 70s and have been married for over 40 years now. They met in lagos and have been together al through my uncle's working and relocating years and now she's still with him back at his home state(adamawa) I don't think all ibos are like what you think they are

I personally don't mind intertribal marriages, but I feel that the older generation do mind.most parents telling their children to marry from the same tribe.its really sad and shouldn't be.

Me that can speak haUSA more than my native language yoruba, what's my own with choosing the tribe to marry, as far as there is love and understanding from both parties involved, I'm good, thank God my family has same mindset.

Urs is good, u can speak the language. If I marry hausa, I will be lost because I don't understand their language.

Funny thing is I never dated anyone from my tribe before and their families never had any reservations concerning where I'm from.

Pray to find love in your tribe then... If not pleasing others and neglecting yourself never ends well.

So you're saying the reason you can't do it is just because of your parents?

Why is it so hard for a lot of you to use the proper words in a sentence? The word LEAVE means to leave something.. for example, I"m going to LEAVE my marriage. The word LIVE means to be alive, to exist for example. I LIVE a good life. Stop switching the words and meaning for goodness sake. undecided Now, as far as the topic is concerned, why do your parents condemn inter-tribal marriages but condone interracial marriages?

Inter tribal is a no no ...majority fail, those that don't fail end up having confused kids that can't either speak their native language or identify with their fathers tribe

They would say my mum is Igbo And my dad is Yoruba ..such a confusion

Run from it. My humble advice from experience.
true

That is the most biggest mistake most of those that are into it ....just manage the marriage so that people wouldn't say did I not warn you

Marry from the East, and see them try to wisely drain u and exclude ur family. All the problem of her siblings u must solve, but she'll never ask u of ur own siblings of if u have a plan for them. They come to ur house and make it an Igbo affair, speaking their language to each other while u as the man become the stranger. The list is endless.
that is awesome and the kids started speaking Igbo ....

I'm a human of the nigerian tribe.. Honestly i don't care about identifying with any tribe or "clan". things like that only becomes important when you're seeking political office which I'm not interested in.

Your moniker says it all, so I aren't surprise. Only 10% of people from your region are liberal with inter tribal marriage.

Don't say majority fails, because that isn't true, marriage that is destined to fail even if it's from your clan will fail. We Nigeria really needs to clear of this tribal and region mentality.
I was ashamed of myself a certain day when I asked an American, during a flight take of what region is she from. She replied am an American and that comes first, and ended with I know it's a common practice in Nigeria.

We once had that mentality few years back, a cousin wanted marrying from the south south region cos he found love there . We never bought the idea, advice him to come back to the Belt region most preferably home and most particularly or clan, yes he obeyed mum and siblings advice, usually assumed ur family will never wish u bad.
He got married to a lady from his clan , fast forward to today after 7yrs he is officially divorced and he was really a shadow of himself, thank God for his strong will. His family had to go look for the south south lady apologies to her, thank God she isn't marry then. Mow they are officially married. Now I can see joy radiate from his soul.. From that experience everybody finalised respect a child wish.

Speak for yourself
Decide for yourself
Don't talk another tribe down
No tribe is perfect, not even yours
There are hundreds of guys who are not Igbos yet married to Igbo ladies, how many of them have you met? You have probably seen less than five marriages of such and you think its enough for you to come out and degrade the igbos
Change your mentality, these things are more of individual differences than tribe
