Is the ranger battalion and 72msf open for other arms of service??

Nigerian Army only IMHO.
It's like asking if SBS is open to non-sailors.

The only joint service Special Forces groups we have I know of are AFSF and MNJTF.

The rest are local operations encompassing tri-service personnel and other sister services (Police, NSCDC etc)

NAF AIRCRAFT DESTROYS VEHICLES, NEUTRALIZES TERRORISTS AT SUSPECTED WORKSHOP IN SAMBISA FOREST

The Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE has destroyed some vehicles and neutralized some Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) at a suspected vehicle workshop in Sambisa Forest, Borno State. The operation was conducted yesterday, 24 April 2019, after a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform on a routine mission observed significant activities as well as some serviceable vehicles hidden under some trees at a previously abandoned BHT vehicle workshop. Accordingly, the ATF scrambled an Alpha Jet to attack the location. Overhead the target area, some of the BHT fighters were seen attempting to flee the location but were taken out by the Alpha Jet’s successful strikes, which also caused the destruction of 2 vehicles and other equipment at the workshop.

The NAF, operating in concert with surface forces, will sustain its operations to completely degrade the terrorists in the Northeast.

https://www.defenceweb.co.za/aerospace/aerospace-aerospace/nigerian-super-tucanos-to-be-based-at-kainji/?utm_source=SocialAutoPoster&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=Twitter

Nigeria will base its 12 new Super Tucano light attack/trainer aircraft at Kainji Air Base in the west of the country.

This emerged from a notice posted on the US Federal Business Opportunities (FBO) website on 18 April, which said the announcement was part of a market research effort to gather information for planning purposes related to construction projects.

US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) USACE Europe District intends to issue one or more solicitations to obtain construction services for the A-29 Programme Beddown at Kainji Airbase in Nigeria, Africa. These construction projects will be 100% Design-Bid-Build and full designs will be posted with the solicitations, the FBO notice read. The solicitation(s) will be announced around January 2020.

The US Government intends to award up to three separate construction contracts to accomplish the projects.

“At this time the anticipated construction magnitude for all three projects combined is between $25,000,000 and $100,000,000,” the FBO stated.

The proposed construction consists of infrastructure and facilities to support the A-29 aircraft and munitions at Kainji Air Base. The construction of these required facilities includes three separate packages of deliverables. This includes the conversion of an existing runway hammerhead into a temporary arm/de-arm location; a complete retrofitting of an auxiliary parking apron to a tie-down and grounding area; providing a temporary structure to house aircraft; providing a temporary structure for secure storage; construction of a new chain link perimeter fence with a minimum length of approximately 12 km; construction of a munitions storage area (MSA) consisting of earth cover magazines, security, observation tower, and power; construction of a permanent arm/de-arm pad; and improvements to the two base entry control points.

Other work to be done covers renovations to existing aircraft hangars, air traffic control infrastructure, and parking apron.

Kainji Air Base is located in the western state of Niger at the southern end of Kainji Lake and is currently the home of the Nigerian Air Force’s 407 Air Combat Training Group.

On 28 November 2018 the United States Department of Defence placed the $329 million contract with Sierra Nevada Corporation to manufacture the NAF’s 12 Super Tucano. The contract is worth $329 076 750 for the aircraft, although the total not-to-exceed amount is approved at $344 727 439 and is to include Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) systems for six of the aircraft. These systems will be funded soon after the initial contract award.

The Department of Defence said that work is expected to be completed in May 2024.

This is a good product and ideal for Nigeria's situation. In fact this will be the most advanced avionics suite the Nigerian Pilots will be exposed to ever and also a suitable platform to train into 4+Generation fighters. This plane has no competitor currently in the market in terms of cost /benefit analysis. I think it costs some $500 per hour to operate with the well sought after Pratt & Whitney engines. And those other component of the contract covering civil engineering aspects on the base will teach Nigerians International standards in securing and storing Planes & ordnance in modern times. But Nigeria will come under Software update control from the US as a Political tool. That's the down side to buying US weapon platforms. You can't deploy them outside of contractual agreed theaters.

Haha Super TUCANO...What a shame. $600 million for 12 super TUCANO. Nigeria has to be an enigma of a country. I'm sure even the company Embrae cannot believe their luck. THE NIGERIAN government will go down as the most incompetent in human history, no rivalry to that title. Recent events shows down Boko Haram seems to be a step ahead of the Nigerian armed forces. They now have anti-aircraft guns, some are MANPADS. Our $32 million brand new Mi-35M helicopter that was shut down is testament to the fact these guys are getting serious weapons from our neighbours.

Not long ago a personal aid to Idris derby was caught by border guards trying to smuggle 18 SA-7 missiles to Borno for Boko Haram. Emphasis on the number EIGHTEEN. Nigeria's entire strike fleet is not up to 18. They can wipe out our entire Air Force with weapons to spare. Yet some mad man in the defense establishment figures splashing half a billion dollars on 12 crop dusters will be a game changer. They will actually strap someone's child into a slow aircraft with no protection and ejector seat into an environment now bristling with anti-aircraft system. Over $26 billion spent between 2013 and 2019 and the we have been able to come up with is 12 Crops dusters that will not be delivered until 2022 if we are lucky. Meanwhile the threat to the nation's territorial integrity is increasing by the week.

God help us.

The U.S recently cancelled an order for 20 Super TUCANO from Brazil in a contract worth $322 million after determining it will not survive in a AAG environment. A well aimed rifle can bring down this propeller driven light skinned aircraft. To think we have paid $622 million for 12 of this crap is heart breaking. $600 million will transform the NAF into a 21st century fighting force withwthal multi role strike aircraft. By the time this aircraft is delivered the enemy will be primed and ready.

Jack Poroshenko can you see the Nigerian Air Force has gone stark raving MAD? We have all this money and for 12 years we have been using trainer aircraft for strike and interdiction mission. Now the NAF is finally willing to spend hard currency on new platforms yet they are still buying trainer aircraft with strike capability. If this is not madness then I don't know what is. When you add the cost of infrastructure almost a $1 BILLION would have been spent in 12 aircraft that can be brought down with a well aimed rifle. Heck we can buy a lot of F-35 stealth fighters with a billion dollars.

There are some who say smart weapons will allow it hit targets from standoff distances. So we are going to waste guided strike weapons the cheapest of which cost $300,000 on Boko Haram Toyota Hillis trucks that cost less than $5,000. What's worse, we might have to wait until 2025 or even 2030 to have this crap system ready for combat. Nigeria will not exist by then.

According to La Tribune Egypt chose to purchase Leonardo AW-149 Helicopters instead of NH-90 Marine Helios to serve on the Mistral LHDs

Egypt seems to be turning it’s back on the French arms sales despite the great offers, but likely there’re poltical/Finnicial obstacles...
